Re: Anyone watch The Biggest Loser?

Awwww.....yellow team! I always vote for the underdog. How about that 80 pound wait loss dad had huh? He looked great after the 4 months.
I have to say...if they wanted people to work out....how about showers? What were they supposed to do? River wash? That place must have stunk to high heaven..uck!
It gets hot in that Canyon. You know they stunk!

Re: Anyone watch The Biggest Loser?

Man, I was just crying for the Yellow Team. But, whew!, no worries, Jerry is on his way back and looking great! Even on a cycle - that totally rocked! That did my heart so much good!

Frankly, I was wondering if they all were doing very little the whole time in the canyon. I was going nuts over it! There's plenty to do outdoors, even get in the river to clean up a bit if you need to. Regardless, there would still have to be some water around, enough to clean up some. It's called "roughing it and doing with what you have." Going to stink either way if you can't clean up, might as well make it count!

This show just rocks. I can't get enough of it - I'm totally inspired by it.

Re: Anyone watch The Biggest Loser?

I am a Biggest Loser FAN. I can't tell you how many series I have seen. I am glad the daughter of the yellow team stayed, she is young and shouldn't have to live her whole life over weight.
I am glad to see Dad lost 80lbs! He looked awesome. I didn't know he was a police officer like myself. I bet he feels great in his uniform.

WEDNESDAY: DID YOU CATCH THE SHOW?

The Biggest Loser Recap: Road Trip!
The teams ventured away from the Ranch this week — a road trip to the Grand Canyon for all the families. The incredible scenery and rugged terrain offered some great workout opportunities, which they all ignored — great choice, people! But this was no vacation. In case you missed it, let me break down the families' experience in the desert (without Bob or me), and what it was like when they returned...
The RV vs. Camping: Full of anticipation on the way to Arizona, the families were hit with their first temptation when they stopped at a convenience store. Alison was ready with a contest: guess the calories of certain snacks. Whichever team guessed closest to the actual calorie load on each round won a pack of gum. The first team to win three rounds won the contest. The prize? They got to stay in a comfy RV while everyone else had to rough it outside camping. Of course there was a catch! The teams didn't have to participate, but if they did and didn't have the winning guess, they would have to eat the snack. After guessing closest to the number of calories in a caramel, a string cheese, and a regular all-beef hotdog (that last one by forfeit of the other teams), the Orange Team — Ed and Heba — won and would have the RV to sleep in themselves. Would it make them so relaxed they'd lose their competitive edge? The rest of the teams only hoped.
Paddling in the Colorado River: This week's Challenge was all about strength and staying afloat. Here's how it worked: Alison blew a horn and one family member paddled in a kayak as hard as they could to get away from a dock. After 90 seconds, Alison's horn blew again, which signaled the other family member on the dock to pull an opponent's kayak back. If a team's kayak touched dock, that family was out. The Orange Team won again, after being able to keep the farthest away the longest. As a prize for their staying power, they won their very own RV to take home! Looked like spending the night in comfort didn't make them lax after all.
Back at the Ranch: Without Bob or me there to train them, and claiming they couldn't work out without a gym, the families had only WALKED around the desert. Some of them even described the trip to Bob as "sedentary." (Maybe hoisting boulders, as someone had joked, would have been a good idea!) Now it was time to get their butts back in gear. They needed to learn how to get in a workout regardless of having been outdoors — that was NOT an excuse. So for their last chance workout, it was a week's worth of sweat compressed into ONE session. During the workout, Jerry had a scare and needed a hospital run to investigate a possible blood clot. It turned out to "only" be a torn hamstring and it would just be a setback.
Standing Alone: There wasn't a voting process for elimination this week, so whichever team fell below the yellow line had a big decision to make: Within that team, one family member would go home and the other would stay at the Ranch. The Yellow Team was that team this week — even though Coleen lost 7 pounds, Jerry gained two pounds, resulting in only a 5-pound loss. Would it be dad or daughter heading home? In the end, Jerry was the one to say goodbye and it was now up to Coleen to represent the family.
Back at home in Cleveland, Jerry was on a mission. He is now able to run 1.5 miles every day, bike, and work out like a pro. Dr. H even went out there to surprise him with his health stats, which revealed a dramatic improvement in a short amount of time. He has lost a total of 70 pounds since starting on The Biggest Loser, and he makes me SO proud. Next week: One team is beyond my nerves with what they pull at the gym — you'll have to see what I mean. Also there is a very special homecoming to watch, so be sure to tune in next Tuesday!

JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY Don't Use Vacation As An Excuse
Think you can't work out when you're away from home? Think again. You better remember to pack your workout clothes because, trust me, you can burn major calories regardless of your location! Next time you're at the beach or in the mountains, look around for ways to up your heart rate. While my team was in the Grand Canyon, for example, they could have easily run to get in some cardio or used their bodies to do push-ups, tricep dips, squats, or lunges. You can even put the circuit training exercises found on my Web site to use since jumping jacks or mountain climbers can be done ANYWHERE! And, if you're staying at a hotel, you really have no excuse — you can check out the gym and get your workout done right there!

Don't forget to tune in to NBC TWO nights this week for The Biggest Loser, TONIGHT at 8 p.m. ET and Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET!
                  TUESDAY: FEELING GOOD

                  Be Prepared, Kid

Now that you've decided to lose weight, make like a Boy Scout and think of yourself as being on a mission. The key to success is having a game plan for every situation that might throw you off course. This stuff isn't brain surgery — it's common sense. If you take the time to think ahead, you can come up with ways to combat every situation. Here are a few surefire strategies:
                  • Go through your kitchen and throw out all the junk food and processed garbage immediately. (You can't eat it if it's not there!) Don't buy these foods anymore — just eliminate them from your kitchen entirely. Even if you have to put up with a little whining from the kids or your spouse, they're better off not eating that stuff and you can tell them I said so. Reacquaint yourself with your local supermarket, find the healthy sections, and try to avoid foods that make you feel powerless.
                  • If food in the office is your downfall, steer clear of it entirely. Take a different route and avoid the vending machines, or the frightfully fattening foods in the cafeteria. Bring healthy snacks and meals from home to stash in your desk. Do whatever you can to stay away from anything that might throw you off course and hamper your success.
                  • JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY Out of Sight, Out of Mouth
Usually we're so wrapped up in our problems that we can't see how simple it is to solve them. I have a friend, for example, who drove to work every day past a doughnut shop. Sure enough, he'd find himself stopping there constantly. Finally, I ordered him to take another route to work, just to eliminate the temptation. The result? He lost two pounds in a week just from this simple change in his daily routine.

Oops, good thing they rerun these online, I miss most of this one tonight. Came in just in time to see Jillian blow a nut at the girls. I've been wondering and guessing who was going to set her off, sure didn't think it was going to be all of them! eek!

Does anyone know what they're allowed for pain-relief medicines? Just curious as to which meds may hamper weight loss, although being able to keep the pain under control does mean you can keep working out.

I've never heard of a pain medication hampering weight loss? If they do I would imagine that it would be an individual thing and would vary from person to person.

On the pain of working out, since they're under supervision I'm sure they may take this route, for anyone that's working out on their own, if your in pain don't work out, take a rest day or two.. You might be masking an injury and hurting yourself worse if you workout while on pain medication for workout related pain.

When your body hurts it hurts for a reason.....rest days are just as important as workout days.
