70 Minutes done for today. I am only one week into this challenge and I have already walked more this month than I did last month.

sorry wannab I missed that I have long legs and I have been treamill walking for over 3 yrs now. when I started I was doing 2MPH and thought I was Rocky when I did 20 mim. now going slower then 4MPH I walk off the front of the treadmill if it is flat. I have to go 7.5 MPH on a flat treadmill to get my heart rate up in my target zone.

It is funny cause when i tried to do the C25K challenge last yr running at 3.5 mph for 5 min got my heart rate up but it caused great pain in my knees and when i ask my doc about it he ask me why I wanted to run slower then I could walk? SO I will be one of those penguin wannabes and be just a walker

I really don't understand how you can do it. I see people running at 6.5 and they seem to be going pretty fast. Wow!

Re: Jan 2006 Treadmill Trekies Topic

the definition of walking is you don't lift your leg off the ground until the other one lands and you are supposed to do it straightlegged but I don't have good form and mine a slightly bent on ther landing. Lower your incline and you will be amazed how much faster you can walk on the flat treadmill. I started out doing my HIIT with the treadmill flat and was using my heart rate monitor to tell me if I was going fast enough for the intense part. if I didn't get it to the intensemark them I upped the speed .5 MPH and moved faster. I can tell you the first time I did 6.0MPH I thought I was going to fall off the back and grabbed the hand rails ( that was when i discovered holding on lowered my heart rate 4 points for the same speed) to finish but with practice soon I was needing to up it to 6.5MPH. i was going 7.5 for the speedy part and 5 for the slow part when the fellow next to me ask what i was doing and I confidnetly told him HIIT and he laughed and told me I wasn't and ask me if I wanted to know how he knew I wasn't. I answered sure and he told ne I was nose breathing the whole time and if I was really HIITing I would have my tongue hanging out my mouth when I finished each unit. I knew that but had got complacent over the month of NOV since I was flying speedwise. he suggested I slow the speed and up the incline and I started my billygoat workouts with the speed on 5 and the incline on 5 and moved from their. Each time I get trained to the incline and spped I up the speed until I get to 7 again and then i up the incline and lower the speed and train that incline. I've upped the time doing the high intensity part to 3 min now cause i don't need to lose any more fat and have been holding at 7/7, but if I wanted to up my carbs I'd have to increase all units again. I can slow down to 4.5 MPH and up the incline all the way and walk but that isn't really a challnege and puts real strain on my damaged achillies tendons so Iwill stick with the holding pattern.

I don't have a treadmill.. does it technically have to be a treadmill or could I join this with my gazelle, since it's like walking or running and it counts miles? Just wondering, not sure I could handle another place to keep track of, but I've been thinking about it.

I can't find Kricket, I think she is wherever the stupid remote to the TV has disappeared to, I'm going to check the couch. BRB.

and yoy should be wannebe. How long you been treadmilling? if you cna up your speed by .1MPH try doing a few 5 min walks at a .1 faster spped once you are warmed up. At first you are going to fell like you are falling off the back but once you get used to thst speed you will think it is pretty easy until it goes up .1 again. see how much faster you can handle it that way once you find you comfortable faster seep start in your regular speed and dial it up to your faster speed once your are warmed up to your normal spped. In 2 weeks you will be doing 5PM and working on 5.5 . if you are going with your toes barely on the back and your arms draped on the rails holding on for dear life you are going too fast. At some point you will have to decide if you want more spped or more incline and settle
