I finally got on the scale on Feb 1 and have been weighing each morning. I am in my 3rd week and am in moderate ketosis but have been gaining .2 to .4 lbs each morning? I am getting a little depressed about this. I also am a little week in the legs--went for a bike ride last weekend and could only do 3 miles and a couple of months ago I did 20 miles. I am also having severe leg cramps at night. Any one else experience these things?

Re: Gaining weight?
Norma, scales are evil, you know that, and they just frustrate a person when they don't cooperate, so put them away and try on those tight jeans, That will make you smile.
You might want to post what you ate yesterday just so the experts can peek and see if there is something they see that you don't. Also include your exercise and water intake.
We can absolutely do this my friend.

Re: Gaining weight?
If your weighing yourself, try to do it only once a week. Weight will fluctuate before it actually comes off. I have exparimented with my scale to see if I could identify any pattern, but there is none. I have weight myself before I went to bed, woke up and weighed myself again and lost up to 5 pounds in my sleep. Or doing nothing different, I have gained up to 5 pounds. Weight will go up and down before it comes off. If you are doing any weight training, you may be adding muscle mass and transforming your body. The scales will not show that. Keep a positive attitude and keep up the good work

Re: Gaining weight?
Not sure if you're female, but I usually gain a few pounds right around TOM... also if I have had a lot of fiber I sometimes retain a little water for a while. Starting a new workout routine may do it as well... muscle weighs more. I learned early on that the scale is NOT my buddy...
I learned also that certain foods will kick me out of making progress. Sugar-free sodas, sugar-free gum, pork rinds... just don't spell weight loss for me.
I use a tape measure to really track progress. I do weigh in, sure, but the tape measure hasn't lied to me yet.

Re: Gaining weight?
Definitely use non stretchy jeans to check your progress. I only lost 1lb last week but I could get into a pair of jeans I couldn't wear the week before. Only the thighs were a little tight. I have 3 pair of jeans each a little smaller. The second pair I could not get past my thighs the week before and after that measly 1lb on the scale I could get them up and came about 1/2" from buttoning them. Will recheck them again on Monday when another week is up.
I'd much rather be melting inches since that is what you see in the mirror, eventually the scale will catch up.

Re: Gaining weight?
Are you eating your veggies? Drinking your water? Over or under eating?
Yes if you are concerned share a menu and I am sure you will get some pointers.

Re: Gaining weight?
5:00 a.m. McDonalds Bacon & Egg & Cheese Biscuit minus the muffin 4 carbs
9:00 a.m. Egg Salad on Foccaccia Bread 1/20th of recipe
12:00 Cabbage stew 1.5 cups
4:00 p.m. Cabbage stew 1-2 cups, almond meal muffin 1.5 carb
10 - 15 almonds during in the day
2 cups green tea
2-3 cups coffee
2 diet cokes ( I am addicted)
3-4 cups water
About the only exercise I am getting is walking. I am trying to do 10,000 steps a day. Will be doing a 10k volksmarch this weekend.
Is cal-mag a brand name. Can I find it at Walgreens?
I also gained .2 lbs yesterday. I am still in moderate ketosis but feeling weak. I am not at all hungry, usually feel pretty stuffed after eating a small amount. I think I will not eat the almonds today and see if that makes a difference.

Re: Gaining weight?
Are you on your first 14 days of induction as your profile info suggests?
If so almonds are not 'legal', nor probably the bread depending on the ingredients.
Also it looks as if you are depriving yourself out of your 2 cups of salad vegetables.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Gaining weight?
What you need is a good look at the rules. You are not close there. The rules of induction are good. They will make virutally everyone lose weight. And you have to cut out that sweetener. Most people will not lose when stimulating sweet responses all the time.
Here are some threads in our FAQ that will help you.

Re: Gaining weight?
Only 3-4 cups of water? Your not even at half of what you need to be on water intake. It is recommended that you consume at least 64 oz of water each day. Alot of people, myself included exceed the minimum. Water has alot of benifits. I'm not going to list them all, however a couple worth mentioning is #1 Water will help fight cravings and hunger #2 It keeps your system flushed.sigpic
