Re: Its time to resurrect the COOL RUNNING thread!

I decided t try my hand at running. So I started C25K last week. After completing the first week, I was really surprised that I wasn't as winded as I thought I would be. I love the gradual process.

Re: Its time to resurrect the COOL RUNNING thread!

I've been slacking with the running recently.. so having arrived in Germany this morning I did 15 minutes on the treadmill with the first 9 running (don't fear, I also did 20min on the bike and 30 min on elliptical).

I have no idea how far I went though... I *can* say that one should not round things off to 2 kilometers = 1 mile. 12kph is definitely NOT 6mph. I should actually take my Nike+ next time (or go running outside).

Re: Its time to resurrect the COOL RUNNING thread!

I have just discoverd the couch to 5K run and started this morning.

Wow this is fantastic. I have always been a walker but wanted to run and often see others doing it but always thought I can't do that for whatever reason.

Well today I started and I am going to finish it and then keep going.

Re: Its time to resurrect the COOL RUNNING thread!

I'm going to join in as well. I've been running now 4 years ..but last year slacked off badly! I started up again 3x a week in January, and at the beginning of march started aiming for 4-5 days a week usually between 2 to 3 miles a day. Though i've been alternating occaisionally with the stationary bike as well.

Today I did 3.2 miles. I've pretty much kept my distance the same but since starting back up again in January, have improved my pace from 4.2 mph to 5.1 mph.

Good luck to all the c25k'ers to have just started! THis is also how I started 4 years ago..i couldn't run for 2 minutes when i started, in 6 weeks i could run 5k no problem!

Oh and right now it's treadmill running, weather has been less than stellar here since november. Hopefully I can start running outside again soon! though as boring as i find the treamill, i find it doesn't wear on my knees as much.

Re: Its time to resurrect the COOL RUNNING thread!

Great work gang. I loved C25K. It is a great programme.
Way to go Betty on your 8 miles.
                      I did my 6 K today.

Read a very good book on running yesterday called "No need for speed"
I highly recommend it. It is by John "The Penguin" Bingham.
It was sooo cool. It was about "being a runner" which has nothing to do with how you run, how you look, how fast you are. It is just what you are, no matter what. So when I ran today, I was thinking about that. I am a runner. It does not matter that I do not have skinny legs or am very fast, it is just something I am.
John Bingham in nick named "The Penguin" because he says he runs like one. "John Lennon may have been the walrus, but I am the Penguin", he writes "Slow and with a waddle. Penguins, waddling and scurrying, are the ultimate expression of will over form" Isn't that cool?
                      Waddle on friends!!!

Re: Its time to resurrect the COOL RUNNING thread!

Had my second session of week one this morning and thought it was harder than the first session (but we all know it is exactly the same for the first week).

Still felt fantastic when I finished and I am looking forward to Fridays session too.

I am also walking the dog for half an hour each day and the days I am not doing the C25K, I am playing on the wii fit, doing step, yoga and muscle exercises...

I don't have any soreness today like I did the day after my first session - maybe I did not work hard enough.

Looking forward to my next session tomorrow

Yesterday got a called into a phone conference during my run so had to cut it short only 12 mins grrrrrr.

Today did 2.5 miles, 35 mins. Though I felt like my legs were made of lead for some reason.

                            Might do the bike tomorrow.
