Well I went to my appointment. I'm really grossed out right now. The hospital neglected to give me some very important paper work about the care of my knee. Needless to say I now have an infection, so now I must start new meds (antibiotics). My doctor perscribed something else to help my "flow" problem (or lack there of), but he is insisting that I eat prunes and figs. I tried explaining to him that I don't eat fruit...and he didn't even budge.

Good news is my staples are out. Most of them where covered by skin and if it where not for an x-ray they would have missed one all together. The x-ray showed that the bone is healing really well. I'm still not allowed to put any weight on my leg for the next four weeks, but all is well. There are only two screws and no clamps, so that is good too.

The gross part now. Because the hospital didn't give me my physical therapy sheet (in addition to other care paper work) I have not been bending my knee at all for the past two weeks. Well I was suppose to be bending it slightly every day and increasing the bend too. Now my knee is very stiff and (even more gross part) when I do bend it past a barely bending point the 4 inch cut starts to pull and reopen a bit. There is blood, but not much. It makes my stomach feel like I swallowed frogs when I feel and see it.

I'm going to have my husband buy me some vitamin E tablets tomorrow so I can start rubbing the cuts with them. Hopefully that will losen the skin up a bit so I can bend my knee a bit more with out opening things. EWWWW gross. The doctor also informed me that he wants me to drink milk for the vitamin D and calcium....so I'll have to turn to vitamins tablets for those too....

I completely forgot to ask if I could stand on their scale. I don't go back for another four weeks (December 17th) So I suppose I'll have to weigh in then.

Well I hope ya'll have a fantastic Thursday
          Hugs ~

Oh, Liss, I'm so sorry about the medical snafu and the problems it's caused you ... at least the bone is healing properly. Are you taking Metamucil or the generic equivalent? Good idea about the Vitamin E for the wound, btw.

UGH! I am so angry at how they let you go home without informing you of how to take care of that knee....THose . Yes you should be bending it slightly to help increase the chance of having full mobility when you are all healed up. Its gonna hurt and feel stiff and weird but it does need to get done. DId they put you on an antibiotic for the infection? Can you put bacitracin on the incision to give the skin some flexability? I wish I could jump through the computer and come take care of it for you. Hang in there sweetheart! When do you start physical therapy?

Liss, I'm so sorry that you're having such a hard time! It's unbelievable that they forgot to give you such important information. You should write a letter to the hospital administration so that it doesn't happen to someone else.
I think as you ease off the pain meds, your er digestive problem will improve. Pain meds are notoriously binding. Why couldn't you use some psyllium fiber instead of prunes? It's sold in capsules now so you don't have to drink it anymore.
I hope those antibiotics kick in soon and that you're feeling better soon!
Me? I'm going to take a loooong walk today. One of my dogs got sprayed by a skunk last night and though I got her in the tub right away, the whole downstairs of my house reeks. It really burns your eyes and throat. I got the woodstoves stoked up and the windows cracked open ( It's 22 degrees out this morning) to try and air it out...it still stinks. Any tips?

Oh Sookie! That really stinks...(Sorry I had to say it) My best friend in Southbury had this happen and there was a cleaning service that came to the house and they were able to kill the smell...It was still faint but not like it had been and then maybe a week later you couldnt smell it anymore. I shot her an email to see if she remembers who she used.

                    • Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge

Norah, I do have Metamucil and silly me I completely forgot about it. I've been eating the Muffin in a Minute hopeing all the fiber from that would help out. My grandma has been stuffing broccoli and asparagus down me too, lol. I make sure to eat spinach in all my salads.

Razzle, thank you for your sympothy. I am right there with ya. I do plan on making a fuss at the hospital, but I know it isn't going to make a differance. When I told Dr. Kim last night that I didn't receive any of the things I said I should have received he got really upset and said that he gets more complaints about that hospital than any other one in Vegas. And it's suppose to be one of the best hospitals. HARDLY! I am going to put up a fuss, a big one. My husband wants me to call a lawyer. I'm not the sueing type though. But I don't mind yelling, lol.

They did put me on antibiotics for the infection. And I call to set up a physical therapy schedule today.

I made my husband sit in front of me with a flashlight to watch the cut and tell me when it started opening while I tried bending it. You are right, it feels weird and wrong, lol.

When I went to bed last night I took off the brace and worked more with it too. I'm going to put vitamin E on it in hopes it will help make it more stretchable and to help with the scarring because this is going to be an ugly one.

Sookie ~ I wish I had advice about your dog. I've lived in Vegas nearly my whole life, so I've never had to worry about my dog getting skunked, lol. I know in the movies they have people bathe in tomato soup or something, but that's about all I have I'm sorry. I wish I could be more help. I would like to tell you though that I'm so proud of you for checking in as often as you are doing here! How are things going for you? What is psyllium fiber and where in the store will I find that? I will take anything I can before I ruin my WOE. I started Atkins on 9/17, and though it has only been two months, that is two months of NO surgar or fruit or cheating of any kind. I'm not wanting to do anything to mess that up. I don't think I've lost any weight since my surgery two weeks ago. And I'm half okay with that because one I don't think I've gained any weight. And two I still feel "good" and proud that I'm sticking to this while down.

Today I'm going to go through all the recipes here to find "Thanksgiving" type dishes that I can eat and have others enjoy with me. My father thinks that I won't be able to resist the pumpkin pie, stuffing and cranberry sauce (though I've never liked crandberry sauce, lol but we won't tell him that). My father is over weight and diabetic, so I'm really hoping that I can show him that the WOE can be enjoyable if you are just willing to put in the effort.

Well I think I'll finish up this novel now, lol. Hugs to you all.

                      • Re: New YOU in the New Year's Challenge

Well I think I got it all taken care of. I had one of those sage smudge sticks and put it in a heat proof dish, lit it and went on my walk. When I came back the house only smelled like sage which though it smells a little like pot ( don't ask, I was young and impressionable), is very soothing to me. But no skunk smell. Yipee!
I like checking in here Liss, because everyone here in CT is basically ignoring the repeated statements I make regarding the way I now eat. A friend invited me to have Thanksgiving at her house the following Sunday because she wants to feed me ( she actually said that she needs to feed me). This really annoys me. I keep getting this sort of behavior from family and friends: come over and eat the food I made for you, if you love me, you'll eat it - and all the crap that goes with that. Then I feel bad because I get angry with them and they act like they don't understand why. After all these years I now suspect that they do know why but still want to play this twisted game. I just don't understand the urge to feed the fat girl some food, do you? Whew! I have no issues, huh?
Any how, where I was going with this before my mini rant was that I need to connect to people who get it. I'm sure I could do it alone, but it's much more enjoyable to talk to others on the same path. As for the pysllium fiber : you can get it at Walmart where all the laxitives are, or you can find it at the health food store. Walmart is cheaper. Try taking just a couple with a lot of water at first and increase daily til you are comfortable and that way there'll be no, um, surprises, if you know what I mean. Lots of Water!
I imagine with the vitamin E oil and exercises, the skin on your knee will stretch nicely. After all, I can point to several parts of my body where the skin has stretched farther than I ever imagined or wanted it to. And once those antibiotics get the inflamation down, it'll just get easier. Just hang in there, you've been very strong, and it should get easier now.

Sookie, I completely agree with you. I don't know why people have such a hard time accepting and understanding that us big girls don't need to eat the way "they" do. I also agree that the people on this forum are amazing. They are so willing to help and connect with you. I think that it's amazing that the people that have already made their goal weight or are very close to it still come here. That showes how amazing it is here.

I haven't checked in here in forever! I've been bad, guys! Not off the WOE or anything like that but my veggie quantities haven't been where they should and my cheese has likely been a bit too high. I need to get my butt in gear and focus! I am UP two pounds but I just finished TOM so I'm not too worried about that. So I'm HERE and ready to focus. We have our Atkins Thanksgiving menu planned, turkey, fauxtatoes, green beans with berries and cream for dessert...we may make some spinach and sausage quiche muffins to take with us to sub for rolls when the bread basket gets passed around.

So, yeah, hello everyone...sorry for my extended absence!!
