  • January 2010 - Strength challenge

    In the strength challenge we pledge monthly minutes. These minutes we use for lifting weights or doing other strength exercises like lunges, push ups squats, stretching, yoga or pilates. We try to share our programms with each other to learn from people

    Lately I have been doing some Jillian Michaels DVDs. Those are good. There are some good books out there to help you. I like Body for Life or The New Rules of Lifting books.

    10 minutes pilates sculpting (I started with this YouTube video - I used water bottles - it is a great starter arm exercise)
    Dumbbell Exercises from Sparkpeople on YouTube - It is 20 minutes and a good one to start with
    I want Six Pack Abs, Core Exercises - lots of core exercises.

    If you do not have weights check yoga and pilates or flexibility and strength exercises that uses gravity. A resistance band can be handy to and easy to store.

    Example of routine:
    Upper body: Push-ups, chair dips, planks (will do three times)
    Core: Planks, crunches (normal and reverse) (will do three times same day as lower body)
    Lower body: Squats, lunges, jumps (will do three times a week -alternating with upper body) __________________

      Happy Fit Year, Liv and mission to lose! And thanks so much for being the host Liv. I'm joining in so I can keep up my pushups. In this challenge I will alternate pushups with the Bowflex, as well as do my yoga. So I figure if I pledge say, 20 minutes a day, that should cover everything. The pushups don't take long though, so I'll add them to the yoga days. I do have a workout for the Bowflex using the Body for Life method, so I may try that, we'll see. Hope you don't mind my starting a list

        Heya liv, would love to join this, i plan on doing 4 x40min sessions per week on my multi gym, this includes 90second rest periods between sets of repetitions though so not sure if that counts ?

                Just finished my monday afternoon workout after work, was not looking forward to it as i had a pretty bad nights sleep but now i feel great!

                        I'd like to join if it is not too late? If so I am in for 520 mins total which will be 320 weights, 200 flexibility (which I count separately). I will be doing the Shred every other day which counts for 12 mins per day, the rest I will do in kb classes and body weight exercises and flex at home.

                              Starting to get back into the groove with my training now, i think a good playlist of music is my biggest helper when it comes to strength training.
