    Re: Home Remedies

Megs, when you say "laundry water softner" is that the same thing as fabric softner? Like Downy or Snuggle? I have a bunch of silver that I inherited and it needs cleaning badly, last time I cleaned it all my hands were so cramped when I got done! That trick sounds so easy!

The hairspray trick is awesome isn't it? Back when I waited tables and bartended I was always getting ink stains so that trick came in really handy!

      Re: Home Remedies

Okay - not sure if this qualifies, but I swear by it and nothing else. Regular Dove (white beauty bar soap) takes out blood stains. Every month I get 'em, like clock-work.

The first time it happened I almost threw them away. Because I had woke up in the middle of the night, changed and went back to bed WITHOUT rinsing them. Gross, right? I know, I know... Anyway, The next morning, I put them in the sink moistened them with cold tap water and rubbed the bar soap into them. Presto, chango - all signs of blood disappeared.

I used to use peroxide (that sometimes left a slight stain), but no more...it's Dove all the way. My "delicates" always look brand new.

                  Re: Home Remedies

Good ol' SPIT contains enzymes that work on many organic stains to pre-treat them and keep them from setting in if you can't wash them out right away. Ie., your drink or soup drips on your blouse and you won't be off the bus before it has time to dry. Dab each spot thoroughly with saliva, and what's left later, if anything, should wash right out with soap and water.

Cayenne pepper will also stop bleeding. It will cauterize (sp) a severed artery. If you cut yourself badly, pour cayenne pepper on the wound (yes, it will HURT, but better than bleeding to death).

Now that is interesting! Have you actually tried it out? Would have never thought of that.
