Re: If you have a dog?

Pedro barfed one time. It was when we forgot to close the door to his crate when we left the house. He barfed in his own bed, thank goodness.

Yikes! He's a dog. We don't "feed" him any people food, but if something drops on the floor, he usually catches it before we do.

I clean JuJu teeth ...pits have massive jaws and huge wonderful teeth to clean it is like cleaning an alligators teeth.....but we had a chihuahua for years that was so bad we had to have her sedated and the vet did it
go figure ..I can get in a pit bulls mouth no problem but a chihuahua defeated me!!!

no people food she gets raw meaty bone for breakfast and a bowl of Wellness dog food for dinner ..she smells so good and her coat and teeth are shiney ...

I thought about having Emily's teeth cleaned (she won't let me brush her teeth), but I don't want her to go under anesthesia...it's more risky for braceocephalic dogs. But since Gizmo is going under anyway, I would definitely have it done. Little dogs teeth seem to go bad faster than big dogs. The only veggies mine will eat are green beans! Ivy will eat just about anything, though. She will eat charcoal if some falls when we are pouring it into the grill.

Oh, and puke....mine puke a lot. Luckily they eat it back up....so no clean up for mommy!

Re: If you have a dog?

Since my doggies (9 & 10) are so old I do not dare to have them put under for the procedure of brushing their teeth. I have brushed them myself and given them things for their breath and teeth and so forth. The older the animal gets the riskier it is to have them under for surgery.

For those of you who feed their pets Greenies, not sure if you saw this or not but I thought I would pass it along. My dogs do not like Greenies but this is something to check into:

That sounds like my husbands relatives MOG. He doesn't have many teeth either. LOL

I'm so glad you brought that up! I saw that news story just the other day so I was concerned when I started reading this thread and hoped that others had heard this too.

I have two labs that live outdoors. They enjoy chewing on their toys and their teeth look just fine. I'm pleasantly surprised that they don't have bad doggie breath either.
After reading some advice from a breeder about dogs who live outside, we never bathe them either. They were strays that we took in. When they first came, they had very itchy skin and bald patches. Now they have beautiful shiny coats and don't have a strong doggie smell. I guess they're just "natural women"! LOL! I attribute much of the improvement to a good diet.

What are these 'greenies" made of? I know that rawhide chews can also cause the same problem!

Re: If you have a dog?

I'm not sure what they are made of - my vet has them on sale. They advertise that they are all natural and good for your animals' teeth. I am glad my dogs do not like them but I have a friend who used to feed them to her dogs and cat all the time and she started to see that her little dog (toy poodle) would vomit after he ate it and then would have some problems. Then I saw this article and forwarded it to her and this may or may not have been a part of her dog's problem -not sure. It does make you wonder. My dogs can't have pigs' ears because they gobble them up and then shortly after they are done they throw them back up. Yuck!

We do love our pets on this forum - don't we?

I agree about the greenies. I belong to a lab forum and MANY labs have had to have surgery to remove blockages from greenies. I wouldn't feed them to my babies. Rawhides can be dangerous also. Plastic kongs with treats inside are a great alternative if your baby loves to chew!

Re: If you have a dog?

My dog (black lab) is 14 years old. I take him in for a physical every year and they clean his teeth. Then, the rest of the year...I brush them with baking soda and a dab or toothpaste. He is so funny when he gets his teeth brushed. He licks the brush and snorts and acts like I'm killing him. But the vet told me he has very good teeth and gums and that they are just worn a bit from years of use.
