Carole, the numb mouth is definitely not normal.

    Please get it checked ASAP!

      Re: I re-start 3/16/09

I'm wondering if it's something to do with my diabetes because I have 2 fingertips that are as cold as ice most of the time...those are the 2 fingers that I have bad arthritus in my first knuckle....also 2 toes on my left foot feel like they are cramping and turning up. My blood glucose numbers have been pretty good the past couple weeks so I don't know...but it is an odd feeling. The numbness in my mouth starts just about the time I finish dinner. I'll have to ask about that when I go to the dr next time.

You might call their office and leave a message for the doctor.

It sounds scary to me.... and I want you to be around here for a LONG time.

I googled mouth numbness and there was only one hit and it didn't say much. I think your toes curling up sounds like a charley horse. Are you taking calcium and a good multi. That might help

            Re: I re-start 3/16/09

I take liquid calcium + Vit D pills every morning and a good multivitamin plus extra B complex. The toes are definately a charley horse effect -- I've had them in my legs for years.

Today I haven't had any numbness in my mouth so I'm hoping maybe it was something sort of weird going on and has now passed, but I'll keep it in mind and watch for it to start again.

I was so tempted to get on the scale this morning and check my progress (or lack thereof) but didn't -- I said I wasn't going to weigh until the end of induction, so I'll give it another week.

            Today I had wonderful meals!!!

Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs w/ham & scant amt of cheese plus cut up red peppers (yum), coffee w/splenda and water....

Lunch: egg salad (2 eggs), 2 oz red pepper cut into strips to scoop the egg salad with and 2 slices of cheese made into cheese chips (Sadie loves these...she begs when she knows I have them...so I had a couple less than I counted, but that's ok)

Dinner: Fried chicken (no coating - slow cooked in small amt of oil), leftover turnips (less than 1/2 cup but counted as such) and 8 asparagus spears w/olive oil drizzled on top. That is cooking as I'm typing and it smells SOOOO good!!!

Rode my bike 10 miles this afternoon - wanted to mow the backyard but it started sprinkling before I was able to get the mower started so I'll do that tomorrow barring any more rain. The front yard doesn't need mowing yet but the backyard is bad looking because it's so high.

Here's a pic of my bike with the table -- you'll notice my water jug, DANDR book and the remote....I need a seat with more padding...I'm numb!!!!! Numbness...different part of the body...ROFL!!!!

              Hi, Carole,

Glad you are having a good day. Your menu sounds wonderful!

And I really like your bike table arrangement!

But, I agree.... that seat has to be a killer after 10 miles!

                Re: I re-start 3/16/09

dinner was wonderful. After I took mom & Sadie for a 1/2 mile walk (all mom can do since she's been sick). I put 6 pepper spice, onion powder, celery powder and Nature's Seasonings on my chicken...WOW it tasted so good. I'm trying to use more spices since my tastebuds have changed. I put vegetable seasoning (mostly dill) and olive oil on the asparagus and microwaved it until it was tender...it's the first good fresh asparagus I've seen - glad I bought it!! The creamed turnips were leftover from last night but still tasted good. I was going to have some green beans also, but I was at my limit for the day so I didn't. I'm going to have to get another rutabaga the next time we go to the store...yum! Wish I could have parsnips but not for a long time!

I need to figure out tomorrow's meals...it's so much easier when you have a full stomach! When I go look at menu ideas and I'm hungry its murder!!!

Yes Sunny -- the bike seat feels like it's a part of me after 10 miles! It takes about 20 minutes for everything to wake up!!! LOL

                  Re: I re-start 3/16/09

we are getting our taxes done in a couple hours so I'm going to post this early. Got up this morning and mowed the lawn - it looks wonderful now! I wore my pedometer and found out that I get a 1 mile walk while mowing...that's great!

Breakfast was the usual: 2 scrambled eggs w/ham, red pepper bites and hot sauce - scant cheese (just enough to see it but barely enough to taste it). Coffee w/splenda and 30oz water. Took DH to work so I drank another 25 oz while I was driving home.
After mowing I drank another 30 oz jug of water.

Lunch was delicious! I even took a picture: 3 oz pastrami, 1 oz swiss cheese melted on it, rolled up, 1/2 Tbsp mayo to dip it in - 2 oz raw zucchini, 1 deviled egg (leftover) 4 radishes, 1 cup romaine lettuce (some of the radish & zucchini chopped in it) topped with Hidden Valley Ranch. And my favorite beverage: 30 oz of water.

After we get the taxes done we'll go out to eat - Lonestar Steakhouse sounds good to me and perfectly legal!!

                        Re: I re-start 3/16/09

We ended up going to Tuckers Steak House down the street from where we use to live - the beef is all raised on their farm, butchered and brought in - never frozen -- plus unless you request specific spices on the meat nothing is added (which is a huge plus). I had an 8oz filet minon that was tender enough to cut with a fork and melted in my mouth. Also had a small salad w/ranch dressing (my own so I knew it was legal) and steamed veggies - 3/4 cup broccoli and green beans mostly - I think I saw 1 small piece of asparagus and a strip of red pepper. I put butter on the veggies and also the steak along with pepper. It was so much better than a chain steak house because I know exactly what was on the steak and in the other food.

Ok - it's after midnight and I need to get to bed!!

I haven't had a steak like that since we visited friends who raised their own beef in Wisconsin in the 70's!

Did any of you see the news article on cutting back on red meat? It was on CNN last night and CBS this morning. Someone posted it to a thread this morning but I can't remember where.

Anyway, I think I'm going to cut down and eat more fish. It didn't say to stop eating it, just to keep the portions small because of heart and cancer risks.

What do the rest of you think?

They bring out the "eat less red meat" story about twice a year -- I still believe within reason you should be able to eat it. We don't have red meat more than twice a week at most - I do know it takes longer for red meat to get through my system but it's always nice to have it.

My opinion - I will continue to eat red meat - regardless of the latest news headline - remember a few years ago when eggs were bad for you, or fish, or coffee, or .............. if we listened to everything on the news we wouldn't eat anything. I'm sure one day you won't be able to buy it in the stores.
