Need Help about how many carbs are in this...

  • Need Help about how many carbs are in this...

    I have some leftover tenderloin.. and was thinking of making some soup for my supper today.. however i cannot find a carb count for the broth I intend on using. I looked in fit day and there is nothing similar to go by.. its home made broth my mom makes.. its chicken boiled in water or turkey bones boiled in water.. nothing added to that.. no salt or anything.. just the water and the flavor from the chicken or turkey bones. Does anyone have any idea of what kind of carb count 2 cups of that would be?

        I was just unsure as all the soup stocks on fit day had carbs in them.. I assumed it was likely due to addatives.. but just wanted to make sure it wasn't due to something else Can look forward to some soup for supper now

          The carbs are prob from veggies, many people add onions/carrots/celery/garlic to the pot while making broth (for flavour) then strain them out with the bones, etc. Not sure if that is what you meant by additives.

            Yep.. that is what i meant.. also I think in commercial soup stocks sold I think they must add quite a bit of salt (the sodium counts are often quite high). I assume with a large amount of salt there are also carbs added. Turns out there was no soup stock in the freezer here (I work for my parents at a private care home).. so I ran out and got some chicken to boil up Am going to add some of the chicken meat to the soup as well. figured some couliflower (have some left over) would taste good too and maybe a tbsp of diced onion. a dash of seasoning and it should be pretty tastey Thanks for the replies!!!!

            Also. where can i post question about my cal intake and advice on how i can eat an appropriate amount (according to fit day I am coming in about 1200 to 1500 cals a day)

              And there's generally sugar in commercial broth.

              One rule of thumb is to eat 10-12 times your current body weight in calories. 1200-1500 wouldn't be enough for you.

              You can also look at your Basal Metabolic Rate:

              BMR Formula

              Many people eat 250 above that number ... and lose.

                wow about the sugar.. I wouldn't have even thought about them adding sugar.. seems so unnecessary? Unless its for longevity/shelf life purposes.. then it sort of makes sense.


                made my soup and it was tastey

                I am trying to read through some of the recipe's and menu's to see how I can improve my cal intake.

                  Usually when I make stock I'll sweat some chopped onion and celery, add the soup bones (roasted chicken bones are oh-my-so-good), about 8 qt water and put in the pressure cooker... cook 40 mins at 15 lbs pressure. The vegetables do add minimal carbs to the stock, but I like the extra flavor.

                    ok..today I was hungry once during the day..and I ate soon after.. and still.. i am not coming in at a proper amount of cal's.. on fit day it says 1045.. but that is not including the 2 cups of soup stock i had in my soup. I plan to eat an oz of cheese yet and possibly a cup of tea with that.. I am in at 15.2 carbs on fitday so far. Please.. how do you get the right amount of cal's in when you don't like meat all that much? The meats that I do like to eat are all lean lower cal meats.. not bc i am trying to be low cal.. its just the only meats I can stand to eat regularily. gah.. I feel like if I don't get on track with a proper amount of cal's.. it will sabatage all my efforts

                      Total carbs or net carbs?

                      Add more fat to your eating ... that will add calories.

                          Ok, if I were to make chicken stock....and an onion, chicken and some celery....how do I figure out how many carbs that would be in a bowl to eat????

                          I am so lost when it comes to figuring out soup with Fitday so I just avoid making it.

                              You would add up the total net carbs and then divide by the number of servings.
