if you have been paying attention to the posts by the folk who gives reps then you would know they just look up the closest post they can find and rep the person for it so right now getting repped for your post is meaningless in a sense of valuing your posted words ticklehussler and that was the whole point of this topic that something that was created to symbolize the quality of the post has turned into a farce.

Well you are right that it is a farce if people are just repping towards the nearest post, and that is pretty sad to abuse the system like that.
But I'm not sure everyone would do that? Maybe it's just those who're involved in this thread?
I know that I go to the particular post that deserved the rep and also comment on the content of it (but that was more before we stopped becoming anonymous - I got a little shy about it)
Maybe the reps should be scrapped like the sister low-carb board - no reps and not even any fancy titles like 'atkins admiral' - I think they've only got "member", "junior member" and "senior member". Are we like one of the only lo-carb boards to have a repping system?

no, on another site one of our members posted in a different topic when she ask why nobody reps here they use the rep to send messages to each other like a PM system only they don't count against your PM box totals.

well reputation points must still be included in rep power formula which makes it an even bigger farce cause I have only hundred more posts but my rep power has jumped 5 points since this topic went up. LOL so stop repping me already.

But you also get rep points for posting crap in ChitChat.

LOL now I understand !!!
So the poor folks who have been here for over a year, but only post say under 200 times, regardless of how supportive they are, we can't give them points for that year or for that anniversary, or for a birthday, or because they lost 100 pounds, we can only give them points for a particular post.

Just a point for clarification, users have been and still are credited with rep points for length of tenure here. It is called the register date factor.

Register Date Factor For every X number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

yep Dessertthorn if you read the words in the box that opens it asks you What did you think of ____________'s post?
the I approve box is checked and it invites you to comment on it.

See if we are going to use it for Attaboy or Happy anniversary, or congrats on the great job you are doing losing weight then it should be altered to say send a message to _______________ which was what the PM's were for to begin with.

I have an idea. (sure, I don't post often, but that doesn't make my comments any less valid than others)

Keep chat and other 'meaningless' chatter posts out of total post count since total post count is used in the calculation of the reputation field (thanks for the link, 2big). This would reward people for actually helping people with their weight loss struggles.
