  • February Mix-It-Up Challenge

I've gotten into a rut, and I need more variety to my exercise routine. I find I'm only able to focus on one thing at a time. So, I'm starting a simple challenge/commitment... to do at least 3 different types of exercise per week.

For me, I'll probably choose among running, spin class, weight training, yoga/pilates, and swimming. But there are plenty of other options as well... the key is simply variety to keep your body and your muscles guessing about what's coming next. And to keep yourself from getting into a rut. For me, it's also about having an active lifestyle... not hard core training for any one thing, but simply keeping myself active, trying different things.

I know it's a little late to start a February challenge, but it's something I need right now. If you want to join me, please do! Simply let me know you'd like to join, and report back here at least weekly to confirm you've completed your (minimum) 3 different workouts. The new week starts each Saturday -- but this week, you can also get credit for whatever you did today (Friday).

I think this is just what I need; hope it might also be helpful for a few of you. Here's to a great February!

It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!

I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Hey, thanks Rich -- glad to have you!

Keep in mind that you don't even have to commit ahead of time to what you're going to do (though it's fine if you do.) If you get a wild hair one day and decide to go hiking, play basketball, or stand on your head, that counts, too! So, Rich, let us know if you decide to do any handstands....

tbh Adena, I have my next 11 weeks pretty much planned out. Am training for the London Marathon now. And have a stead fast schedule.

The handstands are likely to happen at the end of the 26.2 miles! lol

I just completed my first full this weekend, and am planning to do a second at the end of March -- my problem is that I really need the cross training. It seems when I get in a running pattern, it's hard to make myself do anything else -- even though I know how helpful crosstraining is. I felt okay for my marathon, but this next one will be a more challenging course and I know I need to increase my strength and stamina for more hills... thus the need to mix it up!

Adena, I'm in on this with you.

I just wish accounting homework would count as one of my exercises!

So, today starts the new week? and we go Friday to Friday?

I need to make sure that I cross train as well. Do a little bit of something at least 3 times per week.

              Re: February Mix-It-Up Challenage

Yay, Joy -- thanks! If you walk on the treadmill while doing it -- it can count. On the bright side, at least you'll have accounting out of the way first, and the rest of your classes will be a breeze in comparsion. Okay, maybe not a breeze.... but at least they won't be accounting.

Since Friday is a weird day to start a new week, the new week will officially start on Saturdays and run through Friday. But since today is a the first day of the month, this 'week' (only) starts today (Friday) so that anyone can have credit for whatever they might have done today.

                Re: February Mix-It-Up Challenge

Okay, so far it's Rich, Joy, and me. I'll still take sign ups for the next couple of days -- if anyone else wants to join, you're more than welcome. If not, that means I only have to keep up with 3 of us, so that's okay, too.

One type of exercise done so far this week (running) -- my plan is to go to spin class in the morning for #2.

                    Hi Adena,

This sounds like a great idea - I'm in! I have a tendency to stick to one things at a time. At the moment that is kickboxing, but I need to get back into bodypump, bodycombat, and most of all do some proper cardio! I'll chose from a range of biking, ellip and running.

                    Thanks

                      How'd that run feel, Joy?

Yay, Alexa -- glad to have you! I'm going to a new gym now, but have yet to try their version of Bodypump -- it's on my list. I miss it!

I did spin class yesterday. It was great to sweat from something other than running! That said, I'm running today... Next thing this week is either the body pump-type class or swimming.

                      Keep up the variety, guys!

Adena, not sure how you want this reported?

Sunday morning I ran 6 miles
Tuesday lunchtime I attended a body pump class (Weight training)

Rich, as you go or at the end of the week (which is Friday) -- either is fine. Feel free to post daily, or as you complete different things... I'm not a stickler.

I love Body Pump (and so does Alexa)! Am looking forward to trying out my new gym's version of it this week. I think they call it "Barbell Strength."
