  • Candida diet, not losing....

I guess i have the worst luck in the world and that i have candidiasis, hypothyroidism, metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance, all of them at the same time; I mean there's nothing else i can think about....im getting tired of being patient, frustrated and wanting to give up.
I started induction Jan.31, lost 6 pounds in those 2 weeks. It's been almost 2 months and i've lost 10 pounds in total. I even started Candida diet 2 weeks ago and have lost 2 1/2 pounds since then.
I walk 1 hr. mon-fri, sleep well, drink a gallon of water daily, not sugar of any kind, only vegetables are romaine, spinach, cilantro and watercress, 1-2 cups a day. The rest of the menu is tuna, cod fish, chicken, beef, pork and eggs.
Following candida diet to a T. I eat 4-5 small meals a day. Im taking multivitamins no iron, fish oil, l-carnitine, coq10, chromium, oil of oregano, raw apple cider vinegar, psyllium, acidophilus&bifidus, nothing contains starch or sugar.
Still 30 pounds away from my goal.
I need some guidance, some light please....Thank you very much.

    >>only vegetables are romaine, spinach, cilantro and watercress, 1-2 cups a day.>>

That's not enough vegetables. You should be getting 3 cups ... and you should have some of the more carb dense vegetables allowed on Induction.

You should also move to OWL.

        Not at all.

You're not eating enough ... could be why you're not losing.

Moving to OWL often gets people losing again.

                  Re: Candida diet, not losing....

With those conditions, your weight loss might be slow. I have your conditions except for Candida and I typically only lose maybe 1 lb a week. I've only lost 14 lbs since January. So I'd say 10 lbs isn't that bad, but some menu tweaking could improve that too, as well as dealing with the Candida.

I second the above of increasing veggies, and maybe consider moving into OWL and see how you do too. Also make sure you are getting sufficient fat (65% or more). I have found my weight loss is slower if I'm below that. And enough calories too. I found I lost better when I upped my calories (adding more fat will do that too).

thank you bizzlekitty, i'll increase my veggies but how do u manage to increase fat?, today i had a big omelette for breakfast which i fried in plenty of soya oil,
4 eggs, 1 yolk (dont like yolks)
                    1 cup cod fish
                    1 slice onion
                    1/2 cilantro

For lunch I had 3 cups of romaine with lots of olive oil and 2 fried pork chops
My snack will be 3 boiled egg whites plus lots of olive oil

And for dinner im planning to have some veggies with ox tail stew
I think this menu already includes plenty of fat, but I wouldnt know how or where to add more of it; im afraid of getting disgusted or doing something bad, please help me....

                      Re: Candida diet, not losing....

Olive oil is a good way to do that. Are you using a tool for tracking what you are eating, like Fitday? That will show you your percentages, calories, and carbs which is very useful. When you eat leaner meats, you do often have to add fats such as butter and olive oil to make up for it, and if you're doing that, great. Just can't hurt to tally it up with something like Fitday to make sure. I have found that invaluable for optimizing what I'm eating to best lose weight.

I'm not 100% sure but isn't soya oil made from soybeans? If so, that might not be best to use since we should avoid soy with thyroid problems, plus soybeans are not allowed until a higher rung of OWL. Someone else might know better. Personally, I'd use butter or olive oil to cook with.

Plus if you're not eating the yolks of your eggs, you may be missing alot of the good nutrients that eggs provide, including the fats. Either eat the yolks or find another food that you like to eat instead.

Looks like you are low on fat and maybe also calories.
I think it is very important to not go low on everything. It looks like too low on carb as well. I am hypo and I do not do much soy.

                          Re: Candida diet, not losing....

Soybean oil is technically fine on Atkins, even if soy beans are only allowed later in OWL. Same holds for grapeseed oil, for example.

Soybean oil is high in omega-6 though... and, for health reasons, I would personally use some other oil (olive oil, as bizzlekitty wrote, is a good choice)... or butter.

Thanks to all for the support...
I just signed up for Fitday and did my first food log with today's foods. It came up to this:
                            Cal 747
                            Fat 52.1

                            Prot 61.3

I'm boiling 4 more eggs now to eat them later with olive oil, so this would have to be included on this log....

                            Do these numbers look fine?
