    Re: Week #1 Pedometer Challenge

Yesterday was quite the experiment. Trying to get the pedometer dialed in, then stubbed my toe later and took a huge chunk of meat off the tip of it. So all I got in was 2, 680 steps. Going to attempt some walking for exercise and see how well my knees and legs take it.

      Re: Week #1 Pedometer Challenge

The only pedometer I have ever owned was terrible, it didn't count the steps. Any recommendations of ones you have had a while? I would love to get into this challenge but need to get shopping first.

Mine is an Oregon Scientific and it also does a pulse reading, weekly/daily memory and gives you a frown face if you don't make your target steps!

Thanks is that something Walmart would have or should I go out to like Academy sporting goods for it?

I have found that the cheapos don't work properly. Mine was like $30 and I did get it at a sporting place, they had better choices as well.

              Re: Week #1 Pedometer Challenge

I tried four shops today and they're all sold out of pedometers! Everyone in town must be counting their steps!!
Looks like I'll either have to wait until I go to Rome, or order one online, and with our postal service that means.... well, anything from ten days to ten months! Grrrrrrr...

Oh well... patience is needed. Sooner or later I'll get hold of one. I'm not volunteering to count every step I take... everyone thinks I'm crazy enough as it is, what with counting stairs for the flights challenge!

My pedometer is Weight Watchers. There's a "sensitivity" slide on it. At one end, I can take one step and record ten steps taken. The other end seems to be pretty accurate.

Atkid, i bought a sportline at walmart yesterday for around 15 dollars plus tax, it seems to be working fine for now. it is a talking one that measures steps , distance and calories burned.
BTW, I have taken 3285 steps so far.

Well Silly... if you see it reported on CNN International about the "Amazing Muttering Woman", then you know I'm giving it a try! (though there are plenty of crazies who walk around here seeming to do just that!)

Here are some strategies for getting extra steps in at the office:

                            - take the stairs instead of the elevator
                            - walk during lunch and/or breaks
                            - put your phone on speaker or use a cordless and pace while talking
                            - walk to a colleague's office rather than calling or emailing
