  • Going to a movie, what do to about popcorn?

We are going to see the Terminator movie next week, I am trying to plan now as to what we can eat ... since popcorn and snowcaps are off the menu! We were thinking of sneaking in a bag of homemade jerky and buying bottled water. Would that be ideal? What do you do?

I sneak in a small bag of macadamia nuts. However, they aren't an induction-approved food.

How about some cheese crackers, pork rinds, salami and olives just to name a few.

Yes, I agree Sherri lol.. you took some of those ideas right outta my finger tips..

        Cheese
        Celery
        Pork Rinds
Fried Radishes (sliced and fried + a little salt when done = very tiny chips) lol
Pepperoni (just watch for hidden ingredients and carb count)

There's a couple more ideas that are induction friendly.. and take water!!

I hope you enjoy the movie.

Ohh wait.. I have another good idea!!!

I just finished eating this.. so yeah.. it would work and man it's so good!!

Buy a couple Chayote's for yourself.. cut them up like you would an apple that you're about to fry in butter or oil.. then sprinkle Cinnamon all over them and then brown sugar sweetener.. fry them for 20 - 25 minutes or until they are soft enough for your liking. It tastes very much like Apple Crisp and could be your finger food during the movie.

Who says you need to eat anything at the movies? I don't mean to stick a fly in your flax here, but one of the keys for me the past 60 days was breaking the presumption that certain events (sports, movies) have to have a food component. I understand you want to go to the movies prepared, and that's cool, but when someone here suggested to me that I might want to think about trying to divorce "activities" from "food," I really took it to heart and thought hard about the bad habits I was in.

Also, if you're following Atkins correctly (and it's a 7pm movie), you shouldn't be hungry anyway.

Oh, and regarding the homemade jerky, I'm intrigued. How do you make that?

We took beef and made it into strips. Put it in a marinade of liquid smoke, garlic powder and a couple shakes of Kroger hot sauce. When its done in the marinade, DH is sticking them in the dehydrator until they are done.

The liquid smoke has hidden sugar, but we didn't know that at the time that he put it all together this morning, but thanks to some very helpful people, we know what more to look for. Now we have $20+ dollars worth of SUGAR jerky that we are not throwing out. The next time around he know what to look for. The hot sauce has nothing bad!

As for not eating at the movies, with everything that we are trying to tackle with all of this stuff, since its so much different then anything we have ever done, at this point we really need some sort of normality.

Also, at this point I have not achieved Ketosis, due to the fact that every day I've been eating hidden sugar and carbs in the MEATS I've been eating, so I am still constantly starving. Hubby however is doing much better then I am and isn't all that hungry anymore. He is down another couple inches. I have not measured again, but imagine I am up more.

I look forward to Ketosis... I would love to not be hungry anymore. I did notice that I was eating a little less, but now for the last 2 days I have an appetite back that I can't control. I am trying so hard, I really am, but it seems that everything I do backfires on me. At any rate, thanks everyone for the suggestions!

I try to stay away from the movies... popcorn with butter is a big trigger for me to binge... However, there are a couple of movies that we will probably see in the next year and I will just have diet soda when I go and sip it through the whole movie. (What I did when we saw Star Trek last week)

It's hard when everyone around you is munching and crunching, but I tell myself that I'm not missing out on anything... that I've already had my allotment of snacks to last me the rest of my life...

Thanks for the ideas/recipes. I might look into a dehydrator myself. Why wouldn't you give away/throw out the induction-unfriendly jerky? Either way you're not getting the $20 back.

Hey CLG - some very inventive and creative ideas there!
When you are at the right rung, sometimes I like to eat cashews or pistachios at the cinema (if I fancy a challenge in the dark!). If it were more socially acceptable and less gross, I would eat a whole jar of small silverskin onions, but that would be wrong....

Well done on your work so far - what meats are you eating that contain sugar?? (Worried that I might be eating some as well...!)

Perhaps you can post a list of what you are eating daily, there are loads of seasoned guys here who are wonderful at identifying things that may be keeping you out of ketosis - for me, too many tomato based dishes and sugar-free sodas are a problem.

I'm sure you'll be in ketosis before long - keep eating the fats and perhaps try deli meats from roasted chicken/turkey etc as snacks?

Keep posting - I know it gets said a lot but it really, truly does help!

                        Fifth time's a charm...?

I went to the movie the other night. I wondered about taking my own Atkin's friendly snacks, but decided to do as Slapshot was getting at and just break the habit of thinking I gotta eat while watching a movie.

All went pretty well until the wife went for popcorn. Popcorn is one of my most favorite things to eat in this whole world.

Anyway.... when she comes back, she has to hand me the tub of popcorn in order to scoot past me to her seat. The damned thing is so big that even sitting on my lap it's stuck right in my face!

I managed to resist having any... but it sure made the rest of the movie difficult to sit through.

And when I got home, you can bet I had the munchies something bad. I ended up gorging on cheese and salami.

                            Forrest - good for you!

Having it literally sitting in your lap was a huge test. You passed with flying colors. A huge accomplishment.

I face similar difficulties with my son when he has ice cream or I make him pizza or mac and cheese. It's just brutal, particularly when I have to put the food against my lips to see if it's cool enough for him to eat. Now *that's* temptation...

If I eat properly at meal times, that is a high fat meal,I have no desire to eat snacks.Stay away from movies until you get appetite under control would be my suggestion. I eat to fuel up, not to satisfy urges. That is the only way I could get and stay lean.
