Odd that you see it as an [Atkins] option.

One thing I've learned since this "double down" became a topic of conversation, people who are determined to eat it will do so regardless of the list of ingredients. Blinders are what they are I suppose!
The grilled double down has no trans fat....
The non-grilled version has .5 gram trans fat.....

Did you research this at all?

      Re: KFC Double Down

What I got instead-- as I stood in anticipation-- was what every teen boy experiences when he gets to second base: a mediocre, awkward moment with a couple of breasts.

We ordered the grilled chicken version of the sandwich and a pair of bird bazooms much smaller than the media images shown were slid to me across the counter (*sings* enhannnciinngg).

"There's no cleavage here!" I said to my son. The manager covered her chest. A nearby plumber hitched up his pants. But I kid

That is the funniest thing I've read in weeks.

          Re: KFC Double Down

I ordered this last Friday night on my trip to KFC and got it grilled without sauce. It consisted of two chicken breasts with two strips of bacon (small ones, maybe it was two halves of one piece?) and a piece of cheese in between. However I ate it and it was more filling than I thought it would be since the grilled version is much smaller looking than the breaded one. But...I liked it. I always like to have another low carb friendly option whenever I eat out so I consider it a good thing. I also had the combo and was able to get a side of green beans. So considering it was a fast food meal, it wasn't bad. I had veggies and protein - probably more sodium than it should have but as far as my fast food standards go, it was just fine for me and eating the whole thing was just enough food to satisfy my hunger. Oh and I was going to get mayo on it but it didn't need it and had forgotten to ask for it anyways. I did put some butter spread stuff (not sure what's in that, gotta check I am sure its terrible for me) on the green beans and those were good too. However next time I will probably just enjoy the Kentucky Grilled Chicken like I have been doing all along anyways because its still my favorite but like I said before, its nice to have another LC friendly option that is good.

          TTFN!

            >>The grilled double down has no trans fat....>>

That's not true if you read the list of ingredients. Remember that they can say 0 if there's up to 0.5.

            >> Did you research this at all?>>

I read the list of ingredients. I can identify the words "partially hydrogenated" and that means "trans fats".

            Here's the ingredients:

            KFC® Grilled Chicken

Fresh Chicken Marinated With Salt, Sodium Phosphate, and Monosodium Glutamate. Seasoned With: Maltodextrin, Salt, Bleached Wheat Flour, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean and Cottonseed Oil, Monosodium Glutamate, Secret Kentucky Grilled Chicken Spices, Palm Oil, Natural Flavor, Garlic Powder, Soy Sauce (Soybean, Wheat, Salt), Chicken Fat, Chicken Broth, Autolyzed Yeast, Beef Powder, Rendered Beef Fat, Extractives of Turmeric, Dehydrated Carrot, Onion Powder, and Not More Than 2% Each of Calcium Silicate and Silicon Dioxide Added As Anticaking Agents.
            Contains Wheat and Soy.

              Re: KFC Double Down

looking at the nutrition, it shows the grilled version has no trans fat.

The fried version version has 0.5g.
If your afraid of .5G then try the grilled version?

How bad is .5G of Transfat per day exactly?

The problem is that so many people eat mostly fast food and processed/packaged foods and these small amounts of trans fats add up to be a real health concern. For those doing Atkins, .5g is miniscule BUT...the point of Atkins is to get away from processed foods and things like trans fats. Just saying.

                  >>ooking at the nutrition, it shows the grilled version has no trans fat.>>

Why are you resisting looking at the list of ingredients?

You know that the nutritional label can say 0 even if it's 0.5 grams. So if trans fats are in the list of ingredients, then the end count simply can't be 0.

                  >> How bad is .5G of Transfat per day exactly?>>

We're supposed to avoid it on Atkins. Period.

There isn't anything in that grilled "chicken" that I would want to eat. It's not chicken ... it's something else.

And if the trans fats doesn't bother you, what about the flour? How is that Atkins friendly?

I can tell I'm breaking your resolve atkinsgal08.

Soon, I'll have you come over to the dark side. Come on, you know you want it......

No one can resist it, its imbued with the power of bacon!!!!

                    Eat IT !!!!1!!111!!!!!

I guess I don't take ingredients as seriously as others. To each their own. Though I would simply like to say that as far as I know the grilled version is "safe"

I promise to report any extra arms, eyes or noses that sprout from having consumed 0.5 grams of trans-fat.

Until then, nom nom nom nom nom !!!!!!!

If you had researched the list of ingredients, you would have known that trans fats appear as hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils. The zero on the label is not necessarily zero, that's why we need to check the ingredients, too, not only the nutritional label.

From Chapter 27 of DANDR 2002:

"Many Americans are still unaware that the most grossly harmful heart health trend of the last century was the gradual replacement of healthy natural fats and protein foods with foods such as margarine. They are construed with hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils, which both contain fats never found in Nature."

As far as Dr. Atkins knew, we should stay away from trans fats coming from hydrogenated oils. He was pretty clear about this.

From Chapter 18 of DANDR 2002:

"Consume no hydrogenated oil or other trans fats"
"Get action. Seize the moment. Man was never intended to become an oyster."

                        >> I guess I don't take ingredients as seriously as others.>>

That is certainly your choice. It's not mine.

                        >>Though I would simply like to say that as far as I know the grilled version is "safe">>

To me, that's an amazing statement coming from someone on maintenance. It makes me wonder what you've actually learned doing Atkins.

I know that what I've learned is that if someone (such as yourself) is determined to eat something, he/she will. He/she will find all sorts of "reasons" as to why it's "acceptable". He/she will ignore whatever facts don't agree with what they want the "truth" to be.

                        Enjoy your Double Down.
