  • New to Atkins - can we do it? YES WE CAN!!

Hi, my name is Janet and i'm on my 3rd day of Induction. This is my first time ever in doing the Atkins diet. I have never been on a specific diet before but when i wanted to loose some weight i ate lots of veg and fruit and stayed away from bread. Growing up i was always a chubby child but when i got to my teens my weight yoyoed from 65 to 75 kilos (143 to 165 lbs) and i was quite pleased with that.

2 years ago i had my first child it was quite a though labour and ended up having a C section......since the birth till this present day my weight gradully went up to 90 kilos (198.4 lbs).......I have never been this heavy soooooo its about time i did something about it. I have read the good things about atkins and the bad and even though i may still feel a little sceptic about it, reading through this forum and seeing your pics gave me a huge motivation.

I am looking forward to share my experience and hopefully lots of weight loss, i will keep you updated on my progress, my ups and downs, my highs and low's......this Janet and here she goes

    Started Atkins diet:
    01/04/2007 - 90 kilos (198.4 lbs)
    04/04/2007 - 87 kilos (191.8 lbs)

Ok so I plan to weigh my self once a week but i feel lighter so i could not help but weigh my self this morning and the scales are saying 191.8lbs......wow i seem to have lost 6lbs wooohoooooooooo!! i'm really excited and thus will stay motivated. Thank you all for your entires.

TILL NEXT TIME, happy atkins to all.

    xx JANET xx

      hey scooter,

Thx for your support and your kind greetings.

I am going to do my best and try to make this my WOL too cause what i'm seeing i'm liking and it feels great. My son will turn 2 yrs next week and he's my JOY!! Its very difficult to see my Hubby and child eat what they want when they want , but its also difficult seeing my self in a pic or in the mirror so i have a choice and right now i'm sticking to it.

Well done on your 75lbs WEIGHT LOSS, keep up the good work, your pic says it all. Thank you so much for the links.....HA HA i had already given them a peek while reading other threads. I have read the book and i have also bought the addtional recipe book too but its really great to find other recipes here and on the net.

YOU are so right!! I was a lurker too but reading and seeing others people's threads gave me the strength to begin my weight loss journey. You and others like you are all an inspiration to beginners like me.

Oh, and dont worry u'll hear more of me...:P:P

      Take care

              ....Dear Friends,

I have a slight problem, well right now it seems big to me, HERE in Tiny Malta it seems we do not have splenda, they have other stuff like Sweet and Low etc etc......i have went to about 6 different supermarkets and NO splenda!! Plus there is only one place where i can go and buy some Soy flour, i guess its better than nothing.

My mum is going to the UK in a weeks time. Will she find Splenda for me anywhere in any supermarket over there.

              thanks

Re: New to Atkins - can we do it? YES WE CAN!!

I once ordered a lot of granular splenda (for baking) from the US... and got it in the end, but with lots of customs problems. You probably wouldn't have those in Malta because it's just Italy that is notoriously bad. However, the place I ordered it from no longer stocks it. I think you can order it from Netrition (if you google it you'll get the site... probably netrition.com or something).
You can order the little sachets from in the UK at http://www.lowcarbmegastore.com/ but they don't stock the granular splenda there. Your mum could bring some back for you though. She would be able to buy granular splenda in health food stores there, I know as my SIL has just brought me four boxes.
                      Hope this helps.

Greetings Babywoogie! Yes, you CAN do it.

Splenda - maybe someone from UK can post you a large box of Splenda Tablets - the sort in the plastic dispenser box - that must get you the most slpenda for the postage cost. If the tablets cant be dissolved in the food, crush a tablet or two between two teaspoons and dissolve in water.

Splenda in the preferred but not the only Atkins legal sweetener. Saccharin is also allowed. You must be able to find that in some form. Some varieties of Hermesetas are saccharin based (Avoid Hermesetas Gold or the granules - they are NOT Atkins legal)

I use Hermesetas Liquid or Splenda in granular or tablet form.

The Hermesetas website shows standard Hermesetas saccharin tablets are available in Malta, but you must be able to find some generic saccharin.

Good look! Be a big loser!!
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
                        he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Hi Janet! Welcome to the board. Malta, huh? I bet you win for being from the smallest place. You're the first person I've ever met from Malta! I'm sure you will be able to locate some Splenda soon. Other than that, how's your eating going?

You might want to start yourself a journal in Journal Chats, or join the Women's Forum (you must get admission to that by PM-ing Lauren or richt). Make yourself at home around here and you will meet tons of friendly people with loads of support and advice.

                            hey guys,

Thank you for all your comments, much appreciated, if I ever feel like giving up like i do right now i know where i have to come cause, only people who are doing this WOE can really understand some frustrations.

First of all, Malta is indeed very tiny but for the island it is we surely have lots of Supermarkets and Luckily enough i found one which SELLS SPLENDA......WHIIHOOOOO!! It was kinda of funny cause as soon as i saw it on the Shelf i ran towards it, my face lit up, my eyes popped out and I shouted YESSSSSSSS!! this women just stared at me as if i was crazy....LOLOLOL my efforts of running around more super markets paid off!!

i have a question that acutally only a women can answer to........right now i'm waiting for my monthly menstrual cycle and even though i still feel light, the scales went up and i'm a ittle depressed as it feels that my efforts this past week did not effect. We tend to get water retention before and during these days, I am right in thinking that this is effecting my weight loss right now!!

                            hey Silly girl,

My eating seems to be going fine, actually since i started this WOE i have been eating more, cause i dont really get hungry. For example, eating in the morning is not really something that i enjoy and am glad to stay without breakfast but now i'm taking scrambles eggs or bacon, of turkey and cheese and 1 decaf coffee than in the afternoon i take tuna with soft cheese, or a salad and in the even i take chicken or some other protein with veg. How am i doing? I could keep a journal but with a 2 year boy its hard enough finding some time to write here let alone..LOL....i try my best

Labarum weigh to go on your weight loss and thks for checking out about splenda in malta!! xx

                            I'll keep you all posted
