4 flights to the bedroom means some stair climbing! You must've had great leg muscles, Jill!

Here, one can just start by avoiding the lifts (elevators for you Americans!). That's more or less how I started. But it got contagious and I got an aerobic step to get to the summit of the higher mountains. Never would have made Everest without that. No longer use it now (have replaced that with another exercise routine), but still avoid elevators like the plague.
    Before and after:

    PLEDGING FLIGHTS
Completed: 1st set of buildings and mountains (Everest,M.Blanc & Kilimanjaro, twice); Tower Masts & Chimneys; More virtual buildings; Challenger's Choice x 2 (volcanos and mountains on Mars). Currently climbing: Mount Snowdon again: 416/475

Start 10 Jan 2005. Maintenance since Aug. 2005.

Well, I'm now out of the windy city and back to the heat of Dubai: Now climbing "Burj Dubai"... which is still under construction! Help!! What happens when I move from what's already constructed to what's projected??? It could be one loooooonnnnnnnggg fall down. I think I'll take my bungee cord along this time!

        CONGRATULATIONS, SAL!

that's a good suggestion on the bungee cord. there's so many exposed beams and WATCH OUT for the guys working up there! don't let 'em bump you off the side!

let me see.... Burj Dubai is the last climb of the set! you're almost done!

i've been looking over some climbs. i think i'll tackle MOUNT KOSCIUSKO which is in Australia. it's 7310 feet which equals out to 975 flights. this will be climb 1 of 3 for the Challengers Choice.

              happy climbing!

I'm new to this thread, and I don't get the "feet x 2= steps"

what are we talking about here?

edit: oh nevermind! you mean the feet in height that a building or mountain, etc...is. I thought it meant feet that you walk..I'm like "that can't be right!"

I've never done this challenge, so I printed off the 3 page deal, and I'm going to start with the millenium dome. I can just take the stairs at work...not sure how many flights that will be per day, I'll find out.

Am I doing this right? How do I get a graphic? If i complete the millenium dome do i get one, or do i have to do a series of buildings/mountains?

I'm plugging away eratically... with the heat, some days the elevator won Hope to finish up the set before too long though and then move to another Challenger's choice.

                              Hello Fellow Climbers!!

I would like to join you in you stair climb challenge as well!! I actually have already started, but just have to figure out how to apply what I've done.

Jo just an update for you.. July 20th was 10 Flights and today July 21st I did 33 Flights! ~phew~ It was laundry day and instead of taking the elevator, I made the choice to take the stairs up. It wasn't easy by any means as my weight is really taking a toll on me and my asthma. I was sweating and gasping for air by the time I hit the 5th level and still had one more to go. On one of my trips back up, on level 2 I said screw it and went and took the elevator. I went out tonight at 11pm and when I came back, I said hey why not get one last set in and be able to boost my Flight total up.. so I did! *pats herself on the back* hahaha

Ok so anyways.. I can't print these sheets off as none of the printers in my home are hooked up. (no ink either) Does that mean I need to write it all out or just make a chart like the one on page #3?

I'm also severally confused in regards to how I'm suppose to calculate what I do. Is it ok to be just counting the levels one does or are we suppose to be actually counting each and every step we make?

Let me throw this out there.. since I have done a total of 43 "flights", does that mean if I made Big Ben, England 623 steps 42 flights my first challenge. . that I would have enough to have completed it with 1 to put towards my next challenge?

Well with that all said.. I look forward to figuring this all with your help of course, and I wish you all great success's this week!

Ohh and Jo. . I saw a badge (photo) that said something about being a participant of this challenge. . are we aloud to add that on our profiles?

Thanks for your time and help.

okay sassy........ first business is to say WELCOME TO THE CHALLENGE! :wave

now, lets see if we can clear some things up for you so you are climbing without any problems or worries. i'll be answering in blue. this really is not a hard thing. it can be overwhelming but if you just deal with the climbing, sal and i can guide you the rest of the way.

Jo just an update for you.. you made the effort on some of your trips and that is a VERY GOOD START! please don't keel over carrying laundry. when you are tired and can't use the stairs, by all means, use the elevator. and kudos for taking the flights instead of the elevator when you arrived back home. you're already addicted! LOL
when some of us started, we were doing the huffing and puffing after 5 flights.

Ok so anyways.. I can't print these sheets off as none of the printers in my home are hooked up. (no ink either) Does that mean I need to write it all out or just make a chart like the one on page #3?

don't worry about the calculations per day, per week. we used those to start with but within a day or two, you'll be on your own schedule. the main thing you need is the names of the buildings/mountains and the number of flights.

no printer... no problem. there are a couple ways to do this.
                                1. i can send you the list of buildings and mountains listing the flights via pm. when you get it, you can create a file called SAVE. you can move the pm to your SAVE file and then refer to it anytime you need it.
                                2. i can post everything here but you'll have to make note of the post so you can refer to it when needed.
                                3. you can start a journal in the Journal Stats forum and copy/paste what i provide.
OR AND THIS REQUIRES ME TO DO SOME EXTRA CREDIT WORK but is very doable..... i can make a chart and upload it into the gallery. then anybody can get to it anytime. that actually might be the better solution since some of our stuff is already there. fix it once, for all.
i will guide you in any one of these, whichever seems easiest to you.

I'm also severally confused in regards to how I'm suppose to calculate what I do. Is it ok to be just counting the levels one does or are we suppose to be actually counting each and every step we make?
don't let any of this confuse you. you do not have to count every step. each flight, in standard everyday living has 15 steps. in that case, just keep track of the flights.
example: i have a flight of stairs in my house. i have pennies in a basket at the top of my stairs and each time i come upstairs i take a penny from one basket and put it in another.

you don't need to worry about the Challengers Choice calculations yet. lets get the basics down and when the time comes, we'll help you with the Challengers Choice.

Let me throw this out there.. since I have done a total of 43 "flights", does that mean if I made Big Ben, England 623 steps 42 flights my first challenge. . that I would have enough to have completed it with 1 to put towards my next challenge?
you understand perfectly. yes, since you have done 43 flights, you have finished Big Ben, with one left over. and yes, carry that one to the next thing you climb. CONGRATS ON FINISHING YOUR FIRST BUILDING!

and since you have finished Big Ben, i've added that to my spreadsheet so your total adds in to the others and so i can tell when you have finished a whole set of climbs. after a whole set, you get a cool award.

Ohh and Jo. . I saw a badge (photo) that said something about being a participant of this challenge. . are we aloud to add that on our profiles?
yes, you can use the pledging flights graphic to show you are participating in this challenge. you can copy/paste the graphic into your signature. when you finish a set of climbs, you can add the award.

okay, what needs to be explained further? pitch me questions and i'll do my best to answer.
