I face similar difficulties with my son when he has ice cream or I make him pizza or mac and cheese. It's just brutal, particularly when I have to put the food against my lips to see if it's cool enough for him to eat. Now *that's* temptation...
when someone has ice cream in my home I make my own.....same with pizza and mockafoni & cheese....I don't do without...I just make sure I plan ahead and make my version of everything

I managed to resist having any... but it sure made the rest of the movie difficult to sit through.

And when I got home, you can bet I had the munchies something bad. I ended up gorging on cheese and salami.

I take it your wife isn't Atkins friendly? It's too bad she didn't think before handing you the bucket of popcorn....maybe next time you can get up and let her pass so you don't get stuck holding it.

I tried that and it doesn't work for me, unfortunately. Making "mock" anything (except cauliflower mashed potatoes) just makes me want the real thing, particularly if it has splenda in it. Instead of going "without" I go with "instead." It's hard for me to complain about people eating pizza when I have buffalo wings and a nice steak in front of me.

I bought radishes for the first time in my life. About how long do I fry them? I know nothing about radishes. I don't want to eat them raw, so frying would be the way for me.

I'm going to side with the don't go and avoid teh temptation folks.

I actually stayed away from movies suring my weight loss. It's funny though movie popcorn always makes me feel sick after...but i crave it anyway LOL.

anyway, even now i rarely go to movies, i'd rather wait until they come out on dvd or hbo and save myself the $$. We maybe go once a year if that now. and we save a fortune.

                  Hi there,

I not only am doing Induction, but I have something called celiac disease as well. I tell them right upfront when I buy my tickets, that I have a food allergy/sensitivity and tell them I need to bring in x, y or z. Such as rinds, or lunch meat/cheese, and prior to atkins it was fruit. They can't prohibit you from it and if they give you a hard time, you ask for a manger. Places have to accomadate you.

I don't drink pop regularly (anymore - used to do 2 litres a day), not even the splenda-sweetened ones. I save diet pop for a 'treat' - like when I go to the movies or out for drinks, or to a party.

I LOVE pop - so allowing myself to have one really IS a treat, and I don't feel like I need popcorn-pizza-candy-chocolate-etc.

And yes, I mean ONE can.

Wait a second. Stop! You're selling yourself way too short. You're the same person who had money in hand, standing in line, and ready to get off your diet on a splurge at a fair. But, you saw the light, stepped out of line, and were a true champ! If you could do that (not sure I could have), you can go to the movies and not eat buttered popcorn. I *know* you can. So, for safety, you should definitely plan on bringing an induction-friendly snack with you, but the only point I wanted to make was that you should consider getting out of the habit of "planning" what to eat in certain environments, and instead planning on "what to have if I get hungry." My other point (and Forrest's) was that if you're doing induction properly, and have a good induction meal at 5pm, you won't/shouldn't be hungry during the movie...

Finally, if you're strong enough to come on here and be as open as you have been, you're strong enough to tackle the movies!

Thank you Slapshot, I am just not feeling very strong right now. But, I am trying to get back up on the horse and get moving! Today I've been watching more closely what I am eating, but I am starving. I don't get it, but I am trying to ignore it.

I am trying really hard! Right now, I won't be able to go to the movies and not feel like I don't need anything. I feel very weak right now. I do hope one day I can learn to not associate food with fun!

My question is: why do you feel you have to have something to eat during the movie? Are you planning to skip dinner and feel hungry? Or is it a compulsion to have something to keep you busy besides the movie?

I ask because I'm the same way, and the only way I can override my urges is to fully analyze them.

Because its just something that I enjoy, plain and simply. As for skipping dinner, no, but I am always hungry. Even after I eat a huge dinner, in a half hour, I am starving again!

Hmm. That sounds an alarm bell in my head. You should not be hungry on Atkins. The fat in this diet should be enough to satiate you. I know you posted your fitday menus, and they looked pretty good. Perhaps it's these remaining sugars in your foods that are keeping your insulin levels out of whack. The beauty of this diet is being satiated with a normal amount of food. Throw even the smallest number of "off-plan" carbs in there, and it all goes out the window.

Dissassociating our food intake from our social lives is very difficult. I'm still learning how to do it, so I feel your pain. That being said, what I sense from your situation is that your fear is worse than the reality. You're stressing too much about it. If you stay on plan, the rest kind of naturally falls into place. I know that's easy for me to say/write, because I'm not in your shoes but, like you, two months ago, I was afraid of going out to eat, having friends over, going to the movies, etc. Once the secret to this diet was unlocked (fat=fullness), I didn't feel so deprived.

Yes, that is a big part of what I feel... deprived. I hate that feeling, it makes me depressed. As pathetic as that is! lol

As for being hungry, I agree, BIG RED FLAG! I am eating tons of fat, but I am not satiated for long at all. I am trying to get all my water in, but it seems to make me hungrier. I really can't get much more then 64 oz right now (I am drinking all day long as it is), but I am trying to get more. I am trying to stop all the hidden sugars in my foods, I am also going to try and cut out my cheese intake as much as possible.

I really, really want to make this work!!! I NEED to make this work! I am just overly frustrated because I don't really understand things yet, I feel deprived, I am not losing, everything seems to backfire and above all else, I am SO hungry. It really makes for high frustration. Yes, I tend to over-analyze and make things more complicated then they are... its just who I am.
