    Re: New Year Traditions share!!!

We go up to our cottage for new years, which is 3 hours north of toronto, we do the toast etc at midnight, then we all throw on our snowpants and jackets and go toboganning at the hill out back We started this 4 yrs ago saying we'd do it every year...well that tradition ended this year with waaaay to warm temps. All we had was slush and rain .

Usually this time of year there's a foot of snow easily, right now it's all grass. it's a shame as it's also killing local businesses as the skiiers snowmobilers and ice fishermen are no where to be seen.

Did someone say shopping? That's a must do for the New Year. Especially to buy a new pair of shoes. Do you know how many shoes sales there are on New Years? Lots!

This year we started a new tradition as a family. We cleaned out the garage, closets, and girls' room for toys and such. Then we hauled half of it over to the local thrift store that donates 99% of their proceeds to a shelter for battered woman. Then the other half of the stuff we share with friends and neighbors who have kids younger than ours. Like for instances, I had two pairs of snow pants that both girls out grew and still in great shape. I've held on to them for the past 2 years, you'd think I'd get rid of them by now. Well, they now have a new home to two happy little girls who needed them.

Yep, out with the old and welcome the new....I bought a new pair of running shoes to celebrate.

Always a toast & a kiss at midnight

We have a family tradition which might seem rather odd, but on the 31st DH and I always spend the afternoon together & at some stage we make 2 lists. One list is the things we regret for that year, things we want to forget, but haven't. The other list is all the hopes and dreams and goals for the coming year.
After midnight we burn the old 2006 regrets.

Wow, that is such a good idea! Great post HeidiE!

We always have champagne and a kiss too. I always insist on a mammoth walk on New Year's Day, it's a bit of a family tradition and we talk about new year's resolutions on the way. I couldn't do it this year, so did it on New Year's Eve instead. I always start a journal too, but quite often don't make it through the year

Now THAT sounds like a great tradition, except for the sush and rain part of course.
