Re: Hi I am new and would like to join
Renie,
Very, very good! Your veggie intake has definitely improved. How about breakfast? I find that celery with full-fat cream cheese usually does the trick... or how about some peppers and onions in that omelet? And don't worry about the egg yolks... use them all! It really won't harm you... I promise. There have been several studies showing that people who consume high-cholesterol diets on Atkins actually improve their own cholesterol! I know it sounds phenomenol. If you don't believe me, check it out yourself on atkins.com or even Google it. Personally, both my cholesterol and high blood pressure have gone down dramatically since I've started Atkins... and I have 2 eggs (yolks included) for breakfast every morning. Plus, having the full egg helps me maintain my caloric intake above the 1,500 threshold.
Now, about those chicken nuggets. Please tell me they weren't breaded!? I take it they came pre-packaged? If so, you must read the list of ingredients and not simply rely on the nutritional info. If "sugar" (or any of its other names) appears anywhere in the first three lines of the list of ingredients, you should definitely avoid them. Companies are allowed to round down the numbers they put on the nutritional info of their products. So, even if it says 0g sugar, it may actually be 0.99g sugar. If you eat enough servings, that can really add up! Every carb counts and no carb can go unnoticed if we are to do Atkins properly and be successful.
Very good in telling them not to add the lemon sauce. You just never know what they put in it! Out here, Wal-Mart always coats their rotisserie chickens in some type of flour! I can't believe these companies can get away with it. It is disgusting.
Your water intake is great! Keep it up. And remember that a cup of coffee is no substitute for a glass of water.
So, the explanation on the fat... the way ketosis works is that once your body rids itself of its carb stores (after approximately 3 days), your body starts burning fat. This is what's happening to you right now. When you normally consume fat and carbs together, the fat will go directly to your fat cells as your body uses the carbs for energy first. When the carbs aren't present, your body will go straight to the fat for fuel. This is a good thing. However, without this fat, your body won't be prompted to burn your own fat. Think of it as motivation. If you eat fat, your body will burn it up in no time and then turn to your own body for a supplementary supply.
If you don't eat fat, two negative things can happen: first, you won't burn your own fat as efficiently; second, you won't feel as full, which may trigger you to fall off the diet and binge like there's no tomorrow! Trust me, it has happened to me many a time. Feeling starved is not a fun thing... it should be left to the low-fat dieters! You're an Atkineer... you can afford to eat all that fat and still witness your own fat melt off of you! Ideally, 65% of your entire caloric intake should come from fat. Yes, that's right! 65%. The way it goes, you should get at least 65% from fat, 30% from protein, and 5% from carbs. Have you checked out fitday.com yet? It really does help you keep track of it all.
Simply put, a low-fat version of Atkins will not work. Make sure that from now on, that meat and salad dressing you buy are the full-fat variety. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but we have been spoon-fed this perception that low-fat diets are the only way to go. Where did it get us? Well, at least here in America 65% of the people are either overweight or obese... and I recently heard that Australia superceded those statistics. We need to move away from that ideology if we are ever to succeed in the battle of the bulge. And is it an easy fight? No. These companies spend billions of dollars a year trying to convice us poor consumers that low-fat is the only way to go. It isn't.
As for the mango chutney, well... just keep going! It's not a good thing. Maybe an extra-long walk tonight?
Keep at it! You're doing great!

And remember, even though the scale may not register a decrease in weight, that doesn't mean you're not losing inches.
