  • April Calories Burnt Challenge

Here's the new thread for the calories burnt challenge.

    DISCLAIMER
DANDR Chapter 11 Frequently Asked Question

There is no need to count calories. The Atkins Nutritional Approach counts grams of carbohydrates instead of calories.

Although there is no need to count calories, they do matter. Gaining weight results from taking inmore calories than you expend through exercise, thermogenesis (the body's own heat production) and other metabolic functions. Research has shown that on a controlled carbohydrate program, more calories are burned than in a low-fat/high carb diet, so there is a certain metabolic advantage to the controlled carb approach. But understand that this does not give you license to gorge.

                              Re: April Calories Burnt Challenge

What are all of you using to track your calories burned? I'm getting wildly different results depending on the site I'm using. fitday seems to be lowballing everything, whereas the site my gym uses seems to be really high.

I walked 4.5 miles today on a somewhat hilly area and am getting anywhere from 315-970 calories burned. How am I suppose to make a judgment call on that?

                              Edited to add:
Based on a calculation I found at the Mayo clinic site, I'm posting 820 calories burned.
