    Re: Another 50+ member

it is Feb 2 - 4 weeks ago I started Atkins with a lot of hope that this would work. This morning I stepped on the scale and even though I haven't lost any weight since last week (I'm still at 200) I'm very happy that in 1 month I've lost 17 pounds and more importantly I've lost inches!!!

According to Fitday this morning I've lost:
    1/2" off my neck
    1/2" off my left bicept
    1/2" off my right bicept
    3/4" off my left forearm
1" off my right forearm (all the water I've been lifting...LOL)
    2-1/2" off my bust
2-1/8 off my chest (below the bust)
    3" off my waist
    2-1/2" off my hips
    2-1/2" off my left thigh
    2-7/8" off my right thigh
    2" off my left calf
    1-5/8" off my right calf

that's quite a few inches in my book- roughly with my bad math skills I come up with about 22-1/4" loss!!! I'm happier with my inch loss than the weight loss because my clothing isn't falling off, but they fit much better. My wedding band has gone back on my ring finger and not on my pinkie like it had been. My watch doesn't leave as much of an imprint in my arm as it did before and my face has cleared up...I'm 51 I shouldn't have breakouts!

This has been a good day!

Wow, Carole! Those are some impressive stats!!!

Congratulations on a great first month.

I really enjoy reading your posts.

I just went back and read some of the posts I had missed. Yes, I'm on induction. I switched from a low calorie diet that wasn't working to Atkins on January 18. I had a bit of a struggle adjusting to the diet, so decided to stay in induction two or three more weeks at least.

This week is the first time I've felt that I really had a handle on it. I messed myself up trying to do too much exercise too fast, but know how much I can do without messing my WOE up now.

Also, I went back to the book and looked at the sample meals and realized I was eating WAY too much food. So I am working on learning what proper portion sizes are. Tonight I was able to distinguish between wanting to eat something and needing to eat.

Years of late evening eating is a habit that is hard to break. But I did really well tonight. Nothing after dinner!

Hopefully I'll break the 10 pound barrier when I weigh in Friday morning.

Glad you stopped in ..... I'm sure once your body adjusts to being on Atkins and not on the other diet you will start losing again. It's hard to figure correct portions isn't it? I still have a hard time with portions because I grew up eating what was on my plate, and it seemed to always be a plateful! I was notorious for eating any and all of my brothers veggies because he didn't like anything but frozen corn and I liked EVERYTHING so I always ate his too.....I thought I was being a good sister - I was just being a pig!

I'm glad you went back to the book -- I carry mine like my grandmother carried her Bible...everywhere! I often go back and I have scribbles in the pages.

I'm starting a exercise video this week -- I think it might help since my body is use to what I've been doing. I hope it helps because I've had this video for over a year and it's never been out of the case until tonight! Sad isn't it!!!

Well, I'm off to bed...mom has had a bad day - she has flu symptoms even though she had a flu shot....and it just hit her around 2:00 this afternoon. I'll be up off and on throughout the night with her, so I need to get to bed. Thanks again for stopping in -- have a great week...can't wait to hear how you do on Friday .... let me know

          Re: Another 50+ member

Haven't been by in a few days....so here I am!! I'm hosting the February Water challenge but didn't get it going until last night so that will keep me a little busier on here that I've been.

Mom's been sick for 2 days - every time she eats anything she gets a stomach ache...I told here if she's not better by tomorrow she's going tothe doctor. On Friday she get her hearing aids, I've been wondering if somehow that has something to do with her stomach aches...mom has a funny way of "new" things getting to her. I'mhoping tat isn't it because she really needs the hearing aids and after she pays out all the money for them, it would be a shame if she didn't use them. She wasn't raised to have something she doesn't use, but with her, you never know!!

I did my exercises before breakfast this morning and around 11:00 went and laid down, whatever has it's grip on me just isn't letting go very easily. I don't feel sick...I am just ruun down. The water intake has kicked in again because I've been in the bathroom quite a bit again. I'm really looking forward to weighing on Monday -- I'm hoping I've lost a little, it feels like I have, but it might be inches lost again. It's all good whatever it is . I've been reading about a lot of people who's weight is stuck on or right after induction, and others thinking they can eat whatever they want and call it Atkins. I'm sure I would have tried to do the same a couple years ago, I was ready for WOE to work after trying so many before this one...I am so thankful the night I went onto the Atkins website that I somehow ended up on this website because this has truly been a salvation for me. I've always said you have to be ready to let new things into your life and I was ready for this. I looked on the calendar and March 16 I am suppose to go see the nutritionist - since I'm not following her plan I don't "plan" on going to see her, but I'll let her know about my weight loss. I go Feb 17 to the Endocrinologist and my Internist (both of them one after the other). I'm hoping either or both of them are happy with my progress. The Internist is somewhat of a jerk and thinks the answer to everything is "you should eat less"....I'd like him to come see my meals now -- I'm not starving myself and gaining weight in the process anymore. I am looking forward to the time that I'm not taking so many meds anymore - besides the expense I am tired of having them rule my life. Speaking of that, I need to call in my meds to pick them up tomorrow....gotta run.

Carole, if they do bloodwork and it's not good, Dr. Atkins said it took about 6 weeks for the cholesterol, triglycerides and the bad stuff to start coming down. So if you have any bloodwork due, you might want to reschedule it.

Don't let the doctors get you down.

I was very surprised. My BIL went to the doctor. Asked his doctor is Atkins would help his diabetes and the doctor said YES!!! So I think he and my sister may start Atkins soon.

Hope you feel better soon, and that your mother's problems are temporary.

Hi again sweetie -- I'm not going to get upset with the drs...I have been on prescription fish oil capsules (4 a day) for a couple years but they were so expensive I only took 2 a day (it's 50.00 a month for my co-pay on just that med) but after they said I had diabetes I decided maybe I needed to take everything the right way and I have ever since. I was diagnosed in either July or Aug of last year -- so I'm hoping the fish oil caps have brought my triglicerides down (they were almost 400) - that's what I was talking about. I know it's too early for the other blood work to show much of anything.

About your B-I-L .... on the diabetes site is says that Atkins is a good diet to follow if you have Type 1 or Type 2. They don't go into specifics and I've only seen 1 mention of it on the site, but it was there - finally! I'm sure my Internist wouldn't have anything good to say about Atkins so I'm not telling him. He's tall, thin and has never been overweight and there are no overweight people in his family....yea for him...anyway, like I said before regardless of what I say he tells me "eat less you'll loose weight"...unfortunately that isn't true but he thinks it is. Oh well!! I know this WOE works for me and I need to loose weight, so this is the way I choose to follow.

When I went to the nutritionist the first time she told me I wasn't eating enough and had put my body into starvation mode so I wasn't loosing I was actually making the system attack itself. She gave me a plan with so much more food than I was use to eating and I spazzed over eating all day making sure I got enough to eat...when I told the internist what she had said (about eating more) he rolled his eyes and told me once again "if you eat less you'll loose weight"....grrrrrrrrr.

I'll loose the weight despite him...LOL!!! How are things in your part of the world?

Don't you love it when health specialists contradict each other?

Over the years I have finally learned to listen to them and if they make sense, follow their instructions. If I think they are off-the-wall, I don't put a lot of stock in their advice. I've seen medical opinion change on the same issues so much that I don't take any of it as gospel.

DH and I are mostly hibernating during the cold weather. We are going to make a Sams run tomorrow and I'll stock up on all kinds of good Atkins approved food.

We can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can take the camper out. Right now the water system is winterized, so we can't use the kitchen or bathroom. The first stretch of 60 degree days we get, we are out of here!

Then I'll have to do real walking instead of riding the stationery bike. The scenery will certainly be more interesting!

                  Re: Another 50+ member

Where do you live that you have winterized your camper for winter? I don't know if we'd have to do that because we haven't been below zero in the 5 years we've lived here in Missouri. Where do you go when you take the camper and go for a weekend?

My stationery bike is in our bedroom so I am facing the bed and the huge window in the room, but I have the blind down to keep the warmth in the room. Our bedroom is to the back of the house, so in the summer it's hot because the sun beats down on the backyard all day. The bike was in the unfinished part of the basement but I rarely went down there so I moved it to the bedroom. At least now I actually ride it!

I am like you - I listen to what the drs say if it sounds fesible but I also come home and research everything!

I just looked at your personal page with pictures, you are so pretty!! I know what you mean about the last straw picture -- but the last picture (week 3) you look really good!!!! Keep up the good work!

                  Have fun

I forgot to say this in the last post -- Sam's has a wonderful pre-made London Broil that I get about every other time we go.....but I always get a Rotisserie Chicken - I love them!!! I had some of the leftover chicken today for lunch...yummie!!

We're in northwest Georgia, but it gets cold here. It's supposed to go down to 13 tonight. Anytime the temperature goes into the 20's, the camper's water system will freeze. It's just a basic little camper... not really worthy to be called an RV.

Thanks for the comments on the pictures. I'm a bit at a loss... not used to compliments! But I surely do appreciate them.

I love Sams' meats! We also usually get a rotisserie chicken, too, because when I get home I don't want to fuss with cooking. And having the chicken ready guarantees I won't get too hungry and be tempted to eat something I shouldn't!

It's been cold here in Missouri -- we're suppose to get up to 45 today but it's 65 in Kansas City today so maybe we'll be warmer tomorrow...LOL - I'm outside St Louis so maybe the warmth KC is getting today will be here tomorrow! I hope so, I'm tired of being cold!!

I don't eat more than a couple ounces of the chicken and never eat the skin -- I've never had any problem with retaining water or gaining weight, so hopefully it's ok.

We've got to keep going Queen, the other option is where we all started from, and I for one, don't want to go back to feeling bloated, miserable and crying all the time! I like feeling like I have power over my choices of what to eat, which gives me power over my weight. Since I started this WOE I haven't cried, I have felt happy and confident. Every pound or inch I loose is a huge win for me. It's one less that I have to loose and one more reason not to cheat but to continue on!

                                Re: Another 50+ member

This has been such a long week -- I'm so happy it's Friday. Mom has been sick with the flu or something since Tuesday - dh has been working 16 - 18 hour days trying to make a deadline (yes he made it - yea) and I've been so worn down. Can't explain it just that I don't have a lot of pep this week. I've even gone in and laid down twice because I was so tired - not like me.

Took mom to get her hearing aids this afternoon (almost had to cancel the appt). She's been telling me how many things are loud since we've been home. I purposely left the TV volume up when we left and when we walked in she told me "that's ridiculous - turn that down"....so I showed her that was how we were listening to TV since she's been here -- she didn't realize it was so loud - most times she still didn't hear it, but I think 47 is louder than most people need the TV. I was afraid dh and I would have our hearing impared by the loudness!!

DH and I went for lunch today - we have only been out once since I've been on this WOE and that was on his birthday. It was nice to have some "alone" time - but as usual we only talked about his work....but that's ok, that is what affords us everything we have.

This is going to be an early evening and I'm planning to sleep in tomorrow morning. I love the weekends, even if I only sleep an extra hour, it's like sleeping till noon use to feel!!

We had turkey breast cutlets for dinner - they were good, talked a little like a pork chop when you put seasoning on it. OK, enough from me...hope everyone has a great weekend!!
