    I'M FREAKIN' OUT!!

Please tell me guys. How bad did it hurt when you first did SiU??? I attempted to do it again yesterday, but I could not move my legs. I can handle going up stairs, it sucks, but I can handle it. Going down stairs is a different story. My knees buckle and I'm down for the count! It hurts but I laugh everytime though my tears. I must look like a total loser.

Anyhow, where did it hurt for you guys?? For me it's my thigh, only on the top side. Oh yea, and my knee is swollen!!! IS THIS NORMAL??? It's not the typical ouch this hurts kinda thing, this is like OMG I think I need the ER I for real can't walk right now....

Ahhhhh....it hurts so bad. I know I sound like a baby, but it's okay. After all, this is the house of pain right???? LOL

Just please let me know how bad this is supposed to hurt. I don't know what's normal, and what isn't.

    Painfully yours, Steph

jsj- There's a reason why we elected to call this The House of Pain. It wasn't because we were blowing smoke- starting this routine freakin' HURTS.

The WORST thing you can do right now is take a break. I know that sounds totally counter-intuitive, but listen to those of us who have been where you are right now. WORK OUT TODAY. You will find within about 5-8 minutes of starting the workout that your muscles will loosen up DRAMATICALLY. You'll find that as you get the blood pumping through those muscles again today that you will actually FEEL BETTER working out.

You will, however, stiffen back up about an hour after finishing. This is why it's really important that you do the Slim & Limber routine and stretch those muscles out gently.

Remember- you don't have to go as fast and you don't have to push yourself to your limits. Hang in there for as many reps as you can and then drop back to marching in place or doing knees-up/hands-up until you catch your breath or your muscles stop howlin at you, and then get in there and do more reps. No one expects that you're going to be able to hit every rep or keep up with her pace. These workouts are NOT SISSY STUFF!

Now, I'm sure you thought we were blowin' smoke when some of us talked about not being able to walk up or down stairs, having to hold on to something to sit, or like me, falling and bashing my head on the wall when going to sit on the toilet because my quads gave out. You might wanna go back and read from the beginning- cuz you're gonna have a whole new appreciation for the whining now. ROFLMAO!!!! ((((((((((((((jsj)))))))))))))))) You poor thing!

Here's the really great news: If you continue to do your daily workouts and you continue to do your stretching like you should, you will be through the worst of this in about 4 days and then you're going to start feeling remarkably better. The really cool thing is that that's about the time it dawns on you that you're doing more reps and you're already STRONGER. It's worth it, girl. Hang in there!!

Thank you so much!!!!! I will work out today, I promise. I knew you guys were going through pain, but DAMN. I never thought it was this bad. Oh yea, and I COMPLETELY understand the thing about hitting your head ...I can't hit on the toilet to save my life...we have a stand behind it and ...WHAM... every damn time.

As funny as it sounds, DO like knowing that my muscles are sore b/c they are being worked. They've never hurt like this, and I used to run track. This is a whole-nother level. The fact that they are this sore just goes to show that they were THAT outta shape. Okay...thatnks so much brook and barb for replying!!!

I'll be here later to complain some more....

Just goes to show that they're being worked that much differently

I forgot to say something about that swollen knee. Be careful and make sure that you're paying VERY close attention to your form. Now this may mean that you only get a total of 6 lunges in today because you're going slowly and making sure your knee doesn't go over your ankle. It may mean you have to half-time it on the squats to make sure that you're stickin' your booty way out behind you and not pushing forward with your knees. Be sure your feet are wide apart on those plies and you're keeping the work in your thighs and not your knees. Doing this today will help you identify what's messing with your knee and once you know what it is, you can work around it/modify it as necessary -whatever. If it hurts your knee- stop doing it and find a modification!!

You're gonna do awesome! And I'll look forward to hearing your whine later

jsj-Barb and Brook were accurate in their information on SIU. They forgot to tell you the amazing and unbelievable part of si6. At some point SIU is going to be too easy for you. It takes time but it will happen. Keep an eye on your knee. The swelling in your knee sounds kind of suspicious. I work for an orthopedist and it is possible you may have injured yourself.

Short on time this morning. Had to do SIU.

I did a heavily modified Ramp it Up this morning to protect my knees. Modified lunges and squats and skipped the floorwork altogether. I'm still counting it, though, since it was a harder work out than I used to do, even without all that stuff!

Stephanie - I echo what everyone else has said. Pain is a normal part of this workout, you should expect and embrace it, because it means you're getting stronger. But knee swelling and pain (which I have too) usually means that you're doing something wrong. So check on your form. I think I pushed my knees too far by forcing myself to do all the BIU lunges, when I wasn't ready for them. As you get fatigued, your form will naturally slip, so be sure to keep paying attention to it, even as you're pushing through.

It is supposed to hurt like ****. I stayed on SIU for two weeks so it would not be so hard, but to tell you the truth, by day 9 it was really getting easy.
We all did a lot of marching in place, plies with arms on our waists, squats and lunges with chair support, and, let's not forget, cursing Debbie for all she was worth.
The great thing about this is that every time I come back to SI6 my friends at work know because the belly gets flatter and flatter -- and I'm on my way to 41. I am in the best shape ever and it is all do to the pain and sweat from the workouts and the support from this board.
Don't quit! It will get easier -- and then it will be time to move to RIU. Don't move to RIU until SIU gets easier.

                      Morning ladies,

Hi jsj...YES it really hurt that bad at the beginning!!

As for me, I'm coming down with a cold so I didn't workout yesterday and I doubt I will today either. We'll see how I'm feeling this afternoon, I might be feel better by then.

                      Happy Friday!

I BIU yesterday. It felt so good to workout. My belly is definitely getting flatter, but I still have a loooooong way to go. My arms are getting smaller too -- which is a real trouble spot for me.

This morning I was short on time, so I used the treadmill for 30 minutes. Its not as great of a workout as SI6, but it got my heart rate going and I was a sweaty mess.

Felling muscle pain is normal and a good thing but the swollen knee is a different story. Do you normally have knee problems?
