  • June Calories Burnt Challenge

Here's the new thread for June.

    DISCLAIMER
DANDR Chapter 11 Frequently Asked Question

There is no need to count calories. The Atkins Nutritional Approach counts grams of carbohydrates instead of calories.

Although there is no need to count calories, they do matter. Gaining weight results from taking inmore calories than you expend through exercise, thermogenesis (the body's own heat production) and other metabolic functions. Research has shown that on a controlled carbohydrate program, more calories are burned than in a low-fat/high carb diet, so there is a certain metabolic advantage to the controlled carb approach. But understand that this does not give you license to gorge.

    Hi Cynthia

I'll go for 2000 a week ish~! so if I say 8000 for the month - does that sound ok??

Hi Jane! - You can pledge a goal if you like, but we are very informal here. We just post our calories burned when we work out and try to see how many we can get. I add thrm up at the end of the month. Great to have you join us!

Hey Don .. just curious .. how do you monitor the calories you burn while working in the yard? Do you wear a heart rate monitor?

Sunday, 6/3: 6.3 mile run, 527 calories burned.

Thanks again, Cynthia, for all your efforts in calculating our monthly calories!

                    Re: June Calories Burnt Challenge

Betty, I plug it into the program that I use on my calorie counter and it estimates based on the level of work, my current weight, and my age, what the calories burned are. I also compared it to the Fitlinxx program at our gym to see how it compares.

Tonight I burned 459 calories doing a 3.6 mile walk for one hour.

Cynthia, our city has a fitness center and natatorium that I use. They have a bunch of Precor equipment, and Nautilus machines for weight workouts. I love Fitlinxx for keeping track of my workouts. I can go online to look at my progress and compare it to the others at the gym, as well as log in any other exercises not tied into their system. Just like these challenges, it keeps me motivated. I know that Elizellen from the boards also uses Fitlinxx in the UK. I wonder if we have others? I think I will post the question.

Today, put me down for 555 calories burned between the 40 minutes on the recumbent bike and the 20 minute weight workout.
                              Don
