We decided to make April 20th the last day to report in.... Feel the burn peeps! We will leave the tread unlocked for the following week for everyone to post their before and after pictures. You need not post anything but your "guns". Crop your bod out of the photo if you prefer your anonymity. This is just about your guns. I really do want everyone to post their before and after shots. This IS, after all, a photo challenge and seeing the proof in the pudding will encourage others to start and keep current blazers to keep pumping!

There has been enough interest to run a second challenge, so we will start that one once this one is completed. I will post info on it in this thread and on the main forum and also in my journal. I am really looking forward to keeping this up!

        Tip for after photos...

Up the weights for your last sets (don't injure yourself). Complete as many reps as you can on your last set of each exercise. Take the photos immediately after working out (glistening with sweat, or toweled dry). Your muscles will appear larger after working out, especially if you are pushing the limits.

Question to the girls: What size weights are you using? I started with 5lbs & now I do the last 2 sets with 8lbs. And I've really slowed down my reps. At the beginning I just did them, but now I concentrate on the muscle & the movement & hold it. Just curious if it's better to move up or stay.

Michelley, I use 5 and 10 pounds. A 10 for the Bent Over Rows, and a 10 for the French Press, all others I use the 5 pounder. I moved up to the 10 pound.

I use 15lbs for bent-over rows & French Press. ~7.5 pounds for the bicept curls & 4.4 pounds (2kilos) for the other two.

I have always done weights 'to failure' - i.e. I raise the weight to the point where I can't do anymore after the last set. That is just how my husband taught me to do it (because that is how he does it). My understanding (and someone more informed/experienced please correct me if I am wrong) is that going to failure is more for building muscle mass and doing many reps at a lower weight is more for toning.

Always best to lift as much as you can while maintaining proper form. The first couple times I raise the weight for a set, I do it in front of a mirror to make sure I can lift that weight correctly. The weights section at the gym is covered in mirrors for a reason. (And it's not just so the guys can kiss their muscles in it!)

Michelley - I use 10 pound and 12 pound weights. I am hoping to move up to 15 pounds for our second challenge. I agree with everyone else... only lift the highest weight you can while maintaining form. The correct form is what keeps you from injury.

Thanks all, for your responses. I might buy some 10s & 12s. The French press is getting easy with the 8lb.
Julieb, kudos on the 15, but I KNOW I can't do that! YET!! Might try the "to failure", but if I up the weights I'll be lucky to make my reps/sets, haha.
