Re: 500 Lb. Man Needs Help to Lose Weight

Can I add my welcome to the others and as they gave you tons of advise to digest and commit to memory (LOL) but I alway have some too, glad you found us and hope that you stick with us.
Induction is really simple, at least our version.
Eat all the protein and fat that you need, steak, hamburgers, eggs, chicken (not coated) butter, salad dressings like Ranch and Blue Cheese are generally fine, just check the label. Mayo (not miracle whip) mustard, Olive oil, Cold Pressed Canola oil.
Good cheese, (not the processed stuff) is fine in moderation as is heavy cream, sour cream, cream cheese)
Its very important that you eat your vegetables, remembering that the most colorful ones have the most vitamins
DO NOT GO HUNGRY, EAT TIL YOUR SATISFIED else the plan will not work
ELIMINATE ANYTHING DIET FROM YOUR MENU, DIET COKES, DIET FOODS ARE LOADED WITH CARBS. ELIMINATE ANYTHING NOT NATURAL, DON'T EAT JUNK LOW CARB PRODUCTS EITHER. KEEP IT SIMPLE, NO LOW CARB SHAKES OR LOW CARB BARS OR ANYTHING THAT HAS INGREDIENTS THAT YOU CAN NEITHER READ NOR UNDERSTAND.
Its going to be a blast watching you shrink, so keep us posted.
Many folks believe that this board is one of the keys to their success........

Re: 500 Lb. Man Needs Help to Lose Weight

Welcome Ruben, I started the WOE (way of eating) because I was desperate, like Cleo I was considering weight loss surgery and thought I would give this "diet" one last try before going to the doctor, hey guess what it worked, and is still working.

The one bit of advice that I can offer that I think is vital is to come to ADBB (atkins diet bulletin board) every day, several times a day if you have to. It is a great place to ask questions, read success stories, check out before and after pictures, get support to make it every day. You can do this, know that you can, even if you don't believe it try it for two weeks, if it doesn't work at the end of 14 days what did you really lose, but if it does? Imagine, if it does then that means you have found the KEY, the key to losing weight.

Happy low carbing, welcome to the family, we're glad to have you.

            Ruben

You've had lots of advice, but I'd lik to add that this REALLY works. I started on 10 September this year at 288 lgs, and want to get to 135-140 lbs - so I needed to lose more than half of myself! In 10 weeks I've lost 45lbs! I lost 25 lbs in the first 2 weeks (Induction), and that has really inspried me to continue.

I eat all fresh food (nothing processed). Breakfast is a combination of bacon, egg, mushroom, minute steak - any or all, depending what is in the fridge and what I feel like. Lunch is a protein (meat/chicken/fish) and BIG salad - lettuce, carrot, green beans, snow peas, celery, and sometimes beetroot and/or pineapple bits. Dinner is protein and stir fried or steamed beggies (as lunch with yellow squash, zucchini, cauliflower etc. This works for me.

I'm NOT going hungry. I have so much energy I can hardly stay still. I started at the gym 4 weeks ago and go every weekday.

This WORKS. Be kind to yourself and start today. Use the food list links you've been given. At your start weight you'll have a big loss on Induction, and, beleive me, it will make you fell like you can do ANYTHING - and you can.

            Good Luck from Oz!

Re: 500 Lb. Man Needs Help to Lose Weight

Ruben as everyone has told you this way of eating does work. I failed to lose weight many times before doing low cal, low fat diets with exercise, but this WOE just simply worked for me. While you already have received excellent advice, here's my small addition. Get an image or an idea of why you want to lose the weight, and an image of what you don't like about the weight you are at -- negative feelings and all. AS you get tempted in the first few weeks or months to try something "off plan," bring those images or feelings up in your head. Decide which path you want to be on for that moment -- the one that leads ultimately to your goal or the one that leads to 500 or 600 pounds man or something worse.

It can certainly be done. There are countless examples on this board who have lost LOADS of weight (more than a couple tons combined the last time the Century Club started adding up their totals) on how to do this diet or Way of Living correctly. I look forward to seeing your successes as much as anyone else on this board. Welcome to ADBB!

Wow, you guys & gals are absolutely incredible!

Another one of my big motivational goals to lose this weight is to stop getting those "Oh my GOD, look how Fat he is" Looks from the general public. It is the worst feeling and people can be so rude. Allot of people make it Obvious when they look and allot of people try to be secretive about it, but I always seem to know they are talking about me.

On another note, I am happy to say I started the Atkins Diet yesterday and I WILL STICK TO THIS. I will check in here everyday.

So Low Carb Candies are no Good? I like those Russell Stover "Net Carb" Chocolate Mousse Medallions with Splenda. They claim to have 0.2 Net carbs per piece. If we can't have that, is there any other reccomendations for candy type snacks that are Low Carb?

Thanks So Much for Helping me

try to stay away from those things... if you need soemthing sweet, I usually go fot the Jell-o brand gelatin cups, or whip up a bit of heavy cream with splenda, or cream cheese with splends- but beware sometimes those things stall people!

                          Ruben

                          1. Make sure you have a usable digital picture of yourself and keep a photographic record. When you have made some progress, and when you are ready, post those two pictures (before and after) in your signature. Then we can all rejoice with you and pat you on the back. In the meantime state in your signature your present weight, and possibly a first target weight. Certainly state your height age and gender - it helps folk to target their advice.

                          2. Sign up for the men's forum - it's not particularly actice because us men are not very good at chatting, but it does mean if you want to ask any male only questions the forum is open to you.

                          3. It's a hard thing to say, but the faster you can make an end of your "sweet tooth", the better. I can't eat even eat cherry tomatoes anymore - they are just too sweet. Your taste will change remarkably quickly, especially if you avoid substitutes for the sweet things you used to enjoy (Notice I have already put that in the past tense for you.) Look for alternative treats. Have you tried Macadamia Nuts? They are so georgeous. They blow your mind away. I will sometimes treat myself to a pack of very good quality smoked salmon - far nicer that a packet of sugar fruit drops. Look for new eating patterns - not for low carb substitutes for your old ways.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
                          he said, 'Don't count calories.'

before you look for an alternative treat finsih your 14 day induction eating only the foods on your acceptable foods lists in chapter 11 of your DANDR.
once you move from their you can either add an ounce of nuts in extended induction or move to OWL and add nuts when you get to rung 3.

Remember Dr Atkins said desserts and sweets should be occaisonal treats not every day events.
remember too it was sweets and treats that helped get you where you are today. Dropping them and overcoming that addiction will do the most to help you get smaller and healthier the easiest.

                                Ruben

You can't have th candies on INducton, and a clean Induction will give you such a great kick start - you should lose a lot. Only weigh yourself once weekly, or if you can do it, at the end of 14 days (I succumbed - 7 kg week one and 4 week 2).
As you go on with this WOE you will lose your desire for sweets and candies. This comes from a chocoholic - I love the stuff, but tried a bit and found it so sickly I didn't want any more.
I've stuck a picture of how I want to look (gorgeous woman in swimsuit) from a catalogue on my mirror - I see me, and I see her, and there's no way I'll go and eat something 'illegal'.
Good luck. We're all for you.
