  • Re: Slow Losers Club Christmas Challenge

I'm back from the doc, and still not very happy. He removed NO stitches or staples. He only removed 2 of 4 drains, so my sister has to stay here to drain and measure twice a day. I'm still wrapped mummy style down to my first knuckles and it will all be like that until at least next Monday. I had to wait over an hour to see him and found out that he had scheduled 4 people for the same time!!! I itch so bad under the bandages that it is driving me crazy. I wanted to cheat again when we got home, but I want to be skinny and fit into my clothes more. That jerk is making it really, really hard to stay cheat free. I go back next Monday to see if he can remove the stitches and staples and the last 2 drains.

    Sunny!

You are not happy with your practicioner. Is there any chance of changing doctors? Even to someone else in their practice, perhaps? It doesn't sound like you are getting satisfactory care.

ps (would you like me to calc stats this week? I think you have other things on your plate )

I just wanted to say that I am inspired and impressed by everyone in this challenge. It seems like we have had a couple of weeks of bad luck, hurdles and things just not going quite right, but everyone here keeps getting back on the horse and plodding along. Not a glamorous image, but an inspiring one.

Keep it up, everybody. Keep your chin up and your carbs down. Drink that water and do that exercise even if that means just barely managing to lift a hairbrush (100 times, don't forget).

You guys are keeping me honest, and keeping me going. Thank you so much!

I have been going to my practicioner for almost 30 years. He is my rock. This was the surgeon, and I am afraid it is a little late to change. The damage is already done. The idiot was very proud of his shoddy work! He was shocked that I wasn't overjoyed! I have to wait until next Monday to get the rest of the drains out and to get at least 500 stitches and staples out. I'm still wrapped up like a mummy. I did get to take a shower today. That took some real doing, but it made me feel better.

Thanks for the offer to do the stats. I had a horrible night last night, with lots of pain, dripping sweat and vomiting. Don't know what was going on. I'm back off food and just having broth and lots of water today. I'm really not having fun just yet. Nothing is going as planned.

I am very impressed with how well everyone is doing. I have come and read the thread, when I wasn't able to type. It has helped to lift my spirits. We all fall, but we get back up and go again. Quitting is not an option. We will all get across the finish line soon. I have faith in all of us. Then the really hard work begins!! Keeping it off!!!

                Sunny!

Sunny, I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. I hope you feel better soon.

My official weigh day isn't until Saturday, but I have a hard time staying off of the scales. Today they were down! I'm hoping it sticks, I'm still on the steroids and my face looks like a chipmunk--on the upside, it's filling in all the wrinkles! I see my dr Thursday, so maybe I can reduce the steroids some more after then.

I'm enjoying the veggie challenge, it's helping me concentrate on the lower rungs and I'm almost too full from eating them.

I appreciate the accountability here, it makes it easier to concentrate on the basics that make Atkins work instead of agonizing over uncooperative scales. My pants are looser and I'm hanging on to that for a feeling of progress.

This is for Monday and Tuesday. It's starting off to be a pretty good week. I need to get to the trail and run.

                      My pledges will be:

Please review the prior week and write a short paragraph or two, detailing what helped keep you on track the most. What really worked for you?

Last week wasn't the best week. I tried to make all my pledges, but things happened to derail me. Having to come here and post has been a motivator but I don't think I tried hard enough last week. I'm going to be more aware of my pledges, especially my vitamins that I just can't seem to take.
Drinking my coffee with decaf is going well and I wouldn't be doing it without this challenge. I drink way too much coffee. I drink 30+ oz a day! Since starting this challenge, I have been drinking only about 20-25 oz a day plus there's decaf in it so I am doing a lot better. Soon, I'll be able to stop drinking coffee all together.

Hey, Purple--just an idea, but have you thought of taking your vitamins with your coffee? Sort of, "I can't drink the coffee without the vitamins". Just thought it might help remind you, it's hard to get a consistent system going. Once you do, though, it becomes a habit. Of course that doesn't help when you quit the coffee, but it might be a habit by then.

Looseshoes, I always think about taking them in the mornings but have read that caffeine inhibits the absorbtion of vitamins and minerals so I just try to take them at night, but by then they aren't even on my mind. But, I guess taking them at all would be better than not taking them. I really just need to stop drinking coffee.

Can I make a suggestion? I know coffee drinkers have a hard time thinking of tea as an alternative that excites them (I'm the same) but recently I've been drinking this tea called Pu-erhh tea and it's just great! It does have caffeine but less than coffee and the bonus is that it aids digestion supposedly. I was drinking it and always noticed I felt really good after a cup (just a kind of warm comfortable feeling of satisfaction) so looked it up. Apparently coffee drinkers tend to like it because of its full-bodied flavor. I've never been one to be hooked on tea (gimme my coffee) but I find myself looking forward to my Pu-erhh tea now. I'm not sure that it's available all over but defs from Wholefoods if you live anywhere near one. For what it's worth!
(PS we live and hour and 20 mins away from the nearest Wholefoods and Trader Joe's but I love both those stores so much that I make a trip once or twice a month).

Sunny, oh my goodness, poor thing. You're doing amazingly, keep up the strength!

Truly, knowing that I have made pledges to my challenge mates was what kept me on track. When I commit to other people, I would nearly die before I went back on my word. The other is that I have my beautiful clothes all cleaned and pressed, hanging where I can see, and I want to wear them so bad! Also, my big sis watches to make sure I don't cheat! On anything.
