Very cold and windy here today (20 degrees/40-50 mph winds) with the temps dropping hourly. Supposed to be in the single digits by nightfall. It's sunny out though which makes things more cheerful than the gloomy cloudiness we had last week.

What goofy weather...it was 50 degrees on Sunday!

Wow 50!!! Sounds real nice right now...Did you get any snow the last few days. Someone up in your parts mentioned a lot of snow yesterday.

Those winds are terrible, making those wind chills unbearable. Way back in 1982, we had a terrible cold spell of waaaaaay below zero with very high winds, and the wind chill was -80 for 2 days. All of the people living near us had frost forming on the inside walls of the north side of the house!!!
The furnace ran almost non stop and we were terrified it would break down from being on constantly. It would turn off, and start right up after about 30 seconds!

Mary that sound very cold.Here in the Uk where I live its a nice normal winters day cold and windy but not that much.NO RAIN NO SNOW!

mary - looks like chicago is getting more snow today ?? It's 26 this morning - feels good. Supposed to drop quick tho; which is a bummer since we have a 'motorcycle ride' tomorrow - tradition! Won't do it if its too cold or any snow...pray for a little warm up...I love this ride!

Morning Friends,

Yes, I just shoveled about 3", (I am not sure if my "snow man" was coming by or not), because I wanted to clean off the driveway and walk before it turns to frozen stuff later ---temps are dropping for the rest of the day. And the temps are going down to less than 10 during the day, and 0 and less overnight for the next few days!

So I wanted to clean off the driveway (and get some exercise in) and I have to leave here soon to pick up Mom from the city, keeping her here overnight...we are going to run around and have fun today and tomorrow, early dinner out tonight B4 the crazy drivers hit the road on "amateur night".

Does anyone else use that term? "Amateur Night" for New Year's?. Or is it a Chicago thing?
Here in Chicago/Midwest--on New Years you don't worry just about the drinking and driving around here, you have to worry about the drinking and driving on snow/sleet/ice.

Does anyone else use that term? "Amateur Night" for New Year's?. Or is it a Chicago thing?

I've never heard the term before, but I like it... Stay safe out there....

I'll be staying in since I don't want to drive the 45 miles and a Mountain Pass just to have a drink.

It's a chilly week, from 10-35, but it could be alot worse. We have about 4 inches on the ground, and the WIND is blowing (about 35 mph right now) .....brrrrrr. I'd love to know where the weather service has it's monitor around here, at midnight last night my gauge said 23, and the weather site said 4. I'll take mine thank you...

we have about 2 feet of snow on the ground, but its surprisingly mild out... it just keeps snowing and snowing... my parents live 2 hours away and have absolutely no snow...go figure haha

I'm in Vermont near the middle of the state & it is currently 25* & lightly snowing. Suppose to snow all day long but not much accumulation. Tomorrow is going to be a big storm with accumulation of 6-12". Of course tomorrow I have a hair appointment~~may have to cancel.

We have a beautiful sunny New Year's Day here in south central England
It is cold, there's still thick ice on puddles where the sun has not touched, but beautiful.
Clear blue sky. No snow.
