Started part 2 and still amazed at the variety of food that is allowed on Induction and the amount of weight that I lost.
Also, the addiction and withdrawl section...boy, did I go through withdrawl. I was a big caffine drinker...caffine coursed through my veins rather than blood...I would drink 2 to 3 pots of coffee a day, caffinated soda with sugar, and caffinated iced tea with sugar. Talk about withdrawl! Stopped all of it at the same time and wow! Headaches, shaking, nausea...all of it hit. Oh, and let's not even talk about the irritability...but I got through it and now feel better than ever. When I have coffee now, it's decaf. People who know me are amazed that I'm going with "unleaded" now.
This WOL changes more than just your appearance. I thank Dr. Atkins every day for it.

I am looking at that special foods catergory on pg. 129
"To add variety each day you can also eat ten to twenty olives, half a small avocado, one ounce of sourcream or 3 ounces of unsweetned heavy cream, as well as two to three taplespoons of lemon juice or lime juice. But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate you intake of these foods."
Man, I am a super slow loser and here I have been having my 3 ounces of heavy cream daily and enjoying those other things occasionally. It is going to be hard to try to give up the cream since I love my hot tea and decaf coffee (the decaf coffee is usually when I am out at a restaurant eating rather than having the caffeined ice tea).
look at what you learned, atkid! that may have been why you are a "super slow loser". maybe things will speed up a bit for you now! don't be bummed, be happy that you found something that may have been slowing you down.

JUST BECAUSE IT'S LEGAL DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN EAT 3 HELPINGS OF IT. REMEMBER PORTION CONTROL
Tell me, what is the opinion if I am faced with either having a decaf coffee with cream (which could be slowing me down) or an icetea which I know is being made with caffeine, which would be the lesser of the evils. Before I started back with Atkins did have a major addiction to caffeine where I needed it to keep me alert all day, I know longer have that addiction but have a couple of glasses when eating out. I have read where caffeine is known to stall also. At home I am decaf all the way.
imho i would do the decaf with cream. if you know that caffeine stalls you, you don't want to do that. at least with the cream you are only slowing things down. any chance you would not do either one?
how about some hot decaf teas?

Actually that is what I have at home, but I think restaurants would frown upon me bringing my own tea bags in and asking for hot water to make my own tea or iced tea.
my honest opinion? who cares what they think! take your tea bags, ask for hot water and have it. if it's a quality place, they are not going to care. they might charge you for the water so it wouldn't matter if you drink hot water, throw it out, or make tea.
what could they do anyway? ask you not to bring your tea bags anymore?

I occasionally take green tea to coffee bars here. So far no one has made a fuss. I've also been known to take almond flour/sweetner cake to a restaurant so I had something for dessert after the meal and didn't have to watch everyone else eating their carby sweets. I reckon, if you've had a meal and are paying for that, they shouldn't create a stink because you bring a few mouthfuls of your own healthy sweet to finish up.

Still not too clear on Dr A's take on convenience foods (Atkins bars etc.). In several places in the induction section of the book he seems to say "use them (with discretion) if you haven't anything else available". Seems rather strange for induction...

Actually that is what I have at home, but I think restaurants would frown upon me bringing my own tea bags in and asking for hot water to make my own tea or iced tea.
I have always carried a few teabags with me since Atkineering as well as some sachets of 'legal' mayo and splenda. No restaurant has complained as long as I first try to order some 'legal' tea from them and they have said "sorry we dont do decaf/herbal/etc." They sometimes charge me for the cup of hot water and sometimes not - even sometimes bring me a tray with a pot of hot water with a cup/saucer for nothing!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies? Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
I carry DANDR in my truck to continually reference part 2 when I'm unsure.
As far as teabags, etc. I carry them also. I also keep a splenda or two in my glove compartment. What's up with spinach not being a 2 cup veg?

The Atkins bar and shakes for me are just glamorized candy, The whole point of the induction is to get rid of addiction such as sugar, and those bars are just gross... NOpe, not a bar lover here
