Hey, she said "look like". They could "look like" Pam's or Anna's AND be real.

Okay then, how about Tyra Banks? She even had hers inspected on her t.v. show and certified to be 100% real by a doctor.

Well, the holidays came and went and we all survived "political correctness" LOL. I enjoyed my holiday tree and wished all my athiest friends Merry Christmas, and no one stoned me, cause they were all busy wishing others Merry Christmas

I don't know over there, but here in the Philippines, the Christmas season doesn't end until the Three Kings day, which is the first Sunday of January.

                ...oh wait... nevermind.

No way. Not only would I not get upset for someone wishing me well regardless of the occasion, I definitely wouldn't scream at a doctor/nurse/someone I went to for help.

The only weirdness I had was at the airport coming home. Stopped to get something to eat and when I missed the first time the cashier said "Merry Christmas" she snapped at me "I *said* Merry Christmas!" I was like ok, and I don't know why you'd think I'd heard that any more than the first time you told me the price. All the 'huhs' should have been some kinda clue...

Just to throw a bit of a wrench in this whole thing.....

it is sort of related I guess to the fact of "assuming people fit into certain categories, and acting accordingly", such as being Christian or not....but in this case....

Senior's Days at Department stores! (I'm warning you you might find this a bit off topic but I see that it does fit somehow)

When I was younger and worked at the Hudson's Bay Company (Canada's largest department store), and whenever there was Senior's Day for those over the age of 60 (or 55?? i forget)....they would get an automatic 15 or 20% off anything in the store...

So of course many people would be in the store not knowing it was Senior's Day, so I'd prowl on those with the silvery - grey type of hair colours, and assume they were over 55 or 60! YIKES ....what trouble that got me into! They would actually get offended at times if I mentioned it was Senior's Day to remind them of their wonderful discount, and they would be like "I beg your pardon but I am NOT a Senior!!, so thanks but no thanks"!!

I guess people get offended over the littlest of things.....even with possibly saving some money on it too!

Hopefully no one things this post doesn't fit hehe

Re: Are we becoming too politically correct about the holidays? Not PC enough?

It makes me very angry when peopel bring up that BS about beig upset by Christmas.

Let me preface this by saying I am a buddhist by choice. I am a baptised christian and went to a catholic school, but I have changed my religion as an adult.

But dagnabbit! It's Christmas and it's about Jesus Christ! Why do people have a problem with that! The same with Easter! It's not happy egg day! If you don't want people saying that - then I expect you at work on Christmas day!

We are a 'multicultural' society in Australia, but it was white christian settlers that built the cities and legal system and everything. I am fourth generation white Australian.

Most of teh political correctness is not from immigrants and peopel of other cultures - who have no problem fitting in celebrating holidays. It's from these wierdo white europeans that have these stupid demands that everyone should tiptoe around them! ridiculous!

What is wrong about being taught religion at school ? to learn about other belief systems other than your own ? To make up your own decision. As long as it is not forced as the truth and presented in an information educational way - I think that's great!

There is no benefit in being ignorant, and making your kids ignorant about other cultures and other belief systems! This what the modern age is supposed to be about ?

I would rather see a nativity scene and have kids learn about Jesus and his message, then be the hungry ravenous consumers who love the coca-cols santa claus!

That being said - May peace be with everyone!

I've always wondered about Christmas in Australia, mainly because it's summer there. Most of the culture surrounding Christmas deals with snow. It doesn't snow here in the Philipines but it does get colder, so we can relate a little. But I can't help but smile imagining Santa in swimming trunks on a jet-ski waving to summer vacationers at a beach resort. I've got to see that someday.

Actually I do have good friends who are Australian and when they were exchange students in Canada, they loved our "white" Christmases. They said they still sing songs like Jingle Bells (dashing through the snow..etc), but they think its funny singing those songs in the heat of the summer when it is Christmas time down under.

I think the PC thing has become absolutely ridiculous.

I am do not follow any religion, I personally believe religion as such is an evil force in our world - look at all the extremists who cite their 'religion', while their interpretation usually bears little resemblance to the mainstream faith. Look at the Crusades. I've always felt if there is a God I can be far closer to him/her sitting under a tree contemplating a beautiful sunset!
That said, I have no problems with Christmas (or Hannukkah, Ramamdan or any other faith's sacred days). It is the Festive Season. We all like to wind up the calendar year with a bit of time off work and some fun. Nativity scenes have been around for, I daresay, hundreds of years. They do no harm and I am not offended by them. I do have an inward chuckle, because, as mentioned by many in this post, the Christians just stole the date of a pagan celebration to try and horswoggle simple folk into converting to their religion. Nobody knows when Christ was born, the first parts of the Bible were not written until about 300 years after his death.

And Christmas trees are totally pagan, like the maypole. Let's just wish people whatever we are comfortable with and get a life!!
