I'm happy, successful, love my job, work hard, etc., but I'm fat." Then and there I realized that food was a reward for me, particularly on the weekends.

Similar to megs, my "treats" rewards are less about gorging on food, and are more cooking stuff/gadgets or exercise stuff (such as my beloved Vibram Five Fingers KSO Treks). Given that I used to spend $30 a week on fast food, I'm still ahead budget-wise. I just don't use food of any sort as a reward. Too dangerous for me.
And I hear that, and for you, that is true.

I just was trying to point out that because we are all individuals, using a special snack once in a while isn't necessarily a problem for all of us.

Are you measuring how much cream is in that squirt?

If the carbs are below 0.5 g per serving, they can be reported as 0.

those sugars have a low glycemic index and are not metabolized like regular sugar.
Maltodextrin actually has a GI higher than glucose.

Caramel color is not any better.

That's right. One would need to count this towards one's sweetener intake.

I would not have caramel color.

Agreed. Broad brushes rarely do any good. Everyone's different, especially when it comes to things such as food.

i may be wrong but only the packets have meltodextrn. the bags don't list is in the ingredients and thats what i used. also, according the the splenda company ( i was in contact on year to find out if it was kosher for passover) the industrial version sold to companies like land-o-lakes is pure sucralose with nothing else added.
Are you measuring how much cream is in that squirt?
          yes

what is your point? i am aware of what is in it, i don't have it often, i am within my 20 grams for the day. why are you dissecting it?

See, if we do have a healthy relationship with food---where we can eat a food without it interferring with our weight---, then the only reason for us to be overweight is due to a medical problem, not because we make poor food choices.
I think the reasons for each of us being overweight are complex - poor food choices, emotional eating, little to no exercise plan, poor portion control, medical problems, eating disorders and poor self image... this is why the Atkins plan is so great, because no matter what the real reasons are for each of us, he devised a plan that allows us the time to figure it out for ourselves, so we don't engage in that behvior in the future (the classic journey of "Ooh, nuts are a problem for me, better avoid 'em because I can't stop at 22" and "cheese stalls me" and so on...)

My point in this was that each of us has their own issues, and to imply that the someone wanted a "treat" as a reward for something automatically will be a bad thing for her isn't necessarily true for all of us.

But is it possible for some people to have a "treat" food? It depends on how you define "treat". I define a "treat food" as something that I don't eat often because 1. the expense of that food, 2. the scarcity of that food and/or 3. the difficulty in preparation. So my treat foods include steammed blue crabs/lobsters (which are expensive and seasonal), artichokes (which are seasonal and relatively expensive), prime rib (which is expensive), smoked salmon (expensive), and a whole coconut (expensive, seasonal and physicially hard to prepare).
I'll see your crabs and lobsters and raise you some grilled shrimp and a bit of scallops - a treat for the same reason!

By the way - the reason I am overweight, other than having a baby recently, is that I didn't work out, I quit smoking and stress ate to compensate as I learned how to not smoke, and ate the wrong things so that I ended up overeating (the classic "low calorie makes you starve and then you end up binging" thing)!

Slapshot is offering you some very good tips in carb tracking based upon experience, nothing more. Given you are in Induction, the advice is being offered because it's easy to get tripped up. It's totally intended to be helpful to you.

it was from a can but it is induction friendly. land-o-lakes makes a whipped heavy cream with splenda. o carbs per 2 tablesoon serving.

some of the questions feel helpful and genuine. but some others fee like i'm being interrogated. every post i have made on the board so far has been not only analyzed but psychoanalyzed, dissected and nitpicked. it can be frustrating not to be able to say anything casually. i didn't realize the word treat was so controversial.

Well, sorry, I never saw that product in the store, maybe it is there and I never noticed it.

I only see Reddi Whip and is it Dream Whip? at the store. I will have to look closer.

I have the landolakes heavy cream. Be sure to still count the Splenda that's in it, even if it says 0 carbs per serving, so does Splenda even though it has like .9 carbs per packet. It will still count towards your 3 packets allowed on Induction per day. I'm still not sure if it stalls me or not so I use it very carefully.

Having been around here a while and slipped up more than a few times, I think people are tough because we see so many people come and go and think they are doing Induction right or their own way, don't follow the book or advice here, and disappear when they fall of the wagon or hit a stall, wonder why they aren't losing weight, etc. Many times I thought I was doing Atkins right and following the rules when I haven't been. I've learned through alot of advice here.

A big part of Induction is also breaking addictions to caffeine, sugar, starchy carbs etc. For some people, myself included, coffee tends to cause hunger, cravings etc. so I try and avoid it. Your mileage may vary. Try it and see how you do with it. Just be cautious of fillers and other additives in things like coffee.

Splenda, per se, has 0 carbs. It's the bulking agents in the granular stuff that has carbs. The Land O Lakes whipped cream is made using liquid splenda, so the only carbs are from the cream. However, counting it as a sweetener for the purpose of weaning onesself from sweet foods is probably not a bad idea.

Well, I got out my bag of Splenda, and the list of ingredients (right under the Nutritional label) is:

                                INGREDIENTS: MALTODEXTRIN, SUCRALOSE.

So ... I guess that either you didn't find the list of ingredients or your bag of Splenda is something different?

And for the record, the list of ingredients on a packet of Splenda are:

                                INGREDIENTS: DEXTROSE, MALTODEXTRIN, SUCRALOSE.

Both the bag and the packet are marked U Parve.

And yes, I know that there's Kosher and Kosher for Passover.
