In the end, five out of a box of six eggs had double yolks. That to me smacks of massive hormonal interference. I reported it to the supermarket and was pleased to see that that brand of eggs was taken off the shelves.

Can't wait to get my hens... it'll be after the holidays though as I still have to sort out a night area for them that is safe from foxes. They'll have loads of daytime space. I hope they'll get along with my goats!
That's weird about the double yokes.. I would have taken them back too.. yuk. lol
I'd love to have hens... ideally that'd be the way to go... sadly not sure my hubby would go for it. MEN! lol.

Understand hens only lay well for so long then they have to be replaced.
So if a all the chickens at an egg farm have stopped produccing high volume they are replaced with new hens who are just starting to lay.
the number of new hens will cause the number of double yolks to be high.
There are many kinds of egg abnormalities. No yolk eggs, full shell eggs within an egg, shell-less eggs, oblong eggs etc. But the nutritional value of the egg does not change caue there is 2 yolks. Their bodies are not perfect egg laying machines. my egg customers love and pay more for double yolks.

Interesting... but to get five doubles out of a box of six eggs???
Edited to add: Ok... I just saw your post about all new layers at a farm. Interesting. I still rather wonder though...at the time, I couldn't believe my eyes!

Wow! I have no idea if it's illegal where I am (Italy) too.
