  • 30 Day Shred Challenge January-March 2010

    There has been some interest in a challenge based around Jillian Michael's exercise DVD The 30 Day Shred.

    Many of us have found it is a great programme and would like a challenge around it. It has three levels, which become more difficult.

    This challenge will run until the END OF MARCH. How you work in the programme is up to you. You might want to do any of the following:

    - do the challenge roughly every other day throughout (this would be about 45 times total)
    - do the challenge 10 times a month (maybe one level per month) to total 30 days over the duration of the challenge
    - commit to do work up the levels
    - I tried to do 30 days in a row in December and found it too taxing combined with other exercise commitments. You can try it, but I wouldn't recommend it - I personally think rest days are needed
    - or feel free to come up with your own goal.

    BUT as a minimum you need to do the exercise DVD 30 times by the end of March to earn the award.

    As this is a late starter any time you have down the Shred since the start of January count towards your total.

    So to earn your award:
    - sign up here by January 9th
    - commit to do the shred DVD at least 30 times by the end of MARCH
    - report once a week

    AND

    - You DO NOT have to submit before and after photos or measurements but you can share if you want to.

    This is a long-term exercise challenge so please think about what is a sustainable goal for you.

    There is no requirement to post before and afters but you can if you like.

    I am in. I will do the shred 15 times each month for a total of 45. I will do 15 of each level for simplicity.

    NB you only need to total 30 to get your award over the three months!

    Sign up is a little complicated so ask if unsure or copy for format below. L = level.

      I'm in! I've already started actually on Monday. I mentioned in the other thread it kicked my cojones, but I'm a glutton for punishment and love it! I'm in pain now.

      I will do this ever other day, with Turbo Jam 20 minute workout in between those days and maybe mix it up with some Hip Hop Abs in place of Turbo Jam for those odd days.

      I'm crediting myself one day for January. I'll be doing it again today.

        Count me in! Good way to get me started. I am going to aim for 15 times per month minimum for a total of 45 times with 15 times per level.

          Hey James - Great to see you signing up as it was your's and Miliem's idea

          Mommajen - welcome! Glad to see some other people doing the every other day thing!

          I've added in the 2 I have done already. Husband Kev is doing this with us too, but I won't add him as not a member. His face during the side lunge is hilarious...

            Hi Alexa,

            I bought this last year and after watching it a little hid it far away under my other DVD's. Well I am in a little better shape now, but still not sure if I can even get through Level one. I will watch it first later today and see if I can really get through it.


            The jumping stuff is what is really hard for me, and I am afraid I may hurt the floor!!! My DVD player is not in my basement, it is in the Family room.

              I am in. As long as my achilles holds up I will try 30 times before the end of March. Sounds like the right amount for me and I will try to have done level three a few times by then.

                Wow! I'm IN! I'm still debating on number of days as I have purchased some other Jillian dvd's also! I'm going to shoot for 45 days of Shred. Not sure about the times per level yet as I've only done levels 1 and 2. Haven't even watched 3 yet. Excited about this!

                  Love this new challenge. I'm in! I just started doing Shred, the jumping jacks are a tough one for me but it's worth it! I'll commit to 30 for now. I will give myself credit since I did Shred yesterday morning.

                    Mission to Lose - I really hope you can join us! As Jillian says she has 400lbs people doing jumping jacks and you are a lot lighter than that so I am sure your floor can cope with it fine. Also if you doo the slightly easier version it is a great start - even if you don't complete it the the first few or even 20 times, just trying to do it will be v effective.

                    Also don't feel bad if can't get through level one at first - it is tough to a lot of us here to exercise quite a bit. I am a kicboxer, regularly doing 2 hour classes and this really kicks my butt. Short in time but sooo intense!

                      great to see more challengers for this!

                      I've added you all to the list (except Mission to Lose - join when ready). If you want to decide about levels as you go that is fine.

                      Liv - great to have you with us hope your achilles does hold up. it must be very frustrating.

                      Everlosing - I haven't seen level 3 yet either! Too scared to look for now thanks for joining.

                      LovingThyself - welcome and thanks for joining. Your way of dividing up the levels is great.

                      If all you want to do is 30 days of level one that's fine as long as you are still being REALLY challenged.

                          Okay. I just finished another night of level one. Is it odd that I feel like this is already getting too easy? I'm going to stick to it for the next 13 days, but I don't know if mixing Turbo Jam during my odd days is making me stronger? Meh .. who knows! Anyway, I'm sweating like a chimpanzee in heat. I feel strong and ready for Friday's workout. Tomorrow morning is turbo jam for 20 minutes.

                            Mission to Lose - that's great. There is no requirement to go beyond level 1 for this challenge, so 40 at L1 is good, though you might find yourself wantin got move up in which case that's fine - just go for 40 overall.

                            James - I wish I felt that way! Great though. Also - please copy the entire list for each update. Just makes it a bit easier.
