    Nikki,

Great job getting out there!! Sometimes, just getting going is the hardest part! YAY YOU!

Hon, I would advise you to go slow slow slow, especially just starting out. Can you run on the level until your body gets used to the impact of running? Running slow and on the level will get you better conditioned to take on those hills! And running slow actually burns more fat! So its slower, stronger, longer for maximum results. I know it sounds weird, but trust me, it does work!

Never increase your distance more than 10% at a time in order to reduce the chance of injury. And definitely invest in some good running shoes with lots of cushioning if you are running on concrete or asphalt.

    GREAT JOB!!

Hey everyone! I miss this thread, but I've been so busy building my garage. I haven't been able to run but I've been getting tons of exercise. As soon as I'm done I'll be hitting the road again, because I have that half marathon coming up in about 8 weeks or so, on Oct 9th.

Keep the roads warm for me.
      Jim

Yes I'm eating a smore in the picture, how do you think I got so fat?

Re: Cool Running for the week of August 7, 2005

6 miles this morning in under an hour, much better than yesterday. I am going to try for another 3 miles this evening. I want to get my 30 miles for the week, but still have a rest day on Sat before my "long" run on Sunday. I am going to get that 10 miles down this Sunday I just know it!!

Jim good to see you. We were worried. Let us know when the fresh baby arrives. I imagine things are pretty busy at your house, but sneak in a few miles if you can. As quoted from Runners Word "The more you do something the more gooder you get at it"

Keep fighting those challenges my friends, and keep coming out winners!!!

3 loops at the park, 2.25 miles. 34:00 flat. I did mostly 1 minute running, 1 minute walking, and it felt great! I think I mentally needed this low-pressure workout, and I kept telling myself not to think about it as a run, but just as getting in my 30 minutes of exercise which I haven't been doing at all lately.

I'm back, and I'm slower than ever!!! What a wonderful feeling

Re: Cool Running for the week of August 7, 2005

Finished 4 miles at noon. My running group now consists of ME .. most of them have wimped out due to the extreme heat and humidity. Well okay, so we're not ALL committed (or crazy) like me. Whatever .. I can't stop now!!

After the run, I went into the fitness center and did my weight work. Felt good to get the whole body done in one day!

Tomorrow is an off day, then 13.1 miles on Saturday. Maybe more if I can get out there early enough.

Betty you're such an inspiration!! Rock On!!!! LOL @ calling them wimps!! Cry babies, and they call themselves runners!! It makes me think of when my dad said he was going for a jog around in the Rosebowl, he was so cool (he thought) that his jog was nothing more than a walk, all hoping up and down like he was doing something. Trying to pick up the ladies who thought he was a joke. Talk about embaressed .

                      Betty,

When you get to Texas you can run with me. The only stipulation is that you have to go at 5am or carry my 3yr old on your back--no I won't be shirking, I will be carring the 45lb 4 year old!!

OH, My goodness I have to tell you since I have increased my lilage and didication to running I have finally fit into the last pair of pants I have had sitting waiting for me to fit into. Now when these are too big I'll have to go shopping how excellent. My stomach is soo much flatter and WOW I feel mighty hot these days.

Today was supposed to be a crosstraining day I was going to go out riding my bike but, a big storm came up and I'm not pulling my kids in the horrid rain. Wjat should I do??? I don't think I should run today I have had 2 running days in a row I don't want to burm out. I did my weights do you think that will suffice for today or should I have a short Jog. I have to run tomorrow then Not till Sunday so I'm not exactly sure what I should do.

HELP ME LOL. Ok, I am a running freak I would run every day I swear if I could but, I know that's just stupidness.

Any how let me know what you think.

Sarah (is it bad to run every day????)

SARAH! CONGRATS ON FITTING INTO THOSE PANTS!! Girlie, that's TREMENDOUS!

Now, for the brutal truth: YES ITS BAD TO RUN EVERYDAY. Take it from a runningaholic .. I'd love to run everyday, but yes, that would be stupid. And risky. You simply *MUST* allow those minute tears to heal in your muscles. Two off days a week MINIMUM. Right now, I run 33 miles a week and take Friday and Sunday off. Those are the days before and after my 13.1 mile Saturday runs. On the other days, I do anywhere from 4-6 miles (depending on this dastardly heat!)

Please, hon, REST at least 2 days a week. Your joints will thank you!

So today no running PROMISE tomorrow I run Saturday off and Sunday is my LOng run so I have 3 days off this week is that ok. 3 miles this evening for a total of 9 miles today. Let me tell you the 3 miles were harder than the 6 whew!!!

Sarah, I take two days off as well Sat and Mon with my "long" run on Sunday.

20 miles is super terrific!!! Go Sarah, Go Sarah, Go Sarah.

I think for me I need a break at least every 4 days.

                                See ya in the morning.
