  • So what kind of kitchen gadgets do you have?

I was puttering around the kitchen and using a few different gadgets and it got me to wondering how many and what kind everyone else has (toasters don't count unless it's a toaster oven).

We have 1 convection oven, 1 pizza cooker, 1 rice cooker, 1 older slow cooker, 1 pressure cooker, 1 dehydrator, 1 food processor, 1 pasta maker, 1 mixer, 1hand mixer, 2 roasters (1 huge, 1 small), 1 electric skillet, 1 electric wok, 1 slow cooker (6quarts that can be turned into two 3 quarts), 2 brick (or maybe clay) roasters, 1 magic bullet.

Heh. WE have to many toys.. and this doesn't include or play gadgets like the pocket makers and zesters. :yikes

    1 Kitchen Aid Mixer
    1 Food Processor
    1 Blender
1 Coffee Machine (only use it for company)
    1 Ice Cream Machine (electric)
1 Ice Cream Machine (hand-crank---inherited this from an auntie)
    1 Mandolin
1 Coffee Grinder (electric---I use it for nuts and seeds)
1 novelty hand crank Coffee Grinder (that really works, but it's an "object d'art" in my kitchen)
    1 Rice Cooker
    1 George Foreman Grill
    1 Belgian Waffle Iron
    1 Regular Waffle Iron
    1 Ice shaver
    1 cooking scale (electric)

Smaller stuff includes but not limited to...
    1 mortar and pestle (marble)
    1 mortar and pestle (ceramic)
    1 wooden lemon reemer
    1 hard boiled egg slicer
    1 melon baller
    1 microplane grater
    Different sized ice cream scoops
And a drawer or two of other assorted gadgets.

Don't get me started on my baking paraphenilia....I'm a recovering home-baker and I have, umm er, alot of stuff. :sarcasm

I have the standard stuff. But I have to tell you about my new favorite kitchen gadget.

I have a hard time eating chicken breast because they are so thick. I used to get the butcher to run it thru the tenderizer for me. But they stopped doing that because the pieces get stuck in the machine and then they have to clean it before they can run beef thru it -- which is what it really is for.

Yes I can do it myself with one of those little hammers or one of those rolly things, but I really dont have that much strength when I get home from work and all that seems to take so long.

So ........ I went on ebay and searched for meat tenderizer. I found this thing that looks like two rollers with spikey things on them that you place on the edge of the counter and run the meat thru. Its amazing! It is the BEST thing I've ever bought!!

Waring Pro Deep Fat Fryer (supposedly the best)

            Kenmore Stand Mixer
            Food Scale
Old (15 year old wedding present) blender

Nursey, it's a good thing I have 2 kitchens in this house. The former owners were a Jewish family, so they had a Kosher kitchen and a "dairy" kitchen. :yes

The house is a typical split-level 1960s home. The "upstairs" kitchen was the dairy kitchen (I think)---totally 1965. The kitchen has a little dining room area off to one side. Pre-Atkins this was my "baking" kitchen. The "downstairs" kitchen was alittle more modern. From what I gather, it was originally a utility room with a washing sink, a stove, refrigerator and freezer, a counter with cabinets and a dining table. Then sometime in the early 90s they re-did the downstairs of the house, rearranging it. So the downstairs kitchen is an open kitchen with a dining area. They put in more cabinets and counterspace too.

I used to be gadget girl, but I've either sold or am going to sell the yogurt maker, cookie press, dehydrator, rosette irons and the bread machine before we move (I'm keeping the cookie cutters and cake decorating supplies because they were my mother's).

This leaves me with a kitchenaide mixer and a blender and a microwave.

I like simplicity in my life. :^)

If you lived near me, I'd give it to you Pau! It's already gone! I love my kitchenade. It has a lot of attachments, and I use it a lot. I loved the bread machine, but making low-carb breads just ain't happening, and the last 2 loaves of whole grain bread went moldy. Soooooooooo, buh bye mr bready machino!
