Re: All Guns Blazing - Photo Challenge

I was right about being sore! Mix of free weights and machines today. I'm liking these 5x5 routines, though right now I have to just use the bar (45lbs) with no added weights. Still that's almost 40% of my body weight. I'll work up to it!

(Not sure why it said 2/6 for me, I posted 3/6 yesterday, I guess it wasn't copied. 4/6 today now anyway!)

Lateral raises are so much harder with machines. I can't even do 10lb. But I can do at least 20lb with free weights.

                              Today:
                              5x5 45lb deadlift
                              5x5 20lb chest fly
                              10x5 30lb preacher curl
                              5x5 35lb overhead pullover
                              5x5 25lb smith lat raise
                              5x5 100lb inwards hip abduction
5x5 60lb outward hip abduction (This machine is a different make than the one I usually use.. I don't like that because I can't use consistent weights)
                              5x5 10lb shoulder press
Plus today I did some moving with heavy boxes from a storage unit.

..and now I've gotta do some serious cardio. I went to a chinese buffet today for lunch. I ate pretty damn well, just meat and vegetables, and I took a starch blocker beforehand, but I know I ate WAY too much and I know there must have been added sugar in the sauces. I didn't do as badly as my boyfriend, though, who totally caved in and had rice sushi AND two bowls of pistachio ice cream.

                                Keep it up, everybody!

So I did do that cardio and had some thoughts as the burn flowed that I wanted to share with all of you..

"Truth is more important than comfort." This is my inspiration for the week. My chest, back, arms, and thighs are so sore. They were sore yesterday and they will be sore tomorrow and the next day and the day after that, too. But this is not a pursuit of comfort, it is one of truth--the truth that gains come only from hard work, and that losing the fat isn't easy. There are no shortcuts. We can work, sweat, grunt, give it all we've got, and get stronger, or we can make excuses and fall behind. Don't have the time? Wake up earlier. Lift on your lunch break. Make time. Don't have the right weights? Buy them. Join a gym. Hands hurt? Get gloves. Toughen up. There is a phrase on other forums: Harden The F*ck Up. It means accepting that to be strong is to suffer, and the best way to overcome any burden which that suffering may have on you is to harden up, push yourself to the max, and face it. It means to harden up and do whatever you need to do to choose success over failure. Challenges like this are about more than getting rid of bat wings. They are exercises in discipline, determination, responsibility, and delayed gratification. Welcoming the suffering of personal deprivation (of carbs) and the burn and fatigue of an all-out workout is taking on more strength than just in muscles, it is also personal growth. Openness to challenge is a wonderful thing, and I am so pumped to be a part of this journey with the rest of you!
