  • Re: negative posters

And I've seen cases in the past where a poster did post a nice reply to "don't ever post to me again" and that blew up into a big "I thought I told you not to post to me again!" type fight.
If the OP had the option to block the poster in question, this would not happen. I'm sure this would be a very rare occurrence, but if someone is that upset, there is probably nothing the second poster could say that would be helpful.

ADBB used to have a mission statement that we were hard on ideas, soft on people back when the board was young when Not2late and I joined. It seems to have gone missing over the yrs.

I think that's what happens with a lot of my posts. I try to be too thorough and I believe they just get passed over. Why do I think this? Because most times, further down the thread the same questions that I tried to painstakingly answer are asked again.

        Maybe someone reads them.

I myself like the quick, and straight forward answers best, as I am a very busy business owner, and have 10 minutes to usually read the forum. Sometimes when I write things to other people, I have looked back afterwards and thought that it could be misconstrued as being rude, when it was really because I didn't have a lot of time to get my point across.
I have to admit that I too sometimes get a little annoyed with the same questions being asked over and over, when there is a search option that I used in the past myself to answer all of my questions when I first started out, because I didn't want to waste anyone's time. I think it is great that there is so much knowledge and support on this board.
Everyone is different, and likes things in a different way. When the show Biggest loser first started, I for one preferred the harder training style of Gillian to Bob, who seemed a little softer. I'm sure if we did a survey, people would be evenly divided on who they would pick as well.
I think that we should all just agree to disagree on the style of how people post on here, pick the ones we like and block or skim over the responses we don't.

You know some of us read the book.. and sometimes we need a little more explaining than the next person because we aren't understanding it.. I see nothing wrong with asking.. even though a question is asked more than a couple of times....I also feel speaking for myself of course that there are times I need the "tough love" and there are times I need the little hug.. My son is in the hospital... ill.. and I had a piece of godiva cheesecake and a donut.. half of my family and friends took me around and gave me a hug and the other half scolded me... either way I deserved both...I just don't think its right to make someone feel bad if they ask a question that might have already been answered, if they dont get it...and the answer be given in a negative way... with that said I really appreciate the people on this board... You all have helped me more than anyone would ever know... more so than my very own family and friends..

How about a BIG HUG for your son and a man hug for you. Never mind, a regular hug for you.

Thanks Forbey.. I will take all hugs.. but I am sorry I didnt want my situation, to take away from what this thread was about.. I just wanted to say that sometimes we need a swift kick and sometimes we need a little gentleness..and some things in the Dandr book, for some people it clicks right away...and then for others we need a little more explanations before it clicks, know what I mean?, so being rude about it makes me want to run the opposite direction... thats how I feel anyway... naw man hugs are great!!

I think the best threads are the ones where several "old timers" reply. When that happens, there is usually balance between the tough love and hand holding. Since every person responds differently these seem to help when the information is consistent. I know depending on my mood I sometimes want the tough love and at other times want reassuring (or at least I did early on).

I believe everyone responds with the best of intentions and that no one here really has any ill will for others. A comment was made a few pages back about remembering that this is a written form of communication. With that we don't get the benefit of facial expressions that sometimes soften words.

Everyone - give thought to what you say and how you respond. If you don't like a particular poster, put them on ignore.

                                Good luck to you all!
