i am starting to love this
i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!
note: i am breast-feeding, though my baby is nearly weaned, eating most solid food now. i am doing this diet with the knowledge, approval, and at the suggestion of my doctor and having done my homework. i will not discuss the matter in any of my posts. please don't bring it up. -
Re: i am starting to love this
1. Where did you get the hazelnut coffee from? To my dismay/surprise, Dunkin Donuts' flavored coffees have carbs in them (4-5, I think for a medium) even though the flavoring is "sugar free."
2. Did you use real whipped cream (i.e. heavy cream that was whipped?) or did you get it from a store/coffee shop? If the latter, it likely had sugar and/or other non-induction friendly ingredients.
3. Why did you feel you needed a "treat?"- M/37

Re: i am starting to love this
it was instant coffee from my own kitchen and i checked the label with real whipped heavy cream and splenda.
why do i need to justify a treat? itt was a long night and morning with a cranky teething baby and a tantrum prone 6 year old,and i wanted something hot and reviving and a good magazine for a 10 min vacation.i'm 25 years old, mom of two, ready to do this once and for all!

That's good about the instant coffee provided that it is induction-friendly.Originally posted by tweedledee View Postit was instant coffee from my own kitchen and i checked the label with real whipped heavy cream and splenda.

You don't need to justify anything here. I was just curious why you felt that a food/drink was some sort of "reward." I used to look at food as a reward, too. My success (thus far, knock on wood) on this WOE is due in part to treating food as a means to survive, not as a means to be happy. Using food/drink as a reward or "treat" as you say can be a dangerous thing and how/why we ended up here in the first place.- M/37

The ingredients are instant coffee, maltodextrin, caramel color, natural and artificial flavor, acesulfame potassium.Originally posted by tweedledee View Posti used tasters choice instant hazlenut coffee
Maltodextrin is a sugar.
Caramel color is also a sugar."Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

Re: i am starting to love this
However, just to put in a different perspective for philosophical discussion for the others reading the thread:
I think it is certainly possible for many of us to have a "treat" food and it being nothing more than something special once in a while. That doesn't mean she'll spiral to using food as her primary way of rewarding herself or supporting her self esteem or engage in emotional overeating.
Just as going out to buy yourself some shoes with the bonus money you earned as a "treat" for completing a project at work won't necessarily make you a shopaholic, either.
For some of us, we do need to think food as fuel, nothing more.
But many of us don't have to think that way in order to be successful in losing weight or maintaining a healthy weight.
Just throwing that out there for discusion...

I agree with you to a point....if "many of us" can use food as a reward/treat and be successful in losing or maintaining, then why are we fat/overweight enough to be on a weight loss diet in the first place? See, if we do have a healthy relationship with food---where we can eat a food without it interferring with our weight---, then the only reason for us to be overweight is due to a medical problem, not because we make poor food choices.
But is it possible for some people to have a "treat" food? It depends on how you define "treat". I define a "treat food" as something that I don't eat often because 1. the expense of that food, 2. the scarcity of that food and/or 3. the difficulty in preparation. So my treat foods include steammed blue crabs/lobsters (which are expensive and seasonal), artichokes (which are seasonal and relatively expensive), prime rib (which is expensive), smoked salmon (expensive), and a whole coconut (expensive, seasonal and physicially hard to prepare).~Megs~

To the OP, be careful with the cream....cream IS limited on Induction phase and squirts or dollops or splashes have the possibility of exceeding that limit.

the label said 0 carbs per serving, 0 sugars per serving. those sugars have a low glycemic index and are not metabolized like regular sugar. for the occasional coffee i'll be OK.Originally posted by Georgiana View PostThe ingredients are instant coffee, maltodextrin, caramel color, natural and artificial flavor, acesulfame potassium.

Re: i am starting to love this
All good points by everyone. The whole "treat/reward" thing was a real problem for me. I don't eat when I'm stressed, upset or nervous, believe it or not. I overeat/splurge/make bad choices when I've accomplished something, worked hard, made it through a hard week or work event, or won an award/contract/raise, etc. I figured that out one night while talking to my wife and I said, "I don't understand it. I'm happy, successful, love my job, work hard, etc., but I'm fat." Then and there I realized that food was a reward for me, particularly on the weekends.
Similar to megs, my "treats" rewards are less about gorging on food, and are more cooking stuff/gadgets or exercise stuff (such as my beloved Vibram Five Fingers KSO Treks). Given that I used to spend $30 a week on fast food, I'm still ahead budget-wise. I just don't use food of any sort as a reward. Too dangerous for me.- M/37

I'm curious to hear other's responses to this because Splenda contains maltodextrin, too, but is "allowed" in the form of three servings per day.Originally posted by tweedledee View Postthe label said 0 carbs per serving, 0 sugars per serving. those sugars have a low glycemic index and are not metabolized like regular sugar. for the occasional coffee i'll be OK.- M/37

Re: i am starting to love this
No worries. No debate. Just people sharing their opinions/thoughts. For many of us, when we hear someone new talking about food as a "treat" or "reward" our antennae go up because we've been there, done that. That's all. Nothing more is meant by it than trying to help you.Originally posted by tweedledee View Posti didn't mean to start a debate. i was just sayig that i'm enjoying the caloric freedom of the induction phase. thats all. sheesh
