Hi everyone! This seems like a great thread! Everyone is very supportive. I do have an issue though, and I hope someone can help with some suggestions. I have been a runner since I was a child. I usually run about 6-10 miles a day depending on weather and time, and I do strengh training 3 days a week after my run for 45 mintues. I started Atkins 2 1/2 weeks ago and I really love it, although now when I run I get to my third mile and I feel like crawling back to my car, and I end up taking an hour long nap when I get home! No energy to clean, walk up the stairs...nothin'. I hoped this would have passed by the first week but I am still having a tough time. During all this I ran a 5k and my time really suffered. I am scheduled to run a 15k, and 1/2 marathon coming up in the next couple months and I'm scared to do it. Any Ideas!! I hope this dosen't last forever. I have already lost 7 pounds and I want to keep going.

Are you getting a lot of healthy carbs in every day? You have to work with your body a bit here. Maybe a snack before you run (like an hour before) or maybe something right after would help. I usually do a protein drink or something protein after a long exercise round.

Re: Its time to resurrect the COOL RUNNING thread!

                        Wednesday, 5.2 miles.

                        Thursday, 8 miles.

jamistar, its difficult to run when you first switch from burning carbs to burning fat for fuel. I would encourage you to make SURE your fat intake is HIGH, along with adequate protein. Fat is honestly and truly the athlete's fuel of choice, so please make sure you are getting enough of it. Also, be sure you are well hydrated before, during and after your running.

I've run over 8,000 miles on Atkins since November 1, 2003, so I promise you it will get easier as your body becomes a lean, mean, fat-burning machine!
