Hi - I'm Carole. 51 years old so I fit into this category. I was really excited to see a forum for people our age. I remember it was easy to lose weight when I was younger, but the older I get the harder it is to get motivated let alone loose weight. I'm starting in a few days -- I've been looking around and making sure I know what I'm doing. Too many times I've jumped in with no clue what I'm doing -- this time I can't afford to do that.

Say hi if you have time
    Carole

Welcome Carole! Good to have you with us in our "youngsters corner" here at ADBB!!
Kudos to you for looking around and finding out how to go about things. There's a wealth of information on and around the board and always someone ready to lend a helping hand, if you need one.
Have you read the book? If not, then Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 edition) is the one you want and the one the ADBB goes by. It was the last one written in its entirety by Dr A before his death, so hasn't had others messing around with it.

Keep us updated as to your progress. We're all in this together!
      Before and after:

      PLEDGING FLIGHTS
Completed: 1st set of buildings and mountains (Everest,M.Blanc & Kilimanjaro, twice); Tower Masts & Chimneys; More virtual buildings; Challenger's Choice x 2 (volcanos and mountains on Mars). Currently climbing: Mount Snowdon again: 416/475

Start 10 Jan 2005. Maintenance since Aug. 2005.

Thank you everyone!!! It's great to have all this support so early my journey. I'm learning something new each day so by Monday I should be ready to hit the floor running.

I'm trying to figure out how to get my info at the bottom of each email -- the weight & challenge info...think that is in the signature area. Thanks again. Each of you inspire me

Hi Carole. We could be sisters except I have silver hair. Aren't we beautiful 50+ women! I look forward to sharing and reading the success (and setback) stories on the 50+ forum. Have a great day!

This was my 3rd full day on Atkins...wish I would have read about the detox before starting...LOL -- I thought I was really "sick"...LOL!!! Anyway it's better today, I've joined a few challenges, ate carefully but well (love the colorful good on the plate each meal). I refuse to get on the scale until the 19th (the end of induction)...then I'll make up my mind to continue with induction or move on. I hope to do well but I know I feel better already & my blood sugar has stopped yo-yoing like it was before. Hope everyone is well and happy!!

I'm glad you're through the flu and feeling better today. Atkins is great for controlling
blood sugar and I'm glad that's getting better too. Keep up the good work because you're doing great!

Hi Carole, you're doing good so far. I think it only takes a few days on this way of eating for blood sugar to stabilize. Welcome and I hope you enjoy it here!

thank you Mickkey -- it's amazing how the endiocrinologist scared the crap out of me about diabetes...how nothing would really change but losing weight would make it easier on my vital organs. I've been reading other Type 2 and FORMER Type 2's postings. I will be one of the former Type 2's who kicks meds to the curb!!

My goal, other than losing weight and being healthier is to hopefully get rid of all the meds I'm on. High blood pressure, high triglicerides, high cholesterol plus the diabetes meds.

Hi imagood1! I am on day 3 and no flu....but I confess to drinking coffee. I am bad I know. I only quit smoking a few months ago and cutting out coffee too just freaked me out. Except for that I am cheat free and very determined. This is my second time around... I did low-carb 7 years ago and it was very successful!

Good luck and I know you will succeed in your goals!

                            Re: Another 50+ member

On July 4th this year I quit smoking 2 years ago....my husband had triple bypass the year before and I had made several changes -decaf coffee was the biggest for me. That same year I went to a nutritionist and lot 20 pounds but it was hard to stick to her rules and I slipped - then earlier last year I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I already was taking meds for high blood pressure, triglicerides and cholesterol...so the diabetes just didn't set well with me. I tried the nutritionist again but I spent the entire day figuring out what to eat in the next 2 - 3 hour span ---- so I quit again.

Right before Christmas I found this website and started lurking around....on the 5th of January I made the decision to start and really make it work for me. I still drink coffee --- but instead of 2 pots (decaf remember) a day I drink about 3 - 4 cups....a couple in the morning and maybe a couple at night....but I make sure I drink a lot of water during the day. In the first 2 weeks I lost 17 pounds and am not sure if I've lost any weight this week --- but I'm hopeful. I'm going through the end of the month with induction then I'll continue with OWL.

Good luck with your journey -- I'll keep an eye out and check in with you!!

OMG that is awesome! Well done, Imagood! That is a lot of weight to lose, whether it is fluid or not! I am so proud of you! I will try the decaf... but it will have to be in stages... I just love a good cup of coffee in the morning!
