Re: Slow Losers Club Christmas Challenge

Hey All - sorry, I don't get to the computer much on the weekends.

I already posted my stats for the week, and have confidence for this week because I am still terribly sick to my stomach, so keeping under calories is a piece of cake (or slice of cheese for us Atkineers), but the exercise is not going as smoothly as hoped. Better for next week.

My biggest challenge this week was finding atkins foods that were gentle on a raw tummy. Normally I'd be having white rice, milk, yogurt and other basically white foods that are non-abrasive to the tum, but all of those things were off limits. Meat and veggies really don't help and often give me further heartburn, and frankly I am a little maxed out on eggs and cheese. I had chicken salad for breakfast and lunch and don't think I can look at that again for dinner.
I saw a suggestion for a cauliflower vichysoise and I think I will try that if I can get some cauliflower at the market in the morning. Both kids are sick, so we're staying in tonight. Missing a Greek Wedding, which I am a bit dissapointed about. I was soooo looking forward to the food.

Again, on the bright side, the two pounds I lost this week have thus far stayed off. I haven't drunk my water today and I think my carbs are a little high, so I'd best up my fluids.

      Happy Saturday, All.

        Hi Titian,

Have you tried mock-mash? Basically steamed and pureed cauliflower (there are recipes on Linda's or sfs.com) and very gentle on the tummy I think. Feel better soon!

Re: Slow Losers Club Christmas Challenge

Yeah, I think that's on the menu for tomorrow. I just am all out of cauliflower - I seem to use a lot of it these days.

What I really want for my tum right now is a big glass of cold milk. The general sentiment from the board is do what you need to do to get better when you are sick, but I am trying to hold off until I get really desperate. I have never deliberately cheated since starting 3 months ago.

Heh. I will let y'all know tomorrow how this battle of mind over tummy goes.

One last suggestion - today I bought Westsoy Unsweetened Vanilla Soymilk, per cup it has 1g net carbs (total 5g, fiber 4g) to use in homemade granola I'm trying tomorrow. Not sure how you feel about soy milk but it's really quite good. Not like Ricedream, which I hate. I got it from Wild Oats if you have one of those near you...

                      MONDAY STATS CHECK

Hey All - It's just me this week as Sunny will be indisposed for a few days. It looks like things are going very well already. People are supporting each other and keeping on track with their goals.

Today is the day we start tabulating points towards the challenge. Select your top 4 most difficult/challenging/rewarding hurdles. Review your last week, and tally up your days, successful and not. Something like this (using mine for an example):

(Sunny corrected me - we only give points for 100% completed goals)

                      1) No Coffee: 6/7 (0 points)
                      2) 4 days of exercise: 3/4 (0 points)
                      3) No Grazing after dinner: 6/7 (0 points)
                      4) Less than 1500 calories: 5/7 (0 points)

We will tabulate the total points (10 points per each of the 4 done 100%)

If you could actually put the text: "Monday Stats Check" at the top of your post in a large, bold font, I would be so greatly appreciative. I will pop in throughout the day and try to tally everyone up. I think the way it works is I post everyone's stats and they have to be completely in by this Wednesday.

                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------
EXTRA CREDIT: This is the chance to gain a few extra points if your week did not go as planned. We will post an activity or question to be answered, completion of which will be worth a little more towards your total. These will be posted every other week. This week's question:

"What derailed you last week, and what could you have done differently?"
                      --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Muffy Week 1: 10 points _______________(out of a possible 40)
                      Sunny Week 1: 50 points
                      LooseShoes Week 1: 50 points
                      PurpleRain: 40 points
                      Adre: 40 points
                      Aya: 30 points

                      Great Job Everyone!!

EXTRA CREDIT: What derailed me last week and what could I have done differently? I had a couple of different problems last week.
1--Had to take steroid medication, so I'm up 7 pounds over my ticker. Not much I can do about that, but felt like I had some control by not going crazy with eating. I do tend to want chocolate more when I'm stressed this way. Trying to find a way to manage without it, but I'm not there yet. I couldn't exercise more to keep my mind off of my addiction because I felt bad. I am going up the rungs, so maybe eating more fruit would be an alternative. I really don't want to be dependent on any food for my mood--I know that's not healthy.

                              2. Exercise--I did exercise, but it was minimal with no heavy effort. Again, health got in the way, but I probably could have done some better. Healing takes rest sometimes and I'm trying to balance resting and healing with not getting lazy. Sometimes it's hard to know when to push and when to cut myself some slack.

Trying to save some self esteem and get a few points (thought we got partial credit).

EXTRA CREDIT: What derailed me last week and what could I have done differently?

Last week, and this, I was sick, as were my children. That made it much harder to do all my exercise and stick strictly to Atkins foods. Too bad they don't make low-carb saltines.

Feeling better this week, so I think that it will go much more smoothly.
