    Re: Coconut Oil

LOL, omg, Sunny_One. You will never believe what I did. I read your post and thought, okay, I'll try the oil in my tea. BUT I didn't read where you said a teaspoon so I put in the whole 3 Tablespoons and managed to get it down, but it's floating on the top, about an inch thick....and I'm wondering how in the world anyone manages to get it down.

Then I read your post with a teaspoon in your tea, which makes much more sense.

Carole, eat your yogurt, I'm of the opinion that it's fine. Also the cottage cheese.

The brand that I have is called Spectrum, its organic and cold pressed. Its also expired, but I am eating it anyway. Still looks and tastes like coconut. I think I got it at Trader Joes, but can't remember

I should be glowing by the morning.

Lynne, I am aghast!!! I can't imagine chugging down 3 T of coconut oil!!!

I bet you spent plenty of time in the bathroom last night!!! YIKES!

I have REALLY been pushing the coconut oil the last 2 days. I'm sure it's a combination of things, but I am betting it had a big bearing on my 2.8 pound loss.

          I am just ecstatic!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you bet I am going to continue to drink it in my coffee and tea!!!

            Re: Coconut Oil

Hmm. Okay, so I thought this whole eating coconut oil thing was really disgusting when I heard about it the first time. So I gave it a good ol' fashioned try. I hated it. So I couple months later, I tried again... and actually was okay with eating like, a spoon(ish) bit at a time (NOT a Tablespoon at a time though). So I've been "snacking" on it throughout the day for the past week or so. I am not sure whether it has helped with the weight loss (it has been taking me forever to lose anything this time around), but it *definitely* goes towards killing cravings/hunger pretty much immediately. I started keeping a jar at work, when I start feeling hungry and don't have time to hunt food, I eat some... It's really good for that.

Come to think of it, my nails *are* better now... I am not sure about hair/skin.. I saw my stylist on Sat, so I feel like he made my hair perfect.

My dil sent me an article about this saying it promotes weight loss. I haven't tried it, but will.

I am also down Sunny.... It just couldn't be the oil...could it????
If it is, there is going to be a run on coconut oil and we might have to buy stock

                  Re: Coconut Oil

I doubt it's only the coconut oil, but maybe in combination with watching our WOE it might be giving us an extra boost?

Stock in coconut oil might be the only thing that goes up in this economy!

Okay, ladies, I got some of that Wally World Rexall Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. It is my understanding it helps weight loss too.

Hubby brought it home late last night after work and I tried just a tiny bit in my coffee and gagged.... I don't think I like oily coffee. LOL!

I need to find another way to ingest it. I am not sure I can just eat it off the spoon either. It reminds me of lard.

                      Help!

You can also cook with it. Just don't use high heat. You are not supposed to let it get up to the smoking point.

I cook my eggs in it in the morning and fried my pork chops in it last night. So you don't have to eat it off the spoon or in your coffee.

I bought some from wally world too (although it's not the organic, it's whatever's in their grocer aisle...)

Yesterday and today I put just a tsp of it in my tea in the morning (i don't drink a lot of coffee but instead drink herbal teas) - and I always put a tbsp of heavy cream in my tea as well - it tasted normal to me - meaning i didn't notice the oily taste to my tea.

I too am too afraid to try it right off the spoon just yet, though...

Kerianne, I think that using it with cream is probably why it doesn't bother me, either. Without the cream, it would seem pretty strange!

The "dosage" I've seen on other boards that it takes to make a difference is 3 tablespoons a day. I'm trying to work up to that.

I got some yesterday and it almost gags me off the spoon. There was a day, not too long ago, that I'd eat butter straight off the spoon (and loved it), so what's different here? It's not unpleasant tasting, it's just the thought of that much lard going down at once.

I'm going to use it in place of olive oil for cooking. Any other ideas on how to incorporate it into our woe? Can it be bought in liquid form, to use in with vinegar?

                                Re: Coconut Oil

It's actually not "lard" as that would be from a pig. Since this comes from a coconut, it does not apply.

It can be used in place of butter for many situations, including something sweet to mix it with a little splenda. If you try off a spoon but not the entire spoonful at once I think it's much better.

I have put it in coffee/tea but agree that with either it is better to put with cream, and even then, it is hard to tell whether you are actually drinking all that you put in since some would stick to the cup..
