In Central Vermont & we did not get the big snowfall that was predicted. North of us got it all! Burlington got 25" per Yahoo Weather. Haven't checked the local news yet. I'm curious to see what they have to say.

Still lightly snowing with wicked winds. It is 10* @ 0800. Still in a winter storm advisory with winds forcasted to be up to 35 mph.

-20 F with the windchill -29 F. I have not left the house since New years! Northern tip of Lake Superior. Lots of snow, my two japanese lilac trees that I have spent the last 4 years pruning to the perfect shape snapped at the base from a combination of snow and rain on Christmas.

Oh Maggie, that is heartbreaking. Why is it that we seem to lose our favorites to bad weather and NEVER some stupid tree that you wish would fall down. Sorry to hear about the lilacs.

That is so sad to lose a tree you have cared for so closely.
I used to garden and plant special/unusual trees in my old house---lived there 23 years and some of my trees and plants were like a prized possession and when weather or something else destroyed them....just awful.

We had an ice storm here before Christmas that was so bad I actually took pictures to capture the moment.

These two pics-same tree, one view in Summer and the other hanging downward because it is covered with ice.

Your garden looks beautiful. It is especially tricky to garden here as we are classified Zone 3, but sometimes if it's sheltered I can get away with Zone 4. A couple of years ago we didn't get the snow cover we normally do, and I lost approx. half my perenials. But I looked at it on the bright side that I got to relandscape areas I wasn't really that fond of, and wanted to rip out anyways. This summer was really strange as well, as some of the annuals I planted that start blooming mid-June actually didn't start blooming until the first week of September because it was such a cool summer. Normally in our summer months we reach highs of 85-90 degrees, with the humidex making it over 100 but it stayed in the high 60's low 70's. The year before that we had massive flooding when we got over 60" of rain in one night. That was incredible to see natures fury. We didn't have any damage to our house, but the golf course down the road from us had some holes under 12 feet of water. We are up higher on the Nor'Wester mountain escarpment, so I didn't think it would effect us. It was crazy to see road culverts floating down the road.
It makes you wonder what exactly is happening with the environment.

We're supposed to be in the teens and 20's through Saturday...ick! Isn't it supposed to be mild in Dallas? Right.

That's what I thought!
My cousin lives in Houston and didn't they shut the town down about a month ago from the several inches of snow???

It's been a heck of a winter so far. We've had snow 4 times already with a total over 5". It's crazy! It's almost got us wishing for summer..lol.
