IMHO and I do mean humble, that's Corporate America for you! It makes me want to stick to the 2002 version just because it doesn't tout any products and is 100% about whole, fresh foods. And the sentimental one in me likes this one because Dr. Atkins wrote it.

i was thinking things along the line of corporate america, too. like they came up with additions to the rules of induction so they could "advertise" their new products and make money. i wonder what Dr. Atkins would say about all that? somehow i think he might not be so happy with some of the changes. i've wondered these things. just stating some thoughts.

he does talk about low carb products that are on the market, his and others,
and how they can fill a hunger when you need a snack. back 30 years ago, those of us that did atkins then, didn't have such products. sometimes i think it was easier then because the temptation of shakes, chocolates, candy and so on weren't available.

that's what we're working towards, brandy. helping you find your CCLL.

i've not yet found mine. more on that later.

i think sillygirl has a very good idea of what her's is. i think she might share that with us next time she logs in.

I had a bit of trouble finding my CCLL and CCLM... and eventually settled for a "CCLM with one glass of wine" because that's what halted my losses and it's not something I give up easily. Am happy with one glass, but do want to keep it. However, it's the first thing to go, whenever I notice an upward weight trend following other over indulgences.

Tks Jimmie and Megs for looking into and clearing up that induction foods/menus confusion. I agree, it would have been easier 30 years ago, without all these specialised low carb products. Fresh and unprocessed is always best.

I'm unaware of my CCL, too. I can't wait until we discuss this further. I am into endurance training and I've done research in the exercise forum and asked other ADBB members what their experience is when doing endurance sports and Induction.

I found that I need to have over the 20 net to keep my body sustained through long runs. But, the weight loss person in me keeps saying I'm doing it wrong because I'm not in induction.

Now, after reading part 2 I understand that I don't have to be in induction to be eating this WOE. That, I can go up the rungs, but, I might just lose at a slower rate.

Finding that balance for me, has been a struggle. I'm so eager to learn from others' experience.

no you don't have to be "in induction to be eating this woe". not at all! this is one of the myths that was addressed and what we've alaready read about.... ATKINS IS NOT JUST INDUCTION. how many times have we seen members come and go who think just that thought ???? probably hundreds.

buffy, that's the trade off that Dr. Atkins spoke about...... do you want to have more variety with your food choices and lose slower or stick with extended induction for awhile.

i can confrim by own experience and by watching challengers in the Veggie Challenge that going up the rungs can get you losing again if you stalled out (at least 4 weeks of no loss on the scale or tape). if someone has lots and lots of pounds to lose, moving up right after 2 weeks of induction might not be the right thing but when you only need to drop 50 or 60, i'd recommend moving up the rungs.

imho, and i've seen this quite a few times, the people who look at this woe as a get skinny quick plan stay on induction thorughout the entire weight loss, have no inteniton of using as a lifetime woe and after losing the weight , gain it right back.

I want to add my thanks to Jimmie and Megs for clearing up the induction menu on the web site questions. I think it is sad that Dr. Atkins spent most of his professional life challenging the establishment dogma regarding healthy eating, and as soon as he dies, some greedy marketers try to cash in on his reputation by changing the rules in order to make a few more bucks. I think it's poetic justice that Aktins Nutritionals went belly up. I agree with Megs - the 2002 version of the book (minus some attempts in the menus to push low carb products) is the gold standard for this WOL.

well said on both points, brandy.

fitday, to me, is a love hate relationship. i hate the time it takes me these days but i don't think i would have as good results right now if i wasn't using it.
and not to leave the other "like fitday" sites out. i know that some members use other sites and that's great. the point is, these tools can help us see things clearly.

Jimmie, thanks for your input. Your experience and Silly's are great assets for our discussions

I can't tell you the sense of freedom I feel about the whole "induction or move on" conversation. I was one of those who did Atkins for quick result and not understanding the flexability.

I didn't realize how stafiled I was before really reading and then discussing this. This has helped me stop beating myself up for not doing induction perfectly and changing my mindset to move up and experiment with triggers and non triggers to maintain a lifetime.

                          thx

i have to get chapter 19 read today. these are my notes of interest from chapter 17 and 18.

                            first from chapter 18.....................

CRYING WILL NOT BURN UP ENOUGH CALORIES TO SHED THOSE POUNDS!

who of us hasn't been there? if the statement were true, and crying would burn it all off of us, we'd all be skinny minis and writing books entitled
CRY WITH ME A RIVER AND FLOAT THOSE POUNDS AWAY!

                            1. i counted no less than 7 times that Dr. Atkins mentiioned the 5 pound rule when you reach your goal weight. remember i said last week, i believe it was, when something is mentioned over and over, it probably is something we need to pay particular attention to.

                            2. there are remarks and/or references to the "triad" at least 3 times.
                            WOE + EXCERCISE + SUPPLEMENTS = TRIAD

                            3. page 228 we see the 6 hour eating rule and page 230 we see the sweetner 3 pak rule. i've seen both of these questions asked time and time again so now when someone does an adbb search, these posts will come up and give specific page numbers. it's not me talking....it's the book!

                            4. now on the 14 day induction menu that we see in chapter 18, which is telling us once again, how to do induction, i take exception to the Sunday breakfast listed on page 235.
                            SUNDAY
                            Breakfast
One and a half slices Zucchini Nut Bread *
                            Two ounces cream cheese
all i can say is grrrrrrrr.
look at the menu and we see the Atkins baking mix and almonds. NOT INDUCTION FRIENDLY unless you're doing the induction from the atkins nutritional site, and that is not what adbb is about.
there are other menu mess ups but that one stuck out, to me, like a sore thumb. and "Two Bran-a Crisp crackers"? show me a person addicted to flour and sugar, or anyone else for that matter, that can eat just two crackers..... not gonna happen.

imho, i think the menus don't reflect the rules very well and it only serves to confuse the reader. all i can is adhere to the written words and be cautious as you look over the menus.
