Re: Cool Running for the week of August 14, 2005

    Great job today everyone.

I still have toe nails!!! I am starting to get a callus on my second toe (neighbor to the big toe.) Yeah!!!

Sarah, the petrolum jelly really does work wonders, my thighs and bra line are much better due to continued use. Awesome job on the inch loss as well.

So funny about the cheer thing. Part of my goal is to be a cheerleader for halloween with my hubbie and little guys as the football team. I will ship it to Betty after the holiday and she can have it altered to be small enough for her!!! (I should be a size 6 by then*fingers crossed* I am a comfortable 10 now and the scale is finally moving back in the right direction.) It only took 30+ miles a week to get it to do so!!

    I heart you guys,
    rach

Ah, the callous is ONLY THE BEGINNING! Kiss those cute little toe nails goodbye ... Never fear, you can always put polish on your skin and make them look like nails. I've considered it .. But actually, I consider my toes just evidence of my success. Like a badge of courage or a purple heart, ya know??

I look forward to the cheerleading outfit!! Make it size zero and we're there!

Tomorrow, 8 more miles on the trail with DD (if I can talk her into it...she usually gives me the "OH MOM" thang ... KIDS! Gad I love being unemployed!! If only running paid!!

Thanks Sarah! I don't know why, but I can feel an addiction already coming on and I haven't even started.

Ok, you guys are not helping me with my fear of losing my toenails...I am so creeped out!

Ok, I'm tired and its early. I'm thinking if I go to bed now I can get up and go for a walk in the morning. And then on to my first walk/jog on Saturday.

I really need to go shoe shopping before Saturday. If I have time to take a lunch break tomorrow, maybe I'll go then. Any suggestions of good stores to go to? Maybe Gart Sports? Not sure if that's just a local store or not, but that is the closest to my work. I also need a hot running outfit. You know, you have to look good when exercizing! I haven't bought new exercise clothes since I started Atkins...91 pounds ago! But its so dang hard to find exercise clothes in my size. ARGH.

Well trust me, you will look hot no matter what you wear. Running is not the most pretty activity. But the results it brings are!!!

I ran 4 miles this am. My hrm will arrive today, so I wanted to save up and run some this evening with it. I am planning at least 3 maybe 4 more miles after hubbie gets home today.

Ok..I have to go shower. I am so HAWT!!(not quite a diva like sarah and betty, but hawt none the less!!!)

Re: Cool Running for the week of August 14, 2005

            Nikki,

I love New Balance, but I get them online because they're cheaper. I go to the New Balance store to get fitted in the shoes I am going to buy, then thank them and go online and save $$. If you want, I can give you the websites where I shop. Look for shoes with great stability and cushioning in the forefoot area and also the heel. I absolutely love my NB 1221s. They cost like $140 at the store and I get them for $99 online (no tax or shipping). Buy your running shoes A FULL SIZE BIGGER than your street shoes. Trust me, that will protect your toenails. Keep track of the miles on your shoes and WEAR THEM ONLY WHEN RUNNING -- do not wear them for casual walking. Once you log 300 miles on them, GET NEW ONES, even if they don't look worn out. Running shoes lose their cushioning after 300 miles and you *must* protect your feet and joints from injury. New shoes are a small price to pay to stay injury free.

As for the outfits, I get mine at the mall at a place called THE FINISH LINE. They sell shoes and other apparel. Try to find clothes made with "cool max" . CM really whisks away the sweat and is very durable. You might pay more initially, but its money well spent. Also get running socks with cool max. Again, very worth the money.
Great job today, Rach!! I'm so excited for you to get a HRM!! Let me know how you like it!! What kind is it??? I need to get another one, but being unemployed, it will have to wait. But of course I am still running even without it. BUT I MISS IT!!

I'm gonna hit the trail today. I'll try to talk DD into rollerblading it while I run. She can't take the heat (what a wuss) but maybe if she's rollerblading, it won't feel as hot. I'd like to get out there early, but she's not a morning person ... so I guess we'll do the mid-day run.

I got some more sportswater last night, so that will be good. It really helps on those long runs.

Have a great day everyone! I'll report in when I get back!!

Re: Cool Running for the week of August 14, 2005

Betty I don't know if you have ever tried this for your long rund but, if you Buy the celtic sea salt it's like 10 bucks a bag and has a ton of those minerals that they put into sports water. I got this tip from a running sight what ya do is put the salt in your water like 2 pinches it keeps your elecrollites up and also doesn't cost an arm and a let like some of the bottles stuff. It seems to work really well I have been doing it and I feel way more energized then when I had water without it.

Hey, Nikki e don't worry about losing toenails now. I run a lot and still have all of mine, they are just starting to really take a beating this is 6 months of running. You probably won't be doing the milage to worry about the toes for a while. When you start running in the 10k zone then it becomes more of an issue but, I still have mine. Betty runs like a wild woman so she has no toenails LOL but, it's ok. So no worries all right.

I think it's great this little community we have going here this is ssoooooo excellent. Oh, Nikki e I bought my first new outfit when I went on my 10K in July and I did buy the cool max stuff I love it it's awesome. I bought the very clingy pants and I'm sure glad I did it keeps everything in place. I am not tooo sure how Bust you are but, if you wear around a C cup try and find a sport top with the bra built in with the cool max in it. I have one with and one without and I by far prefer the one without. Be sure you try everything on and in the dressing room I was too chicken to come out Jump up and down and see that everything is staying where it should.

I actually bought my shirt in 1 size smaller then I wear caus I hate when my boobs jiggle at all when I run even know they are small I hate it. You'll do great and it keeps ya modivated to run. WHat I do is especially when I feel really unmodivated I put on my running gear and do my stuff around the house before long I am running LOL.

It's been really cold here the past few days and raining it only to +10C which is chilly and goosepimply LOL.

Today is my 3 miles I am going to run half uphill to improve on myself it seems to be working really well then the last half of my run seems really easy.

              Take care all

First of all, Betty, huge congrats to you for getting out of a job that tears you down. Life is just too short, you know? I have a job interview myself today for an associate director position of Study Abroad at my university and I'm crossing my fingers for it.

In other news, Sarah, I know you probably had this question answered by someone else days ago, but I read in Runners World that the most important time to eat something is within 20 minutes after your long run. It said that during that time you'll immediately replenish some of what you lost. I usually try a low carb yogurt and some pecans and it does help tremendously. Also, the article did say to expect hunger the following day and to feed it!

I'm going to try to do 2.5 miles tonight, and can't wait. The humidity is low for a change and it's supposed to reappear tomorrow so I want to get in a great run tonight.

I think we should all meet in at Disney to run in 2007! Great idea, Betty.

Thanks Reveal for the answer I find that Almods are my food of choice they seem to work well. My appetite has increased dramatically and last night I couldn't eat enough LOL. I'm sure as I adapt more it'll be betteer. The problem I had befreo when I was running I never listened to my bodies fuel needs and Just drank water I know stupid no wonder I was sooo waisted. This runnners world Book is sooo great I have been reading it and learning a lot. I don't deny myself when I'm hungry I just giver and I usually can't eat too much but, I crave protein like chicken and eggs so I know that's what my body needs.

Thanks sooo much for the reply Reveal it is soo much appreciated.

                  Have a wonderful day

Thanks Revea, for those kind words. My fingers are doubly crossed for you to land that job!! Let us know how it went!

Well, ladies and gents (do we have any gents here anymore or have we managed to intimidate them all?) Anyway, if I don't get an interview or even a phone call soon, I'm gonna be REALLY SKINNY .. cuz when I get down about not working, I go run. Today, I ran the trail with DD for 9 miles in the mid-day sun. Call me crazy. I am. And I have like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO appetite. Stress does that to me. I've logged 26.7 miles in 4 days. Yep, it helps ease the stress and the pity-party, but still.........I've never run that far in 4 days. Tomorrow I promise to take a rest day (MAYBE?) and do housework. Wow, don't that sound like fun??! Saturday I hope to do my 13.1, but we'll see. If I do, that will give me nearly 40 miles this week. I GOTTA GET ME A JOB BEFORE MY BODY WEARS OUT!

I did sign up for a 5k this Sunday in a park near my house. Just for fun. Supposed to start at 8:00 and its right along Tampa Bay so a beautiful course. Maybe I'll have to cut back my Saturday run a little so I don't burn out.

Say a prayer for me that I can cope with having all this time on my hands!

                      Betty

I did my 3.1 miles 5k and it was a hardrun took me 43 minutes which is slower then usual but I ran half of it well over half 25 minutes up hill. It was brutal then the other half I reved it up and ran like 4.7 and 5.5 MPH so I was trucking. I'm tired now and need a shower I'm a sweaty lady LOL

I know I gotta eat, but its hard to do it. Nothing really sounds good....

Great job with the run! Nothing will make you stronger and better conditioned than running uphill! I've noticed since I've been running the trail, my legs are stronger than ever ... Tampa doesn't have many hills, so even a slight increase in elevation is better than none. The trail virtually goes from sea level to about 38 feet above sea level over the course of about 6 miles. By Tampa's standards, 38 feet is mountain climbing!

LOVE THE NEW PIC! You are totally SHRINKING, GIRLIE!! WOWZER!

Mam' I am gonna have to write you out a ticket. You are not following the laws Running Diva I (aka you) has set out. You must eat and you must rest. mkay?

You have got to give the hiring departments a chance to see your info. Think of it this way some companies may only check the resume's once a week, say Mondays so they haven't even pulled yours up yet. When they do you will have to replace your answering machine, because if you work anywhere near as hard as you run, it will burn out from all the activity. You would be an asset to any company.

Sarah as always WOW!!! --One day my hubbie will let me put up my pics. (no he is not controling, just concerned thank you very much!)

I got my HRM (Nike Imara--I know it seems like I am a nike wh*re, but I just happen to like their rifts and this style of hrm.) I just called hubbie to tell him and he said he won't get home until 10 or later I wanted to test it out today!!!!! Plus I ran those puny little 4 miles in anticipation of getting at least a few more this evening. Now I will have work my bum to the bone tomorrow to catch up for the week. Well if I do 6 in the am and 3 in the pm I will have 33.5 and if I only get in the 6 I will have 30.5 so not that bad I quess.

I am so glad to be a part of this group. You are all amazing and strong women. I don't usually like women (dad had 5 wives by the time I was 14 wonder if that has something to do with it??HMMM ) But for you amazing, honest, supportive gals I am happy to make an exception!!! Thanks for enriching my life with your presence.

Think I am going to go hit the mini tramp.
