    Re: rheumatoid arthritis and Atkins

My knees have gotten to feeling better over time and getting the weight off them. I'd say reducing my hunger has been a great advantage of this diet. I think it would have been harder to do the diet if I didn't really like meat though. I don't loose weight for a few weeks after induction usually. Then I suddenly loose some water weight I hold and drop 3 or more pounds in a day or two, kinda all at once. Any diet that will take one to two pounds off a week is a good workable diet. So if there is something else that works better for you and what you like eat, that's okay. But its really hard for me control my eating on other plans because I get so hungry. And even when I do limit my calories a lot weight still doesn't come off on other plans. But that's just how my body is. If I were you and having good control of my hunger, I'd think twice about giving up the diet this soon into it. I'd try to give at least a month to see if weight started to come off more regularly too.

My starting weight was 235 lbs and I'm trying to get to 130 lbs.

    1st mini goal: 145! met 12/09
    2nd mini goal: 140!
    3rd mini goal:135!
    4th mini goal: 130!

I drink coffee. I drink when I am thirsty. I am just a low carber. Not on Atkins at all!!! He has everything to do with my weightloss and nothing to do with it, depending on who you ask.

You can counteract acidity from meat by eating more alkaline foods, such as more veggies, Omega 3s and 6s, etc. Alot of processed foods, fried foods, and other common foods (orange juice) are also high in acid.

You can easily avoid red meat on Atkins, just make sure you get sufficient fat from other sources (butter, olive oil, etc.)

Alot of the studies I've read about a link between acidity and RA and other health conditions are sketchy. (Beware health articles on the Internet).

I'd check with your doctor about the increase in joint pain. I have found just the opposite since switching to low carb.
