  • Take Ten For Yourself

    So many of us are running in circles with work, exercise, our blasted Fitday numbers , family, church, kids activities, kitchen remodels, family sickness, upcoming holidays and the list goes on and on. Oh, lets not forget the 23 challenges we signed up for and the pressure to fultull our commitments as Leaders and/or Challengers.

    Who out there isn't pulled in 15 different directions each day?

    Some of us need to stop and smell the roses, breath and feel some calmness.

    There is no award being offered for this (although I might convinced to make a graphic as a reminder to TAKE TEN), there is nothing to gain except
    calmness and deep, slow, regular breathing. i hesistate to call it a "challenge". Let's say it's DAILY SELF RENEWAL .

    The only thing this TAKE TEN FOR YOURSELF will require is for you to join me in taking 10 minutes, each day. to be calm, be still and breath. Leave the pressures of life for 10 minutes. Trust me, they'll be there when the 10 minutes is up.

    You are WELCOME to join me any time.

    i was kinda told i needed to take ten, take a break and breath. so i'll be commitmitting to do this each day, starting today.

      and as promised to myself i sat in a hot tub and tried to not think of the days events. i listened to the house noises, or lack thereof and concentrated on the feel of the water.

        I love this!

        I was early to meet my Mom for the movies today by 15 minutes. I had planned on shoe shopping, but the store was closed. As in gone! So I sat on a bench and people watched while I waited. I tried to smile at every one who looked my way and they all smiled back.

          Wonderful! Tks for thinking of this jimmie!!

          Whilst waiting for people coming to see a house (they'd phoned to say they were going to be late) I managed to lie down, do 15 mins of deep breathing and relaxation exercises.. a sort of centering. Felt much more energised afterwards.

          Edited to add: This was yesterday... before I'd seen this thread... but it was great timing, because I rarely put things on hold for myself!

              i'm so glad to have the company! nice to have.... thanks sal, silly and caryl!

              i'm going to dig out this great cd of indian flute music we have. it's so calming and just getting thorugh a couple tunes will most certainly help when i need to concentrate on just breathing and staying still.

                Too funny, I have some yoga music that makes me fall asleep every time I listen to it!

                Caryl - 10 minutes of relaxation is difficult for me as well!

                  That's a great idea Jimmie... just what the doctor ordered after the chaos of the last week... I sure got a lesson in priorities that's for sure. Will start today. I also have a collection of meditation music. Will put it on and just breathe...

                    You're right Silly and Caryl; when you aren't used to stopping for yourself, it's very hard indeed! Lol. Just shows how much we need to!

                        I don't think I've taken 10 since my daughte was born. That was over a year ago.

                          my intent is not for anyone to feel compelled to log in here everyday as we have enough posts to look through and answer to, but the thread will be here to keep you and i accountable to take those minutes to refocus when we're under the gun.

                            I just saw this thread and I'm getting back to making myself a priority (again!), so this will be a good way to start.

                            I'm in...I've got music on my iPod that's great for relaxing...nice cup of herbal tea...sitting in a comfy chair...oh, this sounds so nice...I'll be doing this later.
