    Re: Doin' the introducin' thingie

I am glad you have found something that you like to do Jaxmama but it is important to tell people to follow the rules of the book. That is what we are here for. As a spotlight moderator I am very insistent that people who give advice here to brand new members try their best to do that.
I think it is not hard to use fitday and still find net carbs - just a simple substraction. But maybe if it gets too confusing I would recommend All Things Food and Diet - FatSecret it will have a special carb attention area for low carbers.

Yes, go by the book. Never said not to. But when moving onto OWL and other RUNGS the veggies can get lost (I know personally). So I have focused on what the carb count is on the right side of the page on Fitday for my veggies.

      Today's numbers:

Gross: 37.9 19.2 from veggies (does not count my avocado)
      Fiber: 14.6 ?? from veggies
      Net: 23.3

      Thanks!

Wow! Again I want to say how great it is to get all these comments As for varying net carb results depending on source, I think I inadvertently went just a bit over yesterday so back to playing safe today - hmmmm - and trying to think of ways to take Atkins to work brown-bagging style.

I'm intrigued by flax seed - it seems to be a carbs in-carbs out fibre thingy - sounds good. Anyone use it?

Love arugula - apparently NO carbs (LOL) unless you're earing like an acre of the stuff.

Surely you have to count an avocado in your net carb total? I'm planning 1/2 an avocado a day as a snack on workdays so I'm assuming I have to count.

The other snack will be celery cream cheese or cold beef (50 g)wrapped in lettuce

        Take care out there!

          How do you define "lacking"?

If you eat 20 grams of carbohydrate, with 12 coming from vegetables (most)... and out of these 20 grams, 5 are fiber (all from vegetables), then you will be eating 7 net carbs from vegetables and 8 net carbs from other stuff. So you would be lacking, according to Dr. Atkins, because you wouldn't be getting most of your net carbs from Induction vegetables.

If one follows the 2002 plan correctly, then one is supposed to count net carbs when making sure one is getting most of one's net carbs from vegetables.

Plus fitday does not give youa net amount which is a flaw in their system.
It's not a flaw in their system. Their way of labeling is correct.

You might like FatSecret more. It does the math for you.

Going by that you can be undereating your net carbs from vegetables though.

Gross: 37.9 19.2 from veggies (does not count my avocado)
          Fiber: 14.6 ?? from veggies
          Net: 23.3
If you click on every vegetable in your menu, you can find the net carbs in the amount you ate. Then just add up the numbers and you have the net carbs from vegetables alone.

I have a 1/4 of an avocado on the menu today too and did not count that in with my veggies, just fyi.

Georgiana, I will have to look into fatsecret, thanks.
              I have on today's menu

              1.5 cups romaine lettuce
              1/2 tomato
              7 baby leaves spinach
              1/2 cup cabbage (before cooked)
              1 cup green beans
              8 sticks celery
              1 oz onion
              3 slices of pickle

Maybe I went overboard, but I'd rather go over on veggies.

Actually, if you count net, you get more vegetables, since you're not counting the fiber.

As to Fitday's "flaw", if you enter your vegetables first, then you can look in the Calories Eaten Today part and see the NET carbs.

11.13 veggies out of my 23.2 net carbs.

                      That task was painstaking.

                        Yep. I make muffins.

It has to be ground flax though, not just "seed".

I can add more cabbage tonight then although I will be over my 25 limit. No problem!

                              Re: Doin' the introducin' thingie

Ok, I think someone is messing with me telling me I am not eating induction level. The book says:

"You can eat approximately three loosely packed cups of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables (see Acceptable Foods). "

Let's say for 14 days I ate 2 cups of romaine lettuce and 1 cup on cabbage. In fitday that is a gross total of 8.3 carbs, net 4.1. So just less 25% of my 20 grams is coming from vegetables. That is what the book says. If someone ate 3 cups of romaine a day the amount of veggie carbs would be even less, but it's going by the book. Yes I know there are other types of lettuce.

I followed by the book the last week and that's what I did, kept to 3 cups of veggies a day from the acceptable food list. I must have missed the part where it said you could have more than 3 cups before OWL RUNG 1?????

So I am totally confused on how TODAY I am getting 11.2 net carbs of veggies of the 23.2 I will be consuming today I am allowed on RUNG 1. That's 48% of my net carbs is through veggies!!!!!!! That's actually 7 more grams than last week so techinically I went over by 2 grams for RUNG 1. Bad, Jaxmama!

I have to plain disagree to the fact I am not getting enough veggies, again, no disrespect.

Seriously, if I am missing something please refer me to the page in the book and I will read up on it again.

                              Thanks much!
