  • Lose that Tired Feeling - How did you do it?

I can't seem to lose that tired feeling. At first I thought it was the double whammy of dieting and caffine withdrawl. I'm on day 28 and figured my body would be adjusting to the changes by now.

I'm curious if anyone experienced this when you started Atkins and what you did to re-gain your energy. I'd love to hear from newbies and veterans. Thanks, in advance, for sharing!

[As a reference point, I feel like I'm losing at a reasonable rate (ie not too fast) - I supplement with vitamins - I'm good about watching the ratio of fat, protein, carbs (love Fitday) - however . . . I know that I can increase water. ]

Diet Reminder: It's a marathon, not a sprint. It took a long time to gain the weight, it'll take some time to loose it. Stay strong.

I usually have more energy after a week of starting. My caffeine withdrawel lasts longer even though I have trouble kicking the habit entirely. Maybe you just need to eat more especially if you exercise a lot. Maybe it's time to move up to OWL if you have not already.

      Hi,
On plan since August, I have more energy than I have had in years! Only lack energy if I am feeling emotionally down for some reason. Otherwise I am great, and exercise 6 days a week.

Do you do any type of exercise? That usually helps a LOT!!!

Ahh - other factors. I'd like to believe that I'm a young 41, but I had a ski accident (knee injury) in January that has severely limited my ability to exercise. As a matter of fact - I'm not cleared to exercise at all yet - not even walking for exercise. I know, I know - what a time to start a diet. The feeling was that there's no better time than the present.

          OK,

My left knee is a mess too.. I can do a lot of exercises like Zumba, but I can barely get my self down and back up off of the floor if I do any floor mat exercises!!! LOL I know my limitations and work with them.

SO- Do not hurt your knee, BUT--there are many things you can do while even sitting. Upper body strength stuff. (Light weights) Check the internet, I have seen many things for people unable to use their legs.
Scour Amazon.com, etc. No reason for you to not still get some form of exercise in. There is a class at our Park District...all the ladies are age 80 to 101. 45 minute class. Most walk in on walkers and 1 on oxygen. They never get off of a chair during the exercise. So no knees are bothered.

Even if there are some light leg movements in a DVD, you can skip what may bother your bad knee. You can do stretches and bends and reaches while seated also.

          Good luck!

Re: Lose that Tired Feeling - How did you do it?

I got all my energy back and more by the end of the first week. But I don't drink pop or coffee so I didn't have any caffeine withdrawls to deal with. I would think by now you'd definitely be back to normal. Not enough water will zap your energy so that's probably it.

Caffeine withdrawal lasts less than a week, so it can't be that... how much sleep are you getting every night?

I find the more sleep I get, the more hours I can go without eating which leads to more weight loss... I snooze whenever I can...

Have you had a check up lately. Thyroid for instance?
I did not have an energy deficit on this diet either but I did not stay on induction for more than a few weeks. Perhaps trying more veggies to see if that makes a difference. Good job on cutting that caffeine.

Thanks, missiontolose. Sometimes it takes someone else to see what you're missing. You're absolutely right - I've seen news shows showing "chair" exercises. Thanks for the suggestion - love it!

Thanks, Liv. Great suggestion. When I turned the big 4-oh, I had the battery of tests. No thyroid problems noted, but you bring up a key point since I'm still dragging - I need to consult my physician. Even at my heaviest, I was very active. Who knows. The inactivity may be the culprit.

The percentages are not telling you whether or not you're eating enough. You could be consistently undereating calories and/or net carbs, and not giving your body the nutrition it needs. That would cause you to feel tired.

Could you post a typical menu, with quantities and net carbs for all foods?

How many calories are you consuming, on average?

ITA. This time around on the diet, I eat smaller meals more frequently, and am sure to have enough minerals like potassium and magnesium (especially the latter). I posted on another thread that guacamole has been extremely helpful.

maybe you have a food intolerance that you havent found yet? maybe your allergic to heavy cream but you only eat a little bit so you can't tell if your allergic to it or not?

iv noticed that leafy greens if i eat them at dinner or later they give me insomnia for that night...

while normal whole vegetables are good

i have food intolerances too whiping/heavy cream, sour cream, milk, some cheeses but just the ones like ricotta cheese, tomatos, aspartame, nuts that are not fresh, and recently found out anything coconut and spagetti squash i guess its too starchy =/

also i may have a food intolerance to canola oil but not 100% sure yet

i hate when people say oh its just cause you ate too much.. where did that stupid saying come from?

if a bite of a food that your allergic too makes you feel like crap then no amount of it is ok for you

I had a horrible lack of energy for weeks, week 1 through week 4. After asking people on this site for help, I added more healthy fats like olive oil, feta, bacon, avocados, butter and others. This really made me perk up and sent my energy to whole new levels. I also moved into OWL rung 1 and I eat every two hours. This helped my energy level even more. I now get these "energy surges" that send me through the roof, especially when I eat the grilled chicken with feta and olive oil. I workout four times a week and drink between 100-130 oz of water a day. I also take L-Carnitien, a multivitamin, magnesium, calcium and Chromium. Not sure which had the greatest effect, but in unison, they really made a great difference. Good luck!
